Cool, but Mikels agent wasnt present. Do we really think think the Pozzos would've got Pedro to sign a contract without representation?

JP started but blanked as Fluminense lost 3-0 away at Athletico PR a couple of days ago; albeit Fluminense had a red card on 33 minutes. Hopefully it a least kills some of the hype and supposed Liverpool interest.

Liverpool are now no longer interested, but reserve the right to be interested again if he scores in his next match.

    Sensational overhead kick from JP!

Gained £10mil in value and lost £10mil in value in the same game. Impressive.

Incredibly naughty goal. Very excited by him but I do have the feeling that he's never going to end up playing for us. Hope he does.

After going through an entire game without a goal in his previous match, Liverpool's interest was all but over. Now he's scored an overhead kick they are interested again.

However, this is not as good as Zlatan, so we may still be ok.

That is an extremely well thought through analysis
It ignores the reality of life (if Real want Pedro they will just wire money to his relatives to secure a signature) but the commercials are clear - we are in the driving seat on this one and i can't imagine that a work permit is likely to be an issue with him

My only concern with this deal is the fact that it is now so high profile, and Flu have come in for so much stick, it may not ne easy to make any similar deals in the future without bigger clubs getting in first/ offering more etc.

could be - but remember we put the money on the table before he had kicked a ball for the first team - the big boys will have to have a huge net and a willingness to take greater risk - if they wait for 17 yr old talent to prove itself then the price rises and the chances of getting the signature reduce.

If they do do that the we will have to go even further back in the process - perhaps like horses we could bid for Ronaldo or Neymars sperm!

Yes but they have more cash to replicate/better our scouting network and more cash to put down on the table to secure young talent. While we were signing the Oulares, Paredes and Successes of this world I doubt they were too worried but with Richie & this guy both looking to be steals, I'd be surprised if they and others weren't getting closer to these clubs' promising prospects.

I can't see that. The whole thing here is we took a punt/great risk on an unproven 16 year old. That appears to be paying off.

In the future, there will still be skint clubs who will be delighted to sell their unproven child prodigies for £10m against the risk of them going Wichelow and being worthless.

No chance, people have been taking a risk on unproven but exciting Brazilian's for years. For every (hopefully) Joao Pedro there is a Gabriel Barbosa. We've not done anything new here.

I'm not sure that Zonalmista article is correct when saying a player can only sign a contract with 2 clubs in a year. I believe the number of clubs a player can play for is limited (two), and the number a player can be registered to across the same period (3) but I don't think the actual contract situation is limited.

I suspect a club could legally contract a player without transferring his registration. In any event, Flu + Watford + A.N. Other is exactly 3 registration transfers anyway, so you wouldn't even need to go there.

I'm going to be gutted if this boy doesn't pull on a yellow shirt. He's scored more goals at his current level than Fat Ronaldo had at the same point of his career...

It's really not. He's guessing about almost all of it and some of his assumptions don't make any sense at all.

The stuff about the number of contracts makes no sense, and he's speculating entirely on the break clause.

As for his point on profit, if the "break clause" is triggered, it makes even less sense! We obviously wouldn't pay £8 million and then immediately be forced to sell him for £18 million!

It's a poorly written piece of speculation presented as fact by someone with no more insight into the transfer than any of us.

That is why i used the word analysis not fact - my view is that it is an entirely reasonable proposition but no one can possibly know how things might actually outturn and what motivations are. his position that up to 8m is left to pay is fact and his scoping of what would have to be on the table to make the brazilians even consider screwing us over is ok. No one can force us to sell , the break clause was a surprise to all of us and he seems to have thought it through pretty well - feel free to invest as much time as him and come up with an alternative set of scenarios - i will look forward to reading them!
