Holebas playing today as if the decision to try and sign a left-back on deadline day was well and truly vindicated! Played like the Holebas of 2 years ago.

Gracia seens stuborn to change it. 4-3-3 would suite us far better. Deeney needs a boot up his @rse. Where were his Cajones today?

  5. If you spend the game continually hoofing the ball to the other side of course they are bound to come back at you and score.

    Possession is a great defense.

Shocking performance that!!!!! I genuinely don't even know where to start we were poor all over the pitch. I thought we looked good defensively on paper going into this, maybe Cathcart and Dawson need more game time together because the goals that we conceded were soft. We had nothing up front all game and the passing was atrocious I lost count at the amount of times we passed straight to a BHA player. We looked flat footed and half yard slower than Brighton.

Had zero creativity and looked narrow hopefully once Pereyra and Deulofeu are 100% match fit and Sarr starts it solves this problem.

Started as we finished last season, completely and utterly *****. Same problems exist unfortunately, no width, creativity or pace.

They should all be ashamed of themselves and reimburse the fans.

Who the **** loses to Brighton 3-0 at home.

It's the same old story though. It is beyond bizarre how we treat Deeney like he is some sort of master target man, when the reality is that it's about as stupid as a tactic as we could possibly choose to deploy. Dominated over and over and over again by anyone his size or bigger, which is 90% of centre backs.

What a horrible start to the season. In recent years it has been our fast start that has helped us avoid trouble later.

We overate javi and his ****** 4-4-2 way too much. Anyone with half an interest in the opposition could tell you before kick off Brighton had been playing a solid 3-4-3 all summer. 4-4-2 would literally never break through the lines and our two front men would be isolated as ****. Surprise surprise we were ******* ****.

Also - Deeney is nowhere near the level required. Brighton had four strikers on the pitch today I’d consider far superior to him.

Pathetic really. Brighton defended well and it was always going to be a tight game, but the goals we gave away were pretty terrible and carried on from the end of last year. The Brighton defence had Gray and Deeney in their pockets all afternoon

That's what I mean. Truly what goes through his head having us repeat that utterly pointless s**t game after game after game as it fails over and over?

We'd have as much luck playing Hughes up top and hoofing at him. Although I better not say that, it'll be Javi's next way of shoehorning him into the side.

I'd like to add that Foster for the 2nd and 3rd did himself no favours. One near post finish from Holebas' initial misjudgment in the air followed by him hesitating to sweep the ball and then getting rounded. Would like Bachmann to start in the cup with a view of replacing him as he has had a poor run of form since Arsenal last Season.

Listened on 3CR and resigned myself to defeat early second half.
    Glad I wasn’t there.
But never judge until 10 games is my philosophy.

This embarrassment could be the best thing to happen to us imo - all the talk about a mid/top table finish is leading to complacency.

    We’ll focus and bounce back.
The players will be angry with themselves.
Javi must reflect and know he must make changes.
I predict we’ll be well above Brighton after 10 games.
    All will be fine.
    Too early to panic.

Yes that was a bit embarrassing today and does not bode well for the season .

We struggled to break Brighton down , which is not unexpected as they are solid defensively and got numbers behind the bell , but our defending was woeful and we seem so exposed for pace st the back .this did seem like an end of last season type performance . Let’s face it we barely conceded 3 goals to anyone last season especially outside the top 6.

Not an inspiring start from Dawson, he gave it away a few times and looked hesitant at times .

I didn’t understand the hoofing it up tactic as Brighton are very dominant in the air . We did look a bit better in the 2nd half just before their 2nd goal when we tried to pass it around a bit more

I’m trying not to read too much into one result though . I thought Doucoure was poor and his passing was way off and he will certainly improve.
Also Pereyra to get back to match fitness.

On chances it was a fairly even match and obviously we were a little unlucky with the first . I didn’t think Brighton looked that great either . They were fairly solid and took their chances , but that’s more worrying really, hat we lost 3-0 and they are at best an average side !

I’m trying to remain upbeat at least until we’ve played a few matches

This. Honestly, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle next and then a month of City and Wolves away with Arsenal in the middle. We could end up in big ******* trouble the slide we're on.

... VAR penalty is a bit irrelevant after that display and scoreline ... the issue about Deeney is not just his performance, it's also his leadership. It doesn't look like he's leading that all members of this team respect or feel inspired by him. The way we ambled out for the second half summed up the casual approach ... I really hope this is a wake up call ...

Imagine any of our strike force in the position that Maupay was in for their third. (We have to first imagine any of our centre backs playing a progressive pass on the ground).

Deeney - Gets caught my CB's despite 30 yard advantage, hits at keeper - somehow throws a suspect looking elbow in process

Gray - way too much time to think for Andre, scuffs shot out for thrown in

Geri - Goes around the keeper beautifully, attempts to go back and beat the cb again, gets tackled

Welbeck - Does his ACL running onto pass

    Sarr - Tired from Afcon

Pereyra - tucks it away beautifully tbf

If Gray scores it’s a different game, no excuse for that.

Holebas with two awful headed clearances too, just lazy?

Deeney is SO washed it’s incredible. Brighton buy one of the best strikers from the league below, lo and behold he scores on his debut. Deeney is just so far removed from being even a mild goal threat anymore, it’s painful.

The worst thing about today was actually the fact we were outmuscled, out fought, out thought and slower than Brighton too. Shocking.

Also, it’s obvious to the whole world but WILL HUGHES IS NOT A ******* RIGHT WINGER!!!!!!!
