But Brighton were newly promoted last year when we played them in the opening fixture, and won easily!

August has been kind to us, should have a good start, then fairly even months until January and March which are in our favour!

New manager bounce with Potter at Brighton ?
We're as good as down already.
Where's that "Relegation watch" thread ?

    No they weren't.

  5. Yes they were. The promoted teams last year were Cardiff, Fulham and Brighton. And they were all relegated.
    This is a post-fact era.

No Norwich went down last season

Sorry you are correct that was the start of their second season, they were so poor I was thinking they were newly promoted!

Yes. It was the result of a late VAR call. Interestingly it also turns out that we went out of the FA cup last season in the 6th round after defeat at QPR.

Note our reunion with the Snake is early this time. I'll take a non-embarrassing defeat now.

It's because there are now 7 'northern' PL teams according to PL classification, which means there was always going to be at least one north vs south match. Also, they don't mind the odd match between two distant clubs on boxing day if it allows them to meet other requests, such as not playing at home on a certain weekend because of a certain event.

  12. Fairly balanced schedule, no really great or really nasty months

Same as last year then with Brighton at home .

Tough last 2 games .. hopefully don't need the points .

Away on BD for once and a shame Leicester/Villa away are mid week .

When will our first TV game be - Arsenal at home ?

I was hoping we would start away so I would miss just one match, with us starting at home I will miss the matches on 10th and 24th August.

I have just checked hotels in Sheffield and there is plenty of availability on the night of December 25th before our away game with the Blades

A shame to not have a single home midweek game in the list.

September, February and May are tough months. All will change though as we get into the final of the League and FA Cup.

Home to Brighton then. That’s the last slot on MOTD’s running order sorted.

We’ve got more chance of winning La Liga than we do of getting past the 3rd round of the League Cup, let alone getting to the final.

That will be Man U and Arsenal.

Winter Break in Feb I think.

Probably be really mild and sunny then!

So our first league game of the 2020's is Wolves at home. I'm not expecting much from that game. Only you have to go back to the 1960's to find the last time we won the opening league game of any decade (though we have won in the cup) with a 5-2 home win over Exeter.

    Our record since then reads..
1970's Lost 1-0 home to Blackpool
1980's Drew 1-1 at West Ham
1990's Lost 2-0 home to Swindon
    2000's Lost 2-0 at Derby
    2010's Lost 2-1 at Doncaster

I hate to keep bringing up an old quote, but last season the promoted teams were Fulham, Cardiff and Wolves.

    Brighton came up with Huddersfield.

Quite balanced fixtures. Must be a record to have the exact same opening fixture two seasons in a row. Ecerton away will be a feisty one against the snake.
