Was a successful season. We can’t be defined by what we were 10 or 20 years ago. The club has moved on immeasurably. We’ve been in the PL for a number of years without much (if any) threat of relegation. This thought that we are lucky to be where we are is nonsense. We’ve worked for it. Mid-table Championship is where Preston are - they have a richer and more successful history than us? Are we fortunate to be above them? No. It’s churlish to go back to 1979 or such years. It’s silly to even go back to the turn of the millennium - the club has moved on so much in that time. I think last season will be the period where the pundits and bookies will stop writing us off - we won’t be among the favourites for the drop next season. We are an established PL club now. Better than every team in the Championship bar absolutely none.
Im really happy to hear such positivity. However, the football league is littered with 'mid table premier league teams' like Bolton, West Brom and Stoke. For 100 years we were a lower league side. Then we became an overachieving championship team (relative to our size and history). Maybe we are now in our 3rd era. But I still dont believe any Watford fan should ever complain about 17th on the prem or mid table in the champo. At the same time I totally agree that we should be aiming higher right now but without being spoilt or feeling entitled or complacent (im talking in general, not suggesting any of the people commenting on this forum are spoilt, entitled or complacent)
It's clear you're all measuring different things. Our resources alone suggest we are a lower championship position. We have performed better than that for some time now and that better performance has brought better finance which in itself has helped push us above where our attendances alone would suggest. I think RD suggested our players budget was 6th bottom in this league ? However last year we finished 11th. 3.12am ?
We were quoted last season as 13th in the wages budget league at £1.775 million per player. Is that the same as 6th bottom?
