Cheapest satellite/cable TV package inc sky sports, BT, films and landline.

I’m currently paying c£130/m for the delights of a sky package plus £10 for maintenance contract. I don’t even get BT sport. That just seems too much and month by month it seems to inch up a £ or two. I’ve tried looking at other suppliers but it’s so complicated making sure you’re comparing like with like. BT seem to offer some Sky packages but not all. Likewise Sky offer some BT.
What are others paying for packages with all the Sky and BT sports channels plus the usual movie options, landline, broadband etc ? I just need that stick to beat Sky with to get them to cut the cost to keep me as a customer. At present I don’t have the credible ammo.
Surely it must be possible to get the whole lot inc BT for less than I’m paying now ?

Speak to sky. You need to upgrade to q. They own the kit and therefore no maintainence.
I get 60mbs broadband sport movies uhd and boxes in 3 rooms for that and I'm not on a cheap deal. No calls included tho.

 

I pay about £30 less p.m. than that for Virgin and get all the sport (no movies), plus broadband and calls. And Virgin is generally thought to be pricier than Sky.

 

Give notice to leave and mean it. Do some research and be prepared to move supplier.

If they ask you where you are going to and how much you are going to pay don't tell them. Otherwise they will just try and beat that figure. Without a reference point to beat they will have to aim as low as they can.

Don't take their first discounted offer. They will come back with better. Their "retention team" will contact you in the month notice period. They are the ones really empowered to give you the best deal.

Even then, negotiate.

I was offered a £59pm deal for 18 months including broadband, talk weekends, sky sports, movies & entertainment. Box sets, docs & kids TV for £1 extra pm each if I want them.

When I declined they actually asked what I "could afford" to pay, implying there was still the opportunity to negotiate on that!

If you have the equipment and it's set up then it is zero cost for them to retain you. That puts you in the driving seat.

Edit: This assumes that you are currently out of contract.

If not you need to wait until the next subscription increase or your contract period ends. You have a period of time (28 days I think) from any rate increase when the contract can be cancelled with one month's notice. I've done that before and managed to negotiate a good deal (you may have to restart the full contract period again though).

 

I was paying £86 a month for Sky plus broadband and phone line so phoned them up. I just complained that since I joined Sky they had lost the ashes, champions league etc and that if I was a new customer it would only cost me £60 a month for the same channels I had. Without hesitation the price was dropped to £60 for 18 months

 

I bought myself a Firestick for, from memory, £49, then subscribed to an IPTV service called ipeeTV for £45 per year + a VPN provider for £17 per year. It gives me access to Sky Sports, BT Sport, Bein Sport, Australian sports channels plus a host of American sports channels which I never bother with.

 

At lot of my ubergeek mates rave about ipeeTV. I've just seen they're offering a 24hr trial for £1.99.

 

All sky sports and BT sports channels or just a few ?

 

From what I've been told: EVERYTHING.

 

The best TV package is through sky. No where else offers everything and you can bargain with sky to get it cheaper anfd get Netflix thrown in as well.

It's the only way to get non delayed 4K UHD, Doby Atmos sound, on demand, box sets etc. on all available sports channels is through Sky Q directly.
Virgin BT talk talk etc offer subsets of what's available (channels and or quality) but not the same service.

BTview does offer more options with BT Sport than are available through Sky however.But the way round that is to get your TV from Sky and your BB from BT. If you can put up with their throttling it'll give you BT sport.

I don't like the idea but sky has a monopoly If the best selection and quality (picture not programming) is of utmost importance then there really is no alternative imho .
The on-line streaming services need to be used through a VPN nad can be a hassle. Sky just works and allows the user to view and or record up to 6 channels at the same time.

I have family members or Virgin and BT View and their TV offerings are just 2nd rate by comparison. Virgin does offer bloody good broadband though.

 

So what do you pay for your package with BT sport, movies etc ?

 

You really think Sky offers the best picture? My father subscribed back in the 90s, and (the not yet) Mrs Keighley in the early 00s. In both cases, weather played havoc with the picture quality, compounded by the proximity of Canary Wharf for Mrs Keighley.

We have never had any problems with picture quality since switching to cable.

As for range of channels, Sky certainly has far more but I doubt very much that we would ever watch any of them anyway, with one exception - Sky Atlantic.

 

I only get break up if a fat pigeon sits on the LNB.
Things have moved on massively since the analogue SD transmission days. Big changes even in the last 5 years.

When I mention quality I mean no one else offers the Sky Sports channels in 4K UHD with Doby Atmos sound unless things have changed recently.
I even got Eurosport for something in 4K the other day which I didn't think was possible.
Whether you want to see every bead of sweat on a darts player's brow is of course another matter.

Obviously theres 8K and better 4K pictures out there but not live broadcast - yet. Sky are planning HDR as well if I recall correctly and imho that's a bigger leap than HD - 4K.

Of course it all depends on whether your TV can cope with it but mesitertron is a 60" HDR set that I sit about 2 feet away from so I see the benefit.

 

I don't get BT sport (through Sky) but for circa £120pm pretty much everything else
All other Sport & sky Movie channels (not the box office or things like Arsenal TV that are extra subscription) and all the other entertainment channels.
Main 4K UHD box (2Gb storage) in the front room, HD box in the games room and HD box in the boudoir. Licence for 6 mobile devices.
All the box sets and the other online stuff, music videos exclusives etc.
Line rental
60Mbs unlimited unthrottled fibre broadband.

Extra Q boxes are a one off £75 and no extra per month. Maximum I think is 4 with 2 running at the same time in addition to the main box. The Q system creates a mesh network so works as wifi repeaters as well.

The best thing is I can be watching a recorded film downstairs, pause it. continue watching on my tablet whilst I take a dump. continue watching upstairs on the bedroom TV and then download it to the tablet and watch the rest on the tube. It's just an excellent seamless system.

A new customer could get all the above plus probably netflix and bt sport for less I would imagine, but I'm not on a contract and unless you sign up for 18 months they're a bit tight with discounts.

 

All of them - Sky Sports red button ones too. Each channel is also offered in UHD, FHD, HD and SD - and also includes Virgin Media, although I've never bothered with that.
BT Sports 1 to 3 + ESPN and BT Sport extras 1 to 7

 

I don’t have much interest in the other Sky channels (we have Now TV so the better half is covered for films and entertainment etc), but thinking about treating myself to Sky Sports for the new season. Does anyone have solely the sports channels, and if so what do you pay monthly?

I could get the monthly pass from Now TV but seems a little dear for a handful of channels at first glance.
