I've not accused someone from running away. You've just made that up. Malts can make his own points, he doesn't need protecting.

Malts is a nice guy poster, but is harsh and ruthless in his own way. He's just a bit too subtle for some to understand. The sugar coating, which is referred to as "balance" is only there as a deflection from being criticised. It's a very effective style of writing, as on the surface you can get your point across without being targeted.

    Your EXACT comment...

You like to paint a black picture of someone then run away saying unfair....

So I didn’t make up anything. You said it.

Well then you've misunderstood the meaning. Run away saying unfair, was in response to his quote, not the time he spent away from the forum. Basically if someone tries to paint a black picture of you but gets upset if you respond like for like. It was said in that context.

I was proud of our club and fans yesterday and did enjoy my day to an extent but on reflection feel pretty depressed and despondent. Its not necessarily just because we were lost 6 nil, but because the defeat highlights the futility of our endeavours and what’s wrong with the game and to an extent wider society.

Sure Man City are a great team and at times sublime to watch but ultimately i find it tedious. For me the magic of football is about competition and tension and I’d question the fun in watching a team getting almost inevitably slaughtered. City are well managed and have created an exciting team but it’s all driven by massive wealth injection which in turns leads the media to eulogise Man City without appropriately considering the reasons why they are successful and if it is fair.

Is the role of teams like ours to simply be there for teams funded by nation states, or corporations to humiliate? It’s not even just us traditionally big teams like Arsenal and Tottenham wont be able to compete under their current ownership model.

The best we can ever hope for will be 7th but this too will become less realistic as more teams are bought up foreign states or on the whim of multi billionaires. We’re doing pretty well now but what’s to prevent Villa or similar being bought up on the whim of Saudi Arabia or Iran buying up Lu*on for a laugh. Ultimately the premiership will probably become a proxy for 18 teams funded by nation states or corporations.

If they vaguely enforced FFP big teams could still have an advantage but it would slightly more fair and consequently exciting. It would also be a better test of someone like Guardiolas abilities as a manager.

Otherwise I’m wondering what the point is. We may as well bring back Collesiums and enjoy watching people being fed to the lions live on ducking Sky.

It would be a fair point if city smashed everyone 6-0. They don't though. A lot of teams put up a good fight against them and lose narrowly. Or beat them or draw with them.

So saying they are impossible to beat is sadly a load of bollox.

Searching for excuses for our gutless annihilation just makes us look even more pathetic than the team that capitulated yesterday.

Good point-in the 62 years i have been alive, my calculations say 38 different teams have played in the Final -once you exclude the big 6, only 12 other sides and us have played at least twice. We join Palace, Sheff W, Newcastle and Leicester (all in the 60's) who have lost each time. Crikey even Spurs haven't reached a final since 1987

As i posted a few days ago, since the PL was formed it has been won by 5 of the "big 6" 25 of the 27 times.

Does it make me feel any better no- but as time passes i get a little more reflective

So it was just your view, then, rather than being based on any facts. Fair enough. Do you not think other defenders in the Premier League get any support from their midfield, too?

Look at it like our Dunkirk you can have glorious defeats.

When faced with an over whelming enemy you have to accept fate. You can fight your way out and we did fight. I know some say we rolled over at 3 or 4 nil, I think Gracia just went for it with 3 recognised strikers. Rolled the dice. You may as well lose 6 nil and have the tiniest chance of a goal than lose 4-0.

I’m not saying city are nazis. Seemed a nice lot.

The problem with this point, though, is that you're not comparing like with like. You can shut up shop in a league game at 2-0 down and try to limit the damage and hope that you might claw one back. In a "one off" game you can't do that. And, yes, I know Brighton only lost by one in the semi final but I don't think any City fans thought their team bothered turning up to that game - &, ultimately, they still lost and were out.

Getting to the point in this thread where I’m sure people have stopped reading and lost interest. However I’ll post my thoughts anyway....

Had a drink without monster queues, few songs, quite a gentle build up, good start to the day overall.

Was at the very back of the stadium but was pleased the view was better than I expected.

The game...not much more to be said, my personal opinion is the team tried but it was all a little inevitable and I feel rather than debate amongst ourselves about what the owners, manager, players or fans did right or wrong, it should be for those that run the game at every level to look at what’s happening. That subject probably needs its own thread.

Those mocking the flag waving part near the end of the game or people’s pride in it appear to be the same ones who have long criticised our quiet and passionless support over the years. Both Wolves and Man city would expect to out sing us and be more ferocious in their support, but we’ve created a better atmosphere than both at Wembley now, even agreed by neutrals and most of their own fans.

Journey there and back was easy and painless and I didn’t run into too many idiots from either set of fans (bar one near me at the game, but even he was bearable).

Swansea in the quarter final were 2 nil up v City and were unlucky to lose...

There is no shame in us losing to city, but there is shame in the manner and size of the defeat. The money they have etc is simply not a good enough excuse for me.

And all these articles in the press coming out about man city having an unfair advantage, devaluing their treble achievement. It makes me uneasy.

It’s mental, the accepted narrative is they’ve bought it. So how come Chelsea couldn’t manage a domestic treble when they were outspending everyone? How come Utd didn’t? How come Liverpool haven’t managed a single league title, and one league cup in 14 years or whatever, if it’s just about spending?

    Don't be fooled that that's why they...the press....are complaining

They are complaining because Liverpool, the team their dads made them support, keep not winning stuff.

And rather than acknowledge that Liverpool are themselves trying and failing to buy success, they claim unfair practices rather than just discuss whether guardiola is better than klopp or sterling is better than salah.

The human rights stuff is a red herring, because they'd still complain about the money being thrown at city if that stuff wasn't an issue.

I agree, I think the marvellous support from the fans at Wembley was exceptionally important. It would have been in recognition of our achievements so far and our continued support, and that is how support should be. The players that stay with us over the summer will reflect on that next season and it will help.

But, I wouldn't put it past some players looking at this site in the build-up and getting a blast of the almost total negativity on here and what some "fans" call a "bit of realism" and it is well know that negativity is faster acting and more infectious than positivity.

For everyone saying replace half the players, buy a new defence, we can replace Doucoure/Pererya, replace Javi or whatever. How do you compete with this? We could spend 500m in the summer and be nowhere near Man City. We might get close to the top six but we'll never be in it.

I dont think anyone expects us to compete with those teams, just not to lose to them by world record margins after giving up trying when going 3 nil down.

Even the bit she said about the entire back line needing an upgrade? A bit hyperbolic, don’t you think?

I don’t see any real problems with the full backs, the improvement Holebas has made and the way he’s won over even his most vitriolic critics this season is nothing short of astonishing, and he still has remarkable energy and pace for a 34-year-old. I think we can get at least another season out of him, along with Cathcart, Femenia, Janmaat and Kabesele (who not long ago was some people’s dark horse for player of the season and is still the right side of 30).

Admittedly that leaves us looking pretty thin on the CB side, but I hardly think a complete overhaul is necessary. Continuity and team spirit is just as if not more important than wholesale changes with players who likely won’t be a million times better.

It may be a record margin. Any other year we stood a chance. This wasn’t our time. Could have happened to anyone from 8th place down. We know it, they know it, everyone knows it.

How much would we have celebrated a 1-0 win. Let alone 6-0. How much a domestic treble? They barely raised a smile

Our time will come, our trajectory is upwards. You can always judge a man by the quality of his enemies. Ours yesterday were possibly the best team in the world. We lost. Heavily. But we got there. Brazil lost that World Cup match to Germany, 6-1 was it, doesn’t mean Brazil are bad at football and their fans shouldn’t be proud. It just means they lost that particular game against a very good team. We earned that right to be there, played a blinder of a cup
Run. We outsang and out supported them. Get over it, with some pride for the achievement of getting there. Hold your heads high hornets. You can’t fight the inevitable, hold a stiff uppper lip like true Britishmen before you when faced with impossible odds, against sure defeat and get on with it and keep going.

Plus I got to see Tommy Mooney hugging a Mod girl before the game

How about a boycott of Man City at home next season ... let them and the world's TV audience see them walk out and play in front of a half empty stadium ... stay in the allotment, on holiday, with the kids, in the pub and don't even watch the highlights - and save a lot of anguish on this forum.

Wolves have spent far more on their squad than we have. Ninth biggest spenders in the Premier League.
