Thanks for this post. Until today I didn't know RS played at San Sebastián. Was there 3 weeks ago. "Football introduced to San Sebastián in the early 1900s by students and workers returning from Britain. In 1904, they formed the San Sebastian Recreation Club and in 1905 the club competed in the Copa del Rey. In May 1905, the San Sebastian Football Club was formed as a separate branch of the club. In 1909, it applied to enter the Copa del Rey but complications over registration permits saw them compete as Club Ciclista de San Sebastián. This team defeated Club Español de Madrid 3–1 in the final. Out of the confusion, the Sociedad de Futbol was formed on 7 September 1909. In 1910, Spanish clubs played in two rival cup competitions and Sociedad de Futbol entered the Copa UECF as Vasconia de San Sebastián. In the same year, King Alfonso XIII – who used San Sebastián as his summer capital – gave the club his patronage, where it subsequently became known as Real Sociedad de Fútbol." Anyone can edit Wiki.
Always an interesting topic of discussion for grammarians. Team is singular but reference to a team is usually a reference to the players in the team. "Watford was humiliated 6-0" doesn't sound right "Watford were humiliated 6-0" sounds right, gramatically and sadly factually. "Team Watford was humiliated 6-0" sounds right, but a bit American.
Yanks & Oz always go singular based, I believe, on their concept of the team being paramount. Individualistic Brits tend to see the player as the prime unit. To an Australian audience, Fawlty's reply would have been unremarkable especially, as knowledgeable cricket observers, they would realise that in the mid 70s Hants boasted Richards B, Greenidge & Roberts in their team. 'Hampshire Wins' would have had a 'Dog Bites Man' air to it. Btw, a rather macabre example sentence. I recommend another trip to Asturias to refresh the system.
We were more Cantabria and PAIS Vasco but Asturias would complete the set and is better than M Keynes... PS remember that time when the sales VP with the "funny name" meant that reality and WFC Forums almost meshed ? Well he's just checked out my LinkedIn profile ....
I bumped into him at an industry convention a couple of months ago, 6 months after having 'parted company'. Almost literally bumped into, as I took a brisk left hander into the foyer. Luckily, it is easy to remember such a distinctive name. I was 'Roberting' him before he knew what had struck him (ie me) & was able to make a sharp exit.
Please stop resurrecting a recurring nightmare, it’s affecting my health. We’re moving on next season from the depths of big humiliations to the shallows of mere embarrassments. Onwards and upwards.
Hants are/is looking a bit mid table after a promising start. Of course, counties don’t really play cricket except in April & September these days.
Dolphins, Titans & Knights. The latter could be quite strong. Sir Alistair with Ambrose, Richards, Richardson, Roberts, Hadlee, Botham & Jagger. Sir Geoffrey to carry the drinks.
The club site has announced tickets for the friendly v Real Sociedad (one week before the Brighton game) are on sale in the Rookery only 'due to ongoing building works inside the stadium'. My wife's hairdresser is rarely wrong
We lose to Brighton on the opening day of the season and the struggle is on to avoid relegation. Favourites to go down: Brighton Newcastle Aston Villa Sheffield United Norwich Watford Southampton
I hate predicting the final 3 as I'm generally wrong each season. Bookies have as 10th favourites for it and it's their job to get it right. Then again they ballsed up and lost out on Leicester so they have been know to be wrong. Still a lot of transfer activity to go but for what it's worth I reckon sheff utd, Newcastle and maybe palace if zaha goes.
I’ve got my train tickets booked for Brighton , looking forward to it ! I assume I can use my season ticket to get entry ?
Due to a typo all our home games will be played in Waterford, Ireland this season. The marketing department has decided to change the club's name to 'The Waterford Horn Men' and have launched a global competition to choose our formation and line up for the opening game of the season. In a press release the marketing department stated that 'existing Watford fans are welcome in Ireland but we are hoping that the majority of fans in the stadium will be Indonesian due to its superior market size compared to Watford. We would like to thank the people of Watford especially Lord Mayor Bassini for their contribution to the club over the last 138 years but we do feel its time to expand our brand by paying Bangladeshi teenagers 12p an hour to pretend to be new Watford fans on social media'.
Says a lot if a change of venue means we lose against big old Brighton instead of winning. Might as well just give up now
