Did anyone else feel strangely flat for Saturday? Normally i'd be buzzing for the season to start, but Saturday just felt like any other day, even before the shitshow started.

One other thing that really wound me up was the arrogance of our team, fans and seemingly from everyone at the club. It reminded me of when we were in our first season in the league and we'd go and bloody the nose of an established PL team and their fans would all say things like 'we should be beating teams like Watford'. We've turned into that team/fanbase, and it's a bit embarrassing IMO.

We got 0 points in the 1880/81 season and you didn't hear our fans moaning back then. They were made of sterner stuff.

Hard to get excited for preseason games.

Things will be different next week when the real action kicks off

For me it's because the world record cup final defeat still makes me burn with shame. But I dont get the feeling that the club or the players feel the same. In fact, I dont get the feeling they give a single chit about the manner of the defeat.

And that's hard to deal with.

I wasn't particularly looking forward to it. No exciting new signings on show and apart from Dawson, the same team that ended the season so badly last time around.

I felt I had to force myself to get excited. I didn't think Brighton would thump us, but I was concerned we'd struggle and labour to a narrow win or draw. I thought it would be a dour game, but hoping I'd be proved wrong. I was proved wrong, but in an even worse way than I ever expected.

I am not a fan of constant droning a la crystal palace HF as becomes just irritating background noise. That said crowd as a whole very quiet.

What was disappointing was the ease with which bhafc scored their second and third.
Attitude a theme. As a team players don't seem to put their bodies on the line, chase down or try and win their individual battles. No real show of concern when go a goal down, no seeming pride in keeping a clean sheet and no direction or leadership from the captain.
Worrying run of difficult games coming up... Depressing

Well I'm still cross at the result but at least I didn't let it ruin my weekend.

Channelled my inner FM to think how we could best utilise our players, I would personally like to see this lineup at some point in the near future once everyone is bedded in:

Have to agree with this. No real effort to stop the cross or close the man down for the second goal. Infact the cross it'self wasn't very good. Terrible marking and even worse keeping. Should have never been beaten at his near post.
Dunk should have been closed down quicker but lets not get away from the quality of that ball and the finish. That was class. Watch how lazy some of your players were when they tried to get back. Pascal Gross only beats 36 year old Murray for pace and he went passed one of your players with ease.
The blame for this defeat should really lay at your managers feet. On that showing and especially your lack of quality depth in defense should ring alarm bells. I certainly believe you will be in the mix down the bottom.

Yep. Tactics horribly wrong. Managers will make mistakes as much as players do. Hopefully he'll learn from it.

That’s got to be one of our worst performances since returning to the Premier League, and after 10-15 minutes it was clear as a day what was going to happen.

We started alright, with a little bit of early pressure and Deeney doing his whole ‘I’m going to puff my chest out and jump for a header about 5 seconds too early and try nicking a foul’ routine a few times to no avail (I’m a Deeney fan btw), but the moment Brighton scored - we were never getting back into it.

Our squad isn’t good enough. I said it after the cup final and I’ll say it again - there are at least 3 or 4 players who we simply cannot rely on to give you anything whatsoever and clearly don’t give a t**s about the club or the fans.

Craig Dawson couldn’t have had a worse debut if he tried. Useless. Him and Cathcart couldn’t trap a bag of cement between the pair of them - side note - Cathcart hasn’t been good enough for at least two years.

I can’t say a single positive thing about anyone in yellow on Saturday. We’re in big, big trouble if that’s how we’re going to play. Everton will be licking their lips at the prospect of us turning up at Goodison this weekend.

I think that’s what a record equalling cup final humiliation, with about 30,000 of your peers still gallantly waving flags around at 0-6 for some unknown reason, does to you.

A lot of the times Joker had to make early changes, were down to his poor initial selections, something that even us peasants could have and did predict, on seeing said starting eleven. Fair play, he did realise those errors and attempt to correct it, but a lot of his 'successes' were down to individual excellence, as much as any perceived tactical genius.

Brighton won’t finish near the relegation zone. This is essentially a Southampton with Adkins vs Southampton with Pochettino situation, in terms of difference in quality.

From their team, I think Murray (because Deeney is ****), Trossard, Bissouma, Dunk, Duffy, Montoya and Maupay would improve us and March, Ryan, Izquierdo and Propper are good squad players. I’d probably take Gross over Hughes too if we persisted with this formation, whilst I think Andone will surprise a few this season.

They have a good side and should be comfortably clear of the relegation pack.

Come on "Welbz", if you are going to be a regular poster, you need to observe our grammatical rules.

Never end a sentence with a preposition. Remember to use question marks where needed, even if the statement is rhetorical.

"Into what have I got(ten) myself?"

Spot on. And why would the team have any respect for us when we dont respect ourselves?

How many of them prostrated themselves in front of us at the end of the match? How many even offered a deep and sincere apology? None of them. Why should they? We'd applaud if they walked up to us, lowered their slacks and emptied their bowels all over our faces, and they know it.

Every one of those players went in to that match just happy to have reached the final and had no expectation to win whatsoever. And that includes the grotesque goblin on the sidelines. Deliberately playing a weakened team in only the second final in our history!

And they expect us to clap and cheer these sacks of shyt!

Let's just hope this brighton result is a wake up call, but I cant see it. Gutless wonders arent known for their introspection.

We had a side with an average age of almost 30 so no wonder we looked slow and sluggish!
