How to process yesterday’s result

It wasn’t an ordinary cup final, it wasn’t an ordinary game of football.

It didn’t seem right. Not in a bad way. Just it had a very unique feel to it. I wonder if you noticed?

Firstly we undoubtedly sang the loudest before, during and after which in itself seems odd for us.

The oddness though. How to describe it.
Firstly the City fans. No offence meant but, it’s not passionlessness I mean, they were friendly and sang a little when they scored BUT none of them seemed very happy to win an FA Cup final or the treble. After the game they seemed to look miserable.

Not happy to win the FA CUP and the domestic treble? They’d drunk as much as us. They are undoubtedly good people like us. But contrast how it was after the game here when palace beat us in the semi go when city won the final. Nothing. numb. From the victors.

And I think we felt the same. We sang and gave our all but we all knew the result was practically inevitable. It anaesthetised is to the loss

No publicity is bad publicity. Our name is out there as FA Cup finalists and runners up. So it doesn’t do our reputation any disservice all but 6 teams in the land would have suffered the same defeat.

There is no crying today as there was in 1984 despite the fact we are now record Fa cup
    Final losers jointly

I really don't think we deserved to be beaten 6-0 we were better than that IMO :(

  3. Football is broken.

Mega rich owners have been allowed to create super clubs.

Best thing that can happen now is they all fcuk off to a European super league, we never see them again, and the premier league morphs into an upper championship. There will be a lot less money around the game but it will be a lot more enjoyable for normal fans.

And yes we did deserve yesterdays result. We put out a defence made of cast offs which cost <£2M against a world class attack costing >£200M.

We didn’t. And against anyone else, even Liverpool it would have been harsh. But take heart they beat so many teams by that number or thereabouts. They aren’t normal, they are a team of illegally acquired oil funded superstars. At least it wasn’t 7 then we would hold the record for the heaviest cup final defeat. We tried, had our chances, no other genuine teams fans can come a say they could have done better. We didn’t get to the final from sending in tokens from cornflake packets

I think that game will be a catalyst for the rich owners to start a super league finally in Europe of all the “best” clubs. They can take their toys and **** wave their money against each other Arabia versus Russia versus China.

It’ll be boring and soulless. They’ll want a guarantee of no relegation. Essentially lots of international show games attended by football consumers from around the world.

The appeal will be lost eventually.

Once they leave we shouldn’t let the teams back in they can restart at the bottom of the pyramid

Wouldn't it be boring to be a Man City fan?

Spoke to someone in the train queue who like me and my son had left at the final whistle. Suprised that he'd left before the presentation. He said it was the last time hed be travelling to Wembley with the costs going up. Imagine it being so commonplace winning things that its too boring to attend and avoiding 30 minute que at the station is more important.

I only spotted 3 of their fans smiling afterwards.

Those I spoke to were friendly and not arrogant; decent fans.

But surprising that they showed so little interest, or joy, having won the treble.

The city fans I know, the long suffering ones from their relegation days are a bit embarrassed and ashamed. They prided themselves on not being Man united and gradually they are morphing in to something far far worse.

I wouldn't want us to be like them, sure it'd be wonderful for a season as it was for them when they won a first title etc

We absolutely did deserve the thrashing we received. They wanted it more. The only way you can get close to City, Liverpool and even other clubs further down the pyramid, is by ruining harder, chasing lost causes, challenging stronger in you own personal battles. We did none of that, and if you play without that intensity then you will get beaten every time. There’s this myth that Watford are this hard, physically imposing side. It’s just not true. These top sides find playing us as one of their easiest fixtures.

I think it’s more that they are being respectful in victory. It’s a lesson that fans from other clubs should learn. They knew they would win. It’s like us playing Boreham Wood. We’d know we’d beat them and afterwards would feel no animosity towards them as there is no rivalry.

It becomes very easy. When you take away the jeopardy, then victories are routine. This takes the edge off any achievement.

City are a very decent bunch. I had a beer with them before the game.

Two options for processing yesterday's result.

    1. Forget it ever happened.
    2. Quit football and watch netball.

Bet we got a right kicking on the BBC/BT..

Pundits call us physical etc because Doucouré and Capoue are seen as strong and powerful whilst there is Holebas kicking the odd player.

And of course Deeney who is the media favourite and comes out saying he will do this and that.

Trouble is when he does things seems to go wrong - he was going to have Kompany for example and look at each time he plays Arsenal now!

Most of the others hardly put a foot in - and Doucouré once booked might as well not bothered.

Adopt the approach I had in the Boothroyd relegation season,

See what the result is - turn off tv quickly.

Don't watch/listen tv and radio sports programmes
    Avoid newspapers
Avoid social media, watching you tube fan reports etc

    read Kipling's 'If'
    Go again
It was much easier in the Boothroyd days

Re-watch the Wolves Semi Highlights and say to yourself over and over again the following:

    THIS WAS OUR FINAL
    THIS WAS OUR FINAL

Trust me. yesterday will soon be distant memory to all of us. Apart from the fans who again were
immense yesterday all game, we had very little to shout about for 90 mins.

At times during the past few seasons, I had resigned myself to the fact that teams like us just can't do anything in the Premier League. I like being in the Premier League, but there's only so much utter mediocrity you can take before it gets boring. This season was different, OK we only finished 11th, but we really threatened Europe for a long time, it gave me hope that we could actually do something other than tread water. However, yesterday was a reminder, as if one was needed, of just how ridiculously far ahead teams like City are. I'm not even going to blame the players too much, and I know we'll never be competing against City, but it was very much a dampened to be given such a stark reminder like that.

As I say, I have really enjoyed this year, but I'm kind of glad it's over now, even when we were on form, there were still a lot of nervy moments, I can finally relax now! There are other sports out there that I like just as much as football but am nowhere near as emotionally invested, that'll satisfy my sports fix for the summer!

Yep I don't remember us going crazy after we beat woking.

Our fans didn't go crazy after beating Leeds 3-0 in Cardiff either.

Man city supported their team through all the relegation years. Our fan base dropped to about 9k when we were ****.

We are in no position to try and claim we've got a better fanbase.

We didn't even sell out the cup final.

    Spot on mate.
I know a long standing (40 years) City fan who is exactly the same. They have turned into the club they always took pride from not being. They were the team of the true people of Manchester. They mocked Chelsea when Comrade Ambramovich went on his spending spree to buy titles. They laughed at the plastic fans of United. Now they are worse. They now take it all for granted and that’s why the enjoyment isn’t there.
I personally don’t want a European super league. I just want Financial Fair Play to be re-written and enforced with bans and points deducted. I hope it starts with UEFA finally applying it to City, then PSG....

Actually, I recall many fans where I was sitting in the millennium stadium going absolutely nuts v Leeds and I was one of them - after every goal and particularly the 3rd from Hendo and when we were presented with the cup. I also remember people still going nuts in the traffic on the M4 and ripping it out of the Leeds fans.

And this quote you keep coming out with about not selling out our tickets for the cup final - we don’t sell a few club Wembley tickets at £250 each - well there’s a surprise. £250 is ridiculous for the normal fan to afford for one game when you also consider travel costs and drinks etc. The rest of our allocation was sold out when I checked on Friday and people we’re all over social media trying to buy any spares. We sold one on Sat morning after one our mates was in a nasty car accident on Friday and told he the doctors that he was unable to travel to Wembley.

It was quite something to watch them repeatedly weave the ball through our entire team, time and time again.

It must have been utterly demoralising to be one of those professsional sportsmen so comprehensively ****ed over and over and over.

By the 5th goal, Kompany and Guardiola both wore expressions that were pure pity for our hapless wage stealers.

My suspicion is that the general knowledge of road numbers has plummeted since satnav came in.

A shame & the deathknell for the classic ‘roadworks on the A41’ conversational icebreaker.
