Anyone else watching it? We were 2-0 up and all over them. Now it's 2-3. There is at least one really annoying female in the crowd (Belgian I think) with a megaphone yelling some sort of variation on Brown Girl in the Ring. Now 3-3.
No. It's women's football. It's park standard. What on earth are you doing ? Have you been drinking again ?
As the commentator said at the end - not much had changed . Some good play but a lot of bad defending .
Just seen the goals on SSN. Another two absolutely horrendous defensive howlers leading to England giving away goals. Almost every single match seems to be blighted by fundamental errors. Certainly happens more regularly than should be normal for any sport wanting to promote itself as elite.
That's why I don't watch. You feel less interested in the score when you feel you'd have improved the team by playing yourself. I've nothing against women playing footy, I think it's great. But the lack of ability and quality ruins it as a spectacle for me. Well below non league or England schoolboy football.
The thing is there are some talented 'lady' players showing some excellent individual skills, but the whole spectacle is spoiled by so many laughable basic schoolboy errors you see at under 11 level. ..And I can already see this every fortnight at the Vic
I've just watched Norway v England in the second half and I'm not sure that Millie Bright is a better footballer than I am and I haven't played for nearly 40 years Although I did make a substitute appearance for 'coaches v players' at Gosling in 1995 and back heeled for Mark Moring to score.
We have got this, population of England is 67.5M Female population of Belgium is about 6M ( slightly less probably) In a fist fight it’s 10:1 Plus we have nukes
It’s almost completely unlike watching proper football. Like real football played in treacle, played by people with pony tails, a poor mans mud wrestling
Every time I’ve glimpsed the England women’s team Millie Bright has been stand out dreadful. In the World Cup there was one sequence where keeper passed to Bright and under minimal pressure she did a square pass which bananaed out for a throw in on the opposite side near tree corner flag with the England full back not even in frame.
As women's football becomes a higher profile sport, especially promoted by the BBC, the elements of it which originally made it attractive and refreshing are inevitably being eroded. These included the cheery, bordering on amateur, attitude and enthusiasm of the players, their respect for the authority of the referee, respect for their opponents and honesty on the pitch. The recent World Cup showed these traits are not what they once were and behaviour and attitude is starting to mirror the men's game. Another effect of this is the reaction of spectators and fans to things like defensive mistakes, which will now be seen as so important that individuals are roundly criticised for not being good enough and being the equivalent of only 'Championship level' as our own Watford defenders are regularly.
Not one female footballer would cut it in the championship. It's equivalent to roughly the 5th tier of Men's football. Bearing in mind the %of girls vs boys that play football from an early age and the resources in developing talent, even in the handful of countries giving serious consideration to the ladies' game, it's unsurprising. The women playing for England are the best of thousands. The men are the best of millions. It follows that the standard will be lower.
Yes that's right and that's why it's wrong for the BBC to cover the top of the women's game alongside the top of the men's game (although I understand why they do it).
More top quality stuff in an England international: https://twitter.com/BBCSport/status/1181654363816648705 This time England the beneficiaries.
Plenty of talk in the media yesterday at how women should be getting equal pay to the men. It has started to happen in Aussie, and there is a big legal challenge in the USA. Can't see must justification myself. Surely it depends on the money the game attracts, and the quality of the football played. But would be interested to hear from the women on here?
