If they both fielded ineligible players, they could both be heading down after tomorrow.

Given the degree of confusion over the last couple of days at both clubs, it is very possible.

    Yes, we are.

He was a free transfer and, if rumours are true, has most of his wage locked behind appearances (i.e. if he's a sicknote he barely costs us anything).

Welbeck isn't Messi and was massively overrated by the media when he was at Man Utd (like every one of their players), but he's more than fine at Premier League level. You don't get almost 200 appearances for Man Utd/Arsenal and get a return of 16 goals in 42 England caps by being useless.

...And, to reiterate, he was free.

    Yes, but it's Danny Welbeck

Ah, so you don't actually have a point then.

Righto. Thanks for clearing that up!

"But for you posting here I wouldn't spare a thought for Everton except for 90 minutes twice a season. You're irrelevant. Sorry."

I thought that leaving it there might be best, but I can't resist the opportunity to point out the irony of this statement in a thread called "Everton Watch" on a Watford forum.

To borrow a bit of modern vernacular, we are living rent-free in your heads.

Anyway, best of luck this weekend

My point being that no club who deliberately signed Danny Welbeck should ever being mocking signings of another club. Possibly ever again.

  8. Coming from an Everton fan this is just a bizarre statement to make

    And why is that, exactly?

  10. Did I start the thread? Moron.

But you're posting in it. Which makes your statement about only thinking about us twice a year demonstrably untrue. As I said, rent free.

  12. Not only a moron but also can't read a sentence properly.

I’ve quite liked ToffeeBlue since he joined the forum and he is certainly a class above that other Everton pillock who turned up earlier in the week. Not quite sure why he’s getting so much stick.
This thread is now fairly embarrassing. Why do we have Everton watch? Silva is history now, still a ****** but now history.

However you look it, a move to Everton is a step up. The only question is whether the player concerned should hold tight and wait to make the step up directly to a champs league team. Is Doucs good enough to play for a top 4 side and if so would be get there quicker by going via Everton.

  15. You're confusing fans view of big-ness (whatever that is) with a players motivation for selecting a club.

Step up can't relate to a fans view. Fans don't step up to bigger clubs through their life! Players step up based on opportunities that meet their motivation.

Motivation might be money. Might be opportunity for success. Might be the drive for mastery. etc. I'm pretty sure it's not fans notional idea of big-ness.

I’ve really no idea what you are talking about. I’m not confusing anything. Everton are a much bigger club than us. A step up. Not as big a step up as a top 4 side. Nothing to do with “fans perception”. I think you are getting confused after having rings round you by an Everton fan on a WFC forum.

  17. What has being a 'bigger club' got to do with being a step up for a player.

    Explain that one to me.

We're one of the 'smallest' clubs in the league. If it were simply down to 'big-ness' then Palace, for example would be a step up for our squad. Is it?

Higher profile, more chance of Europe, more chance of being picked for international duty, less chance of relegation, better quality team mates and coach (usually), personal prestige, more money, that sort of thing

Anyway, that's enough from me. Season starts tomorrow and thats more than enough to be concerning myself with. Sorry if I antagonized anyone this evening.

I'd offer to buy you a pint next weekend if any of you are making the trip up here, but unfortunately (for the 2nd time in the last few years) the game clashes with a holiday, so I'll instead be watching in a bar in Greece.

Of course, if any of you are in Zakynthos next weekend, I'll happily nurse a Mythos alongside you and we can take turns mocking Iwobi and Welbeck.

  20. So despite Everton not having more chance of Europe than us last season, not having less chance of relegation, not having better team mates, not having a better coach.... you think Everton are in your words 'a much bigger club than us and a step up?' Aren't you contradicting yourself?

Yep a step up and a much bigger club. Taking my yellow tinted glasses off, the fact that we have finished above them once in our existence and their gates and finances are way over ours, their prospects over the next 3 years are way above ours with serious chance of breaking into the top 6. You can see that surely ?

I think the TV money we all get nowadays is a bit of a leveller. You really couldn't call who could get 6 or 7th. But ultimately it's all about perception. We are probably, if we were all being honest, perceived a bigger club.

What’s wrong with Lytham St Annes?

  26. I don't disagree Everton are a bigger club than us. So are Palace, Aston Villa, Southampton....

Players aren't universally motivated to move because of the idea of a bigger club.

Personal motivation is a way more complex subject than that.

One players motivation for choosing a club will be different to another.

If motivation is different then what a player considers a step up must also be different.

Therefore it can be argued Everton is a step up over Watford for some things, and Watford is a step up over Everton for other things.

The proximity to Blackpool for a start. Aren't they into swapping car keys round there?

Maybe you’re being overly influenced by their strong showing in the Edwardian age.

The gap has been closing ever since.

Too close to Blackpool, and I usually feel the need for a tetanus jab whenever I'm in relatively close proximity to that place.

    I’ve heard something about that.

Down here, it’s alfalfa grass by the drive as the sign. But maybe the Lancs climate doesn’t encourage that.

    There’s Southport.

Or the glories of Prestatyn & Rhyl.

My father came from Freckleton, amazing to relate.

Blackpool was Las Vegas/the city of the plain to these simple farming folk.

Always preferred the thought of Blackpool myself although some of the stories about the fetid squalor of that place do make you think twice.

The step up is due to a much bigger package and better prospects over the next 3-5 years. Simple really. We are a great club but I don’t think there is any way in which we can argue to be a step up from everton !

Every scouser worth their salt spent their childhoods being dragged to Rhyl and Prestatyn during the summer months for a "run out". Most of us still shudder at the memory.

Southport - our Tory-voting cousins. Like the sister you had who married above herself and both of you are now a little ashamed of the other.
