Wonder how random players the Watford Observer can link us to over the summer months? https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...-and-pape-gueye-according-to-reports/?ref=rss
The Wobby will excel this summer in trawling the web, social media and the syndicated press associations around the World looking for links between players and the mighty WFC. Do not expect any journalistic investigation, authentication of sources or basic use of a spell-checker. We have more resources signed up for this forum skilled in deductive reasoning, including experts in wallpaper and interior furnishing in hotel reception areas, cafes, motorway service stations and football training premises.
Sport Witness will pick a story, probably about Roberto Pereyra, and recycle it twenty times expressing different 'editorial' speculation until everyone thinks it is massive story that has really settled in, when it was just a piece of AC Spam recycled until it dried up like a witches teets.
Ain't that the truth. The days of Oliver Phillips and Terry Challis, when it was a real newspaper, seem decades away.
Why would Leicester make a left back their "main target" for the summer when they already have Chilwell?! (Unless they plan on selling him of course)
Yes my free kick and corner counting duties at Burnden Park and The Valley are up there with anything Paddy Barclay can offer! I did interview Alan Mullery once. I didn't understand a word he said.
I assumed from the heading that this was going to be about a rumour that the WO was going out of business. That wouldn't have surprised me.
I wonder how many threads are going to be created for transfer rumours... Can we just have one megathread?
TBF all local newspapers' major/only source of revenue is data hawking. GDPR has pretty much killed that (and the junk mail industry). Blame the EU for that.
They should just hang around petrol stations, easily done and guarantees excellent early warning of new signings
Exactly. Given the journalistic standards in this country, I am still baffled how no reporter has picked up on the brazen meeting between Troy Deeney and Craig Shakespeare on that Leicester Esso forecourt 2 years ago.
Latest rumours (all seen on less than reliable sites, eg HITC, but claiming to be based on news from L’equipe or whatever): Mady Camara - 22yo CDM from Olympiakos. Victor Osimhen - 20yo stiker. Currently a Wolfsburg player on loan at Charleroi (where Lukebakio was signed from) but the Belgian side plan on taking up an option in the loan to sign him permanently then sell him on for a quick profit. Pedro Rebocho - 24yo LB from Guingamp.
Bolded in the category of 'could do with him, but it's not our priority'. If Doucoure goes, Camara I suppose would be something of a replacement, but it's all ifs at this stage. Holebas is getting on in age now so we could do with someone to take that mantle over some time soon (not convinced that man will be Masina), but then again I'm sure he'll be our first choice LB next season. He started his pro career late, so who knows, maybe he has more in the tank than a normal 34 year old?
I think signing someone of Camara's age and style would be useful even if we keep Doucoure this summer. One way or another we can't rely on Capoue or Doucoure to play every minute of every game again, and other than Chalobah, who I think is better suited to replacing Capoue, we seem lacking in quality options for a midfield two. Camara could take a season or two to acclimatise to English football anyway. Holebas' injury and form in the last few games of the season concerns me. He'll also be 35 in a month. And Masina is a complete dud. Given Holebas' age, even if he stays injury free it would probably be useful for us to have someone we can rely on for rotating with him to give him a rest every now and then, or to replace him when he gets his inevitable suspensions. Again, as with the central midfield position it could also just be shrewd to bring someone in a season in advance of when we might want to start them regularly, in order that they have enough time to be brought up to speed and we can check that they're not another dud like Masina and Sema.
What makes you think Masina is a dud? There is a player in there, I think given more game time he will be a decent option.
As convincing as David Suchet. We’ve offered him half of what he was on in 1999, so in line with CB recruitment budget.
Exactly, I'd like to sign both of these players (or at least someone like them, who knows, they might be complete duds!). Still, our need for a striker and a centre-half or two far outweighs our need for a midfielder or a full-back
