Is Javi’s job safe?

He did this last Season when we went on a losing streak after that 4 game winning run by changing to 4-2-3-1 with Success leading the line, Pereyra LW, Deulofeu behind Success and Deulofeu RW. We beat Wolves away and lost narrowly in the Cup to Spurs. He does seem to change it, but he seems to view as a temporary stabilising measure until he feels we can go back to 4-2-2-2.

Masina was also dopey as anything in some of the games he played. Positionally awful, completely unaware of where the runners were on his side, running into blind alleys when he had the ball and launching himself into lunging tackles that resulted in yellows. But you're right, he does head the ball well.

And he did have one really good game at towards the end of the season.

    Domenico Tedesco.

Born in Italy (ticks that box) but German heritage and still only 33. Has fancy degrees in psychology and management just like Potter.

Was manager at Schalke and took them to a second place finish in his first season - no small achievement. Was worse in his second season and ended up getting fired after losing 0-7 to Man City in the CL. Was dogged all that year by accusations that he was prioritising the Champions League which he didn’t refute after qualifying for the knockout phases.

Still highly regarded and his style at Schalke was widely praised. Can also speak English.

I've been less than impressed by Gracia's use of subs - he never seems able to turn a bsd start around.

if mazzari had last year's squad and lack of injuries we'd be in europe now.

The I'm a very threatening looking man Joker, cat-walk model Quique, let's 'ave a fag 'round the back of the bike-sheds Walter, I've got an enormous watch Snakebite Silva and now "grotesque goblin" Gracia.

Maybe we all have to simply accept the cyclical nature of football and the role of the head coach in it. Owners' fingers are always trigger-happy, especially ours perhaps. So a continued bad run won't be accepted for too long. Snakebite got until January (enforced) before getting his jotters and casting off his old skin before getting the new one he preferred. But we were still mid-table then (albeit in free-fall) after an excellent start. I doubt that Javi will get that long if we're in/near the relegation three after ten matches. So he now needs to show his mettle and turn it around if he's capable.

The Joker was feted for his substitutions but flopped in the PL with Fulham after again being excellent with them in the Championship. So maybe it was the correct decision to let him go although not many of us thought so at the time. Both Quique and Walter appeared to 'give up' at the end of their seasons. Silva had his head turned. Javi may now be entering his first really bad run.

As is said (mostly in Scotland), what goes around comes around.

Strong suggestion. Exactly the type of coach we should be interested in when the time comes that we move on from Javi.

Losing 0-7 to Man City? He's worse than Javi then.

I'd want Benitez with Mourinho as his translator.

But no wonder he did well during that period if he had two Deulofeus. Maybe he should try it again?

Good news: if anyone wants to finally create a definitive list of Moog's alts, they're all in this thread; they can be identified by posts suggesting that we should start playing Deeney at centre back.

It should be noted, Domenico Tedesco at Schalke, played functional, defensive football, whilst their second placed finish was secured with the lowest ever runners-up points total. I'd rather RB Leipzig's former coach, and now returned to Sporting Director, Ralf Rangnick, albeit, it would probably be very difficult to prise him away from the franchise club.

    Hughes on the right.

It would be nice to have 2 Deulofeu's, but Sarr is pretty much that.

Good points. Success looked alright at Wolves. Did he play alone against Spurs? My pickled brain can't remember.

Was one of the best players on the pitch that night against Spurs, if not the best.

Returned to the bench for the following game though. I’m no fan of Success but he looked decent at the beginning of last season and it’s hard not to think that Gracia having his favourites didn’t help his cause.

2nd favourite to be next manager gone. A few more bad results and I think Gino won’t be shy of pulling the trigger.

He looked vaguely competent for a handful of games. I wouldn't say much more than that. And being in the side for the league cup but then not for the next league game doesn't explain why from then onwards his best attribute was falling over.

Sol Campbell available - could be Player/Head Coach - would be cheap, remembers the old Premier League, knows the way to London Colney, supports BREXIT.

Next three games are probably pretty important for Gracia, we have City Spurs Arsenal and Wolves after that and if we play like we did against Brighton we won't be picking up points there.

Yeah. I’d say if he doesn’t have 5 or 6 points on the board by the international break he may be toast after the next run of fixtures. Brighton was a massive one for him to lose and to lose it so spinelessly makes the impact worse.

I suspect the Pozzos constantly look out for potential replacements for their managers. Seems to be their style. If we lose today they may step up their search in order to act if we also lose to West Ham. I honestly do not see them holding on much further than that.

What little I've seen of Sarr (YouTube) I think he reminds me more of Richarlison: Loads of pace, finishing and crossing both variable, but a defence would be stupid to ignore him: He has skills which do sometimes show out.

They'll certainly be keeping their eye open. That is indeed their way and why our head coach changes mostly appear to be so seamless compared to many other clubs. They've always got the next guy lined up in advance.

But acting after just three matches, whatever our next two results, will be too soon even for them.

I would normally agree - but looking at the fixtures that follow they might feel the need to act before we are firmly rooted to the bottom - when attracting a new manager becomes more difficult still.

  34. If Gino or Scott don't pull the trigger we're going down with this clown in charge.

7 straight losses in competitive football.

No sign of wanting to play anything other than his 4222, despite it clearly not suiting our full backs (who are exposed), centre backs (who are exposed), and centre midfielders (who are overloaded).

No sign of wanting to select anyone other than his favourite 11.

No sign that Deeney is anything other than untouchable despite being in horrendous form.

The opportunity in pre season to develop style and tactics, a plan B even, totally wasted.

It reminds me of the Bassett season. A stupid **** in charge who is a one trick pony.

The brave decision is to fire him now because he is so limited. Suspect they will give him till international break “2” though. To a certain extent though Pozzo sacking Gracia is just the owner finding a scapegoat for his own utter failings with the defence.
