    Same old corporate nonsense.

The betting industry clearly sees easy profits are made from football fans.

VAR, live TV games at 3pm and now this.

Will there be anything sacred left about the game in the future?

What's weird is that the promotional video being referenced that they made for the partnership was published online fully yesterday; just seems like nobody noticed.

To be fair, it's probably the highest concept thing that's ever been done for us.

(Yes, I appreciate where that bar is set)

A cryptocurrency company whose main other marketing activity is sponsoring a made-up tournament for fake countries - this just screams "scam".

I'd have thought the Pozzos would be more savvy than this - unless it's all part of another elaborate ruse by them to secretively funnel money around.

edit: Ha, the company's slogan is "know no borders", so that's obviously what it is - sneaky Pozzos.

Without watching the video I like the logo on the shirt and the contrasting colours, works pretty well.

Some people might say that cryptocurrency sports betting is a polite way of describing money laundering

Those people would of course be wrong, but they might say that anyway

    Genuinely quite disgusting.

Particularly from ‘the original family club’ who at every opportunity publicly pontificate about how they are upholding the values and principles of Graham Taylor.

I hate to give them any credit whatsoever but I heard Luton’s chief executive on the radio a few weeks back saying that they would never have a betting sponsor and have turned down several offers to do so. If a s**t, skint and generally scummy club like that doesn’t have to debase themselves in such a way then why do we - a club going into our fifth consecutive season in the richest league in the world - have to?

I don’t like the promotion of online gambling anymore than you - but we aren’t rich. Until the PL clamps down on them as a whole, then we aren’t in a position to turn away the riches they undoubtedly offer. But the eulogising from the club about how they are a different betting company is a bit much - they said the same about the previous two betting companies we affiliated ourselves with.

Personally, if they have to allow it, I think betting companies should only be allowed to be the smaller sleeve sponsor.

And that scum up the road can pontificate about turning down money from betting companies - but that would change when the money got serious. New grounds and players don’t pay for themselves...

It's time gambling advertising was banned. We should have the Persil logo on our shirts, or Ecover if we really want to make a statement

Burnley are a similar sized club to us and are also sponsored by a shady foreign betting company, which they have been paid an estimated £5 million for.

Presumably we are earning a similar amount and in modern day football to a club like us that is a pittance and would certainly not equate to ‘turning away riches’. To put it into perspective, it is around the amount we would make by finishing two places higher in the table. When you take into account that we would likely be able to attract another sponsor more befitting of our values and identity as a club, even if they might pay a million or so less, it’s just not worth it.

If all these companies are lining up to sponsor teams, then why does every team pick a betting firm more or less? I’m not sure there’s much interest beyond them....

And £5m is not a pittance to a club like us.

I respect your views but an incremental £5m is not a pittance.

  28. J.B

    J.B First Team

It’s not an incremental £5 million. We’ve had a non-betting company main sponsor for the last two seasons and received a reported £3 million for it.

As I said, that sort of increase in revenue is simply not worth it, especially considering how much value the club seem to place in our family-friendly image.

Well Leventhal has just tweeted that it’s worth between £21m-£25m over the 3 years. Bit more than £3m...

    So, not a pittance.

Excellent. With this sponsor deal we can afford Cahill’s wages, signing on fee and he’s free. It’s a no brainer.
