First to admit this is a tenuous comparison.....but was Danny Drinkwater's move from Leicester to Chelsea a step-up? Maybe Deeney didn't move to Leicester when they were offering mega bucks because that wouldn't have been a step up for him. I think the size of the club (which again I agree with La_Tempesta is something only fans care or talk about) bears little to no relationship to what in the mind of the player is a step up.

Yes I think so. Playing for Chelsea and you are in Europe every season. Not so at Leicester.

Different question: As a player do you prefer to play every game for Leicester on 60k per week or bit part player at Chelsea on 100k? At 60k per week (3m per year are you at the point where the extra doesn't factor in?

    Might be worth a look.

Everton 3 games only 1 goal, and let's honest, if you only score once against our defence that's like scoring no goals against anyone else.

Hopefully the bad results will stack up quickly for snaky.

Plenty wanting Silva out already...…..wonderful stuff.

They are putting the knife into Richarlison as well, saying he's just awful, burnt out and massively overrated.

V frustrating last night. Missed a couple of sitters, hit the post and after starting really well, we played pretty poorly after a Gomes lapse in concentration allowed Villa enough space to score their opener.

Plus the new signing, Gbamin, has suffered a "significant" injury and presumably won't be available for some time, meaning we are going to be seeing a lot more of Morgan "I surrender" Schneiderlin

All in all, a pretty poor evening

What was up with Gomes? He’s almost always really impressed me, but last night it looked like he’d been Space Jammed, or his feet had been swapped over. Comically bad.

I really don't know. Very unlike him. He suffered an injury against Palace and had to come off in the first half. But he was fit enough to play last weekend against Watford and did ok.

Was like watching a different player last night. Really, really bad. Still, unlike one or two others (step forward Messrs Walcott and Schneiderlin) at least that display last night was unusual for him.

Worrying thing now, I think, is that there's a fairly high level of expectation this season. Last season there was an understanding that Silva had to be cut some slack because of the mess that Walsh/Koeman/Allardyce had left us with and that it would take time to sort out.

This season we're at the point where there's vulnerability in the top 6 and there's going to be less patience when we slip up in games we should be winning. Should make for amusing viewing for you guys anyway.

The consolation for you, Toffee, is that if Silva leaves and you replace him with a likeable manager, we'll stop being nasty about your team

Mention of Walcott reminds us of the many English talents that ultimately failed to live up to their early promise. It’s my belief that, in his case, he should have stood up to Wenger years ago and asked for a transfer. Whether he would have made it as a striker who knows, but Wenger clearly wanted to keep him as an impact substitute winger and he acquiesced. A move to somewhere like Everton six years earlier might have been the making of him.

    Odd career.

Huge pressure on him as a kid &, as you say, he seemed to settle for the money.

When he’s a lad, fat & bald, he may regret it.

He’s really good. Do you think you’ll be able to keep hold of him if he has another good year? He should probably be playing Champions League football, and given how competitive it is at the top, it’s hard to see Everton providing that.

Presumably they'll be having a similar laugh looking at the meltdown on here after every league game so far?

Anyway, he’s good enough for my FF team.

Thought we were unlucky yesterday in all honesty. We deserved to lose because we conceded three poor goals, two of which were purely individual errors, but thought we were the better side overall.

Having said that, as previously mentioned here, the tolerance threshold is going to be fairly low this season. Whenever we drop points to a team outside last seasons top 7, patience will be in very short supply. I haven't bothered to visit any of the Everton forums since yesterday as I can't be bothered with the hysteria
