Porto-based twitter account claiming that we have enquired about Mali and Porto striker Moussa Marega and are willing to include ‘the rights’ to Domingos Quina in a deal.

Can’t see it being true unless Quina is somehow angling for the move home but I doubt it.

They have followed the tweet up with another saying that their source for the news is the same who broke news of Porto making an approach for Bruma from Leipzig - which was criticised as being fake until the Leipzig management came out and said Porto had made an offer.

If Quina would be what it takes to get Marega, who'd be a big upgrade on what we have up front, then goodbye.

Marega is terrible, Porto fans couldn't believe their luck when West Ham were rumoured to be buying him for £30m a few weeks back. I hope Gino isn't that dumb.

I don't know what to believe about this Marega haha

Anyway, Quina is absolutely mint, and will surely have a big role to play very soon, **** selling him lol. I think this journalist doesn't know Gino very well

Way too expensive for us. Oddly being linked with Liverpool and Wolves. Old-fashioned centre forward style. Don't think this has any legs and like others would prefer to keep the Quina boy. We have already seen what he can do.

A few choice quotes from when Wolves and West Ham were recently linked:

4 goals from open play, and 2 assists, in 9 Champions League appearances last season, including a goal and an assist in the round of 16 vs Roma, which can be seen below (assist for Porto's first goal. then gets their second). He's not purely a flat-track bully.

For West Ham or Wolves, signing him would be less of a big deal given that both already have better strikers than ours, but for us Marega is a striker that can do both Deeney and Gray's roles combined, and at a higher level than each.

Sounds like a cross between Deeney and Gray, it's a yes from me.

So excited about this. I'm wondering if we can get Eddie Murphy to play Quina but with that CGI thing to make them look younger like Zeta Jones in the Avengers.

0 goals in 6 games in the CL the season before though! His league goalscoring and shot stats aren't much different to Deeneys, yet he's playing for one of the leagues most dominant teams in an inferior league, that output would certainly decrease in the PL for a mid-table side

22 goals in 27 games in the league the season before though! ;)

10 goals this season from open play for Marega this season isn't a huge amount, sure, but Porto were more conservative this season and their goals this season were shared equally between their main attacking trio: Soares 12 goals from open play, Marega 10, Brahimi 10. Therefore he was basically still pretty much on par output wise for the overall performance of his team - regardless of the quality of the opposition.

Deeney's scoring stats relative to to our other players was also similar to Marega's relative to his, and they also seem to perform similar roles for their teams. The same was true for assists as well, with Marega on 7 and Deeney on 5 - each having the third highest league assist totals for their teams.

Therefore, when thinking about whether his output would decrease or not if he came here, the question perhaps rather turns in to one of: are Porto a better standard team than Watford?

One might expect a "number 9" finishing the season as the second highest scorer in a higher standard team to be a better player than the equivalent in an inferior team, and vice-versa. It's actually not an entirely straightforward question to answer, it could feasibly be argued against, but the edge would prob still go to Porto (and also to Marega).

However, I would consider that 28 we might only get a few seasons out of him, so he might not be worth it for a huge fee. He also might have already peaked? League form suggests possibly yes, CL form suggest possibly no. I haven't really seen enough of him to answer that. He might have reached a similar turning point in his career for Porto as Deeney has for us.

One other random note while looking at his stats he has a rather disconcerting 65% pass accuracy. Dunno if there are any mitigating factors, such as the ball being lumped to his head all the time but that's dreadful. He still manages decent assist levels despite it though.

Are all those comments about Stefano Okaka?

That is quite a pertinent question. Despite the view of some of our fans, Okaka is well regarded in Italy. I don't see how this guy is worth so much compared to others, including Deeney and Okaka.

It's definitely a tricky one, I'd be much happier about it if we were linked for an outright transfer (as long as the fee is reasonable), but it's not worth the risk when the rumoured deal means losing one of our brightest young talents who could be a key part of the team soon.

Okaka is unfit and toilet. If we can get any fee and remove his 45k wage it will be best business of the summer. A horrible signing by Giraldi. Awful, dreadful work.

Don’t think he was on the pitch for 90 mins last season.

Maybe a reference to Elton’s more football centric sequel?
