Tony Coton’s finest hour: the 0-0 in the FA Cup 6th round at Anfield in ‘86.

I don't think that was the approach ?
The individual skill levels are much higher now than back then where running and chasing the game was more effective at narrowing the gap in class.
GT would have picked a harder-working 11 and sat back and tried to break quickly. Gomes wouldn't have played ! The closing down would have been better. We'd have lost by 3 or 4 which is what should have happened this year had we scored that early chance or received the penalty or had Gracia not "gone for it" for the last 25 or so minutes and played 3 upfront.

Yeah, up until the first goal and then at 5-0. Rest of the time - silence with the odd intermittent sound of someone throwing up a £7 hot dog mixed with Budweiser.

I took that bud/dog sick leftover home as a souvenir. Best souvenir in the world, so proud.

But we did lose 5-0 to Wimbledon...

I've had a couple of months off football, and pretty much forgotten this even happened.

Everyone over it or are we still the embarrassment of the football world?

    The reminders start on Sunday.

'Liverpool are here because Man City ****ed Watford in front of billions.

Watford are aiming to replicate their run of last season by signing a Championship defender and some other guy who's had as much first team football as their mascot, Harry.

They did win the hearts of a few people for 30 seconds with a defiant flag waving when losing 5-0.'

I finally made myself watch the cup final last week - I guess I wanted closure! And to relive some of the build up which was the best part of an otherwise rubbish day.

On reflection, we gave it a go and generally were doing OK until we conceded. Even at 2-0 we were still in it but the third killed us and we collapsed. City were on another level and would have torn most teams apart once the pressure was off them.

I'm not sure we ever really had a chance, but my feeling is we didn't help ourselves by playing Gomes instead of Foster, and perhaps once the game was gone we should have shut up shop instead of leaving ourselves so open.

I still think back fondly to when the 4th, 5th and 6th goals went in and feel immense pride.

I hope you didn't see them or that's clear implication you weren't flag waving...

Interesting point re Gomes. This should have been debated further.
We were basically ok for the first 25% of the match and then had no chance chasing the game once behind. The attacking subs at 2-0 down caused us to get the drubbing we received. In a league game we'd have quietly settled for a 2-0 or 3-0 defeat, or at least tried to. Can't do that in a cup final.

We could have shut down and lost 3-0 or hoped for that probably would have still been 4 or 5 though.

Giving it a go with 3 strikers, was a huge risk but was the only real chance

I am hoping that later today L***n will be the embarrassment of the Championship when they lose 6-0 at home to Middlesbrough.

As long as they wave their little flags at 5-0, they will be the real winners.

I suspect they will beat Boro given they're not the force they were and have a new novice emotional appt as manager, like the outcome when Pearce rejoined NF as manager.

Like a turd that wont flush I suspect you are right. They will probably do well and be near the play off places at some point this season

To this day I still haven't seen the 6th goal. As soon as the flags started going, I knew that was time to leave.
