Nice, looks like they sell his half time snack too: breakfast lunch dinner with a side of freshly cut sandwiches.

Breakfast lunch and dinner in one sandwich? That I'd like to try.

Troy needs to get that on Dragon's den. I reckon Deborah Meadon would demolish a fried egg, tomato soup & chicken jalfrezi butty.

I like how the selling point of the sandwiches is that they're "freshly cut".

"Sure, they've been lying around ready-made behind the counter for a week, but once you order it we'll slice it straight away, right in front of you!"

This thread makes me look forward to ZZTop's annual review of Troy's first day of the season waistline.

Always something to look forward to.

Rather impressively featuring dead people who never visited the establishment to demonstrate its creds.

    Almost Johnsonian chutzpah.

The club have invested in a novelty cup and water bottle to look normal sized against his bloated frame.

Is Troy training his adorable, Labrador gaze towards the @rsenal side of the fence?

Maybe Leonard Rossiter’s massive £45m budget is doing some talking.

Just had a look at the gooner's bit of Colney on google-maps. I can't get over the number the pitches they've got and how different they look - would they be used in rotation or does a modern 'greenkeeper'/pitch management team have to ability to make a 'Spurs pitch', an 'Anfield pitch' an 'Emirates' pitch etc... One for @Stevohorn methinks?

You pretty much answered it there Bwood.
Modern training grounds have different standards of pitches. Not quite as accurate as an "Anfield pitch" but they would have at least two first team pitches that they would aim to get as close as possible to the home stadium. Then a couple of "1st Division" pitches for reserve/u23 sides and a few lower standard for other youth sides. The idea is that they would train on pitches as close as possible to their next fixture. The 1st team pitches would receive a maintenance program the same as the main stadium and would have been constructed in the same way. I know we spent in excess of half a million pounds in 2014 on the construction of the two "Vic Road" pitches at Colney. They would also operate a rotation system probably switching pitches every 3rd day or so i'd imagine.

Looking at this map i made up a while back it looks like we have potential for more pitches than Arsenal.. though i know a good deal of our site is used up by the student facilities. The pitches on their side do look better fertilised and maintained but i'm not sure how recent the aerial pics are.

    Bit of history for yer..
The De Havilland Aircraft Museum was built up around a country manor called Salisbury Hall. The place became synonymous with Nell Gwynne who owned a cottage near the entrance to the manor (and purportedly haunts it these days) Later Lady Randolph Churchill bought the manor house and had regular visits from her famous son. Later still De Havilland designed the Mosquito there and much earlier Julius Caesar and Boadicea were said to have visited the area.
All this a stones throw from our training ground!

Stevo, how different will those pitches be?

    What are the variables?

    Size, grass, bounciness?

In my day, it was grass vs astro.

To mirror the Vic, you’d need fans on one side asleep, the next one empty (because of a 2for at Legoland), the next squinting hideously into the sun & then one full of beery flag wavers goading the oppo keeper.

And a pitch tilted like a clipper on the high seas.

And they’d have to trot out to that ghastly scouse penny whistle racket.

Caesar J was around approximately 100 years before Queen B; and her mob, the Iceni, were more likely to have been Norwich City anyway.

Indeed and it was unlikely that Boudicca ever visited London Colney area, as they went from Norwich to London via Colchester which they ransacked . From London they travelled westwards to meet the Roman division that was busy commiting genocide on the Druids in Anglesea.

Stevo, whilst you mull your answer, an update on Brentford's new ground.

Gone for the spartan 'kicking a tin can around a bit of wasteland' vibe.

Well to do my answer justice i realised i would have to nearly write a PhD paper and given that i'm working long hours on the golf course right now i feel ive bitten off more than i can chew!

    But.. here's one i prepared earlier :) https://www.pitchcare.com/news-media/norway-to-treat-a-pitch.html
An article i wrote for a turf publication some years ago and it at least explains what goes into maintaining a modern pro football pitch. Mind you our standard was probably no higher than "top half of league 1" Just read from about the third pic down as above it's just irrelevant waffle.
