The consequences of that mauling

Never heard of having the lowest points total ever and biggest FA Cup final defeat? If he’s a fan, then he’d know this about his own club. I don’t believe any fan would be unaware, unless they are just a casual fan who doesn’t really pay attention to club events.

I checked again as I was at a meeting in Nottingham with him. Season ticket holder for more than 25 years - He knew who Brian Clough was, had heard of Robbie Savage and Peter Shilton. He recognised the A52 when he drove on it. He did know about the record low on relegation. But until this weekend had not heard of the record FA Cup final defeat.Mind you it was 116 years ago. What was Watford's record FA Cup defeat? Go on google it, i just have.

Another consequence of Saturdays result might be that the first time we beat Man City, there could be some commentary about "revenge for the cup final mauling of 2019" - But unlikely if that first victory is not until 2135.

    6-0?

I'd rather get beat 6 nil than have narrowly lost a close game 3-2 or 4-3. Or even penalties, good god that would have been awful.

It must have been the 10-0 defeat at Wolves in a replay in January 1912, after drawing the first game 0-0, when Watford were still a non-league side. The next time they were in the FA Cup was during their first season in the Football League. Can’t imagine any FA Cup game involving us since being that one-sided.

Yes but 10-0 would have been even better.

It will be remembred until maybe early next Season when the FA Cup is underway, then a passing comment after that. Yes it hurts and right now it stings, but I'd rather fall at the last and attempt to win than fall early and lament us not taking the Cup seriously. Kompany leaving garnered a bigger reaction, which says a lot. City are an exceptional side. There is little shame in losing to them, even with that scoreline. The only thing that makes it hurt is that it was on that stage.

Shall miss watching him, has been the proverbial opposition player I admired that most over the last few years. Pure class on the pitch, and even better off it, always came across in interviews as thoroughly decent, modest bloke.

If we'd have lost 1-0, or after extra time after THAT miss, I'd have been done with football for a long time, if not for good! As it stands, it ******* stings, but after the summer, we go again

Yes exactly like that. However I'm sure you guys are bigger than that and would take no joy from kicking us at this time given our sensitive emotional state. I'm sure you will be happy to just claim the moral high ground. Your silence would say so much more.

  14. Dear fans of other teams,

Please do not be nasty about our World Cup Final record defeat as this will upset hornet boy 1. Also, if any of our players are left at Watfud after the numbnuts on here/hear have had their "clearouts", it will upset them as well.

It's just not nice and it's not clever.

    Love RTC x

    I despair, I really do.

Lizard. I take it we are not going to cricket. Mind you, the weather could be dodgy.

Isn't Larkhall in Scotland? Surely they don't play in the Southern Evo stick Isthmian Div 1 East South and North Conference?

I haven't thought about it since, it was just a game and we lost. We are Watford, nobody cares what we do, who we beat or who we lose against.

We have been in the FA semi finals 4 times in 15 years, twice in the last 4. We are inexplicably good at getting to the latter stages of the FA Cup for a club of our size.

We will probably be in an FA Cup semi final again in the next 3 or 4 years if we don't collapse through the divisions Coventry-style, and then we try and do better next time.

    No big deal.

I would much rather have lost 6-0 to this Manchester City side (who are awesome) than lose 2-1 to a team that we stood a genuine chance of beating (like Muff or Palarse). That latter scenario would have been much harder to bear.

We lost 6-0 to City under Marco Silva, too. The players seemed to come back from that okay.

Unless that was an FA Cup Final that we have somehow forgotten, then I think the magnitude of the games were somewhat different....

Not sure I agree 100%. Definitely comes across well off the pitch but I think he has a nasty streak when playing. A couple of challenges this season were definitely straight reds but he gets away with it because of his nice guy persona.

My comment was an humorous attempt to guess what a Wolves fan might have said in answer.

If you look at my early posts you’ll see that I am one of those exceptionally rare ‘orns that has actually seen Watford beat Man City in the FA Cup. I think there were only about 150 of us back in 1986...

Hopefully one consequence of that mauling will be that Manchester City’s arrogance finally gets the better of them. Their chairman and manager clearly can’t stand being questioned, preferring to resort to ‘whataboutery’ rather than keeping their mouths shut or giving an honest answer. It’s the attitude of a despot, let’s not forget that the whole idea of investment coming from the Middle East is one of soft power and good PR. I can’t wait for them to **** off and start some kind of super league before more clubs go down the route of selling their souls and ruining football.
