Deal sheet is supposed to only be submitted when the fee is agreed. So presumably if it was submitted when £1m-£2m away, one club or the other would be losing out.

    Fair point.

Be interesting to see what reaction we get out of Holebas now in the next few months. Rose would definitely have taken his spot in the team.

A sign that he’s on borrowed time now?

Given his age, I think that Holebas really only has one more year left as first choice.

I'm more interested to see Masina's reaction. He must know how close he came to being out the door.

That was the one, so still 4 possibles.

SSN news just said we'll have to wait and see if Rose is one of the deal sheets.

I assume Masina would have been on his way back to Italy had this happened as well.

Seems we may have 2 fairly disgruntled LB’s to deal with in the short term.

Still hopeful a deal for Rose could be resurrected in January or next Summer personally.

He won’t be. I think Leventhal would likely have said by now and Rose would have stayed at the training ground.

Southampton are buying a defender from Germany so that’s one of them...
Luiz to Arsenal still not announced...could be another?
Drinkwater, Lo Celso, Sessegnon all announced after 5pm...
    Iwobi is one of them...
Besic to Sheff Utd as well apparently...

Let’s face it, a deal between Levy and Gino needed far more than the last hour to negotiate!

Didn’t he face a similar situation at Roma when Ashley Cole joined, but played well and kept his place?

    Not at all.

Josie is officially King of the Manor.

Gino tried to take him down but epic fail.

Expecting his ghastly, misshapen clothes to be in the shop come Saturday.

Jose is one tough mu****er. Filling shelves to pay for his kid in early 20s.

None of the soft as mince @rsenal youth about him.

When you get your chance, you take it.

When you get your chance again, you take it again.

Huge result that we avoided the whiney Yorkie.

Shame we didn’t get this one over the line. I think he’d have been an outstanding signing for a club like us. If reports of Rose at the training ground are true, it’s also a real sign of our pull as a club that he was interested in joining us.

He’s an established England international who started a Champions League final at the end of last season. If that’s not a signal of ambition from the club, I don’t know what is.

It’s also positive to see that the club we’re looking to improve a clear weakness in the squad. I wonder if we’d be in for him again come January?

If he doesn't f off to Europe hopefully he'll be able to join in January or next summer.

Holebas is 35, only a tiny fraction of outfield players are still playing at an elite level at that age. I don’t really see how he can be annoyed that we’re rather sensibly looking for a replacement.

FWIW I played football for the first time in a long while at the age of 37 yesterday and I’m completely and utterly ****ed today.

I think Masina will be the player that felt most aggrieved, or worried. He's got to step up his game.

Totally agree. The last two days of the transfer window were a real eye opener for the calibre of player we are looking at. £30m on a winger, with Welbeck and almost Rose signing. These are next level players without doubt.

Having said that, I've always felt that Rose was a bit overrated and one of the poorer players for England/Spurs. He's 29 now, so the £14m bid we made for him was more than fair, as there would have been no resale value. That's quite a lot of cash for us to virtually write-off, on top of the £30m slashed out on Sarr.

Clearly the club know what they're doing, but that did surprise me quite a lot.

Picking up on what you said that we might be back in for him. Well there's nothing stopping Udinese negotiating to sign him in January and transfer him to us next summer for free. He's on his last year of contract, so Levy may have dropped the ball on this one. Spurs don't seem to want him anymore, so now risk losing him for nothing, unless a European club come in for him before 2nd Sept.

This is where we have a bit of an advantage. We could use Udinese to sign players on our behalf from now until the end of the transfer window in Europe. Man City can do the same sort of thing with Girona, and did with the signing of Porro.

I like the last paragraph HB1, however WFC would not be able to use any player signed until at least the January window, but Udinese would benefit of course at least until til then, so it would be a win win for the Pozzo's.

Having said that it could well give WFC the opportunity to pick up a player or two at a better price than we would be likely to be able to in the January window as prices are often over inflated in that window, so overall this is a possible good idea me thinks

He was on loan to them from a January until the end of the season and made a grand total of 3 appearances, one of those few forgettable players for us, unbelievably made 7 appearances. Still at Derby!

Although times are very different, this is analogous to the first GT period. After a few seasons in the old 1st Division we started signing players from the likes of Spurs and Everton and it felt like we had really 'arrived' and belonged at the top level.

In his press conference, Pochettino said Danny Rose was a ‘very important of his plans now’ and is no longer available this summer.

Sounds like he won’t be going elsewhere before the European window shuts. I suspect that a club like Spurs who are rarely active in the January window won’t let him leave in January either now. It could happen I guess but I think it we hope to still get him, we have to hope Spurs play him sparingly and our move this summer stands us in good stead in 12 months time - and that we obviously continue our upward curve as a club in the meantime.

Hill was GT's last signing, and wasn't particularly great. Rostron played his last game for us in 1989.

He did. That’s what effectively killed his playing career. Signing him at the time was seen as a bit of a coup and continuing the move to becoming a passing side. A skilful attacking midfield goal scorer who was in much demand when we signed him.

I would agree that Ricky Hill wasn't great, but he was good, and I loved watching him bound down the wing leaving defenders in his wake. He excited the crowd, he was positive and increased expectation - even though he might end up flat on his face. :D
