We did not keep City narrow at all. We were narrow. Holebas gave City so much space to run into on the left.
City are a good side, but we were poor, clueless, tired and looked frightened. Too many players hid or had a very poor game. We were out-muscled by City. How can Sterling outjump Mariappa from a standing position?
We did not expect to win, but we wanted to see some heart, some passion, some effort. Sadly, we did not see any of this.
Pozzo, Duxbury and Gracia need to look at the performance and ask questions about heart and desire of the current squad . We must offload several players and soon.

Perhaps they read some of your posts on the Politics forum just before the game. Might indicate why it looks like they're half asleep.

What are you on about? Of course it’s an opinion - this is a forum and in the wider football world (unless you want to ask a dull question like “which team let in most goals”) everything is opinion. What a bizarre point you have made. Capoue and Doucoure are obviously (in my opinion) a more robust DM pair than many teams have.

  5. Jumbolina

Well your question seemed to allude that nobody had. Given one team did you are making a false point.

They beat several teams by six this season such as Southampton and Huddersfield and Chelsea. They hit a few more for four and five and could had they wanted to beat them by more if they had been more clinical. Most teams coming to the Emptyhad simply shut up shop and try to minimize the damage. Hardly a competitive league eh ?

It seems to me you are more concerned about Liverpool not winning than anything else. I'm only concerned with our club which despite your tiresome moaning and negativity is in the healthiest state it has ever been on and off the pitch.

One should be more concerned that the PL is being turned into a one team league by a club that has subverted the rules and the only other clubs that can even come remotely close can only do so by spending more and more ridiculous sums of money. In the last twenty years the top three has been the virtual exclusive preserve of the so called top six aside from Leicester.

    The Premier League 2018/19:

    1. Abu Dhabi Oil and Slavery Corporation FC
    2. Fenway Sports Group FC
    3. Oligarch FC
    4. English National Investment Company FC
    5. Kroenke Sports & Entertainment FC
    6. Glazer PLC
    7. Chinese Conglomerate & Investment company FC
    8. Tax Exile's People Club FC

The success of two of those clubs is primarily down to the influx of cash. Not a trickle but a waterfall. One a dodgy oligarch the other a sovereign nation with a dubious record. Chelsea had one title prior to this, City two. In the past there were clubs that tried to bankroll their way to success like Sunderland the Bank of England team. However the financial disparity between clubs was far smaller and thanks to good management teams would come through and make an impression like Huddersfield, Derby County and Ipswich.

That is not going to happen anymore. As it currently stands it is the top six which is all the media seem to care about and fawn over as they did yesterday and the rest trying to avoid the drop.

6-0 is unfortunate. But calling players cowards and a disgrace ? No player wants to go out there and do their worst because they do have personal pride. They will be hurting too as it does affect their reputation. Could the scoreline have been better. Certainly. Perhaps we should have been more aggressive in midfield and pressing, perhaps played Kiko and Janmaat to counter Sterling and get Pereyra to help Holebas more. However 95 times out of a hundred we would still lose regardless.

Gracia has done a very decent job in getting us where we are. A great midfield and a weak defence and attack. But we cannot and spend a fortune to compete. And even if we tripled the budget what would it get us. A couple more places up the table ? And ransom the future of the club ?

Ultimately it is up to the authorities not just here in England but all the major European leagues to take a look at how a few clubs are monopolizing their domestic competitions and take measures to improve the competitiveness of these leagues.

I don't think that many teams win games by sitting back against City. If you think 1 in 38 is proves that those tactics are the best, then that is up to you. It wouldn't convince me though.

Just checking, as your assertion that WFC had the 20th worst defence didn't seem based on the facts, that's all. Calm down!

And yet Leicester won the league. Apologies if that unconvenient truth is a little bit tiresome.

There's always been financial disparity between football teams. Everton were known as the mersey millionaires in the 60s due to their financial backing. It was ever thus.

We've suffered a world record defeat. Asking the authorities to step in just makes us look daft.

The team gave up at 2 or 3 nil. That's a disgrace and is nothing to do with citys money.

The Liverpool supporting media have whipped up this anti city propaganda and you've fallen for it.

But if blaming everything and everyone but our team makes you feel better then go for it. We all deal with disappointment and humiliation in our own way.

My first thought is that this is a good idea. My second is it seems a little childish and like we are bad losers.

We are here to support our team after all

I suspect by the time next season comes around you’ll get little support for this. However I won’t go but purely as it takes ******* ages for me to get to and from a game and there is no point picking the one game when we will obviously lose heavily

You have completely ignored what I have posted. The facts are that the top six are now dominating domestic football in terms of their expenditure and the points they accrue to an extent never seen before. Their financial power relative to other clubs is exorbitant compared to the situation of Sunderland or indeed Everton in the past. Perhaps the players were psychologically shattered at three nil. It can happen. And as far as I know does anyone on Der Spiegel support Liverpool ?

Manchester City need a thorough review from the authorities on what they have been doing to subvert FFP. As I said I couldn't care less about Liverpool but it is up to the authorities to step in and ensure there is a degree of competitiveness in the sport. I am disappointed by the result and scoreline. We could have done better especially with a global audience watching. However it is nice to have a sense of perspective about events.

Is it true that the big clubs are gettting a bigger share of overseas rights from next season? That’s good. Hopefully they can hoover up a bit more talent and we can have an even more entertaining 8-0 cup final next season.

Perfect summary, but I fear it's downhill from here. We all agree that we need a central defender and a goalscorer but we have a number of ageing players in our squad who are not going to get any better and who will need replacing before long. We either need a lot of luck in the transfer market or a big spend

Probably none but could it nudge him to invest more in the defence?

They should have played together yesterday, with Pereyra on the bench.

But I wonder if Janmaat will be off now

Not sure about that. He didn’t celebrate their 6th at all. Just sat on the bench, head in hands looking vaguely embarrassed.

I’ve no idea if he wanted them to ease up. But the main reason no one else has been humped like this in a final for over 100 years is most winning teams stop at about 3-0 up and go into olé mode. It certainly said something about City that they didn’t do that. I read someone somewhere suggest it was a sign a respect from them to us. That one made me laugh.

  21. The current 2018/19 level of earnings is fixed. Any future increase is based on merit, the higher you finish the more cash you earn. It's capped at 1.8 times for the top to bottom earner.

I think some need to get a grip.

City are capable of spanking any team in the world 6-0 when they're firing. We're not the first team they've thrashed, and we won't be the last. Yes, the result is disappointing, but we were never going to get a result if they turned up anywhere near their peak and that's exactly what happened.

The frustrating bit is that they shouldn't have even been in the final in the first place, but it is what it is.

    Two things

Firstly you keep saying ‘world record’. It’s not. It’s a joint national one. Don’t get me wrong it’s embarrassing enough but it’s as much a world record as it is a ‘World’ Series win in one of those American sports only teams from America compete in.

Secondly it’s not about Man City, they just happen to be the team this time. The statistics are there to see the gulf between the haves and have nots is getting bigger and it’s making the sport we all love more and more boring.

Leicester are the exception which will hopefully happen again one day, but 6-0 drubbings every single season are more likely.

RP chance pivotal and unfair playing field given the wealth of City.
It's easy to be unkind and spiteful but most sensible fans know that on a given day it could have been and has been them.

    Watford starting 11 £50m

    Man City sub beach £250m

    What is the point.

Personally, I think the financial gap between the top 6 and the rest has grown significantly even in the few years since Leicester won. And of course, fans of the "top 5" below City would argue there is also a significant gap between City and them.

It's quicker to type 2 words than 3.

We are a 'have' compared to the vast majority of clubs. It's ludicrous for us to complain about money when we are one of the main beneficiaries of the system.

We got to a final. That proves the system isn't as broken as you suggest.

To blame it on finances is just absolving the players of blame, and they don't deserve it.

We didn’t play any of the top 6 to get to the final.

We have premier league money but not super rich billionaire owners money.

Some of the players could have done better, but (having watched the game today success could be the exception to this) they all tried hard.
