Brighton sack Chris Hughton. That has surprised me a bit, but they were not pretty on the eye. Maybe they want someone to take them a little further up the league.

They have 'done a watford' People from outside will say little Brighton have done well to survive and he"s a nice bloke but the owners have seen what we saw with the likes of Flores that the overall trend was downwards.
Hughton did the same with Norwich taking them down with a negative boring style of football, a leopard does not change it's spots

Probably replace him with some German bloke who met Klopp 20 years ago as is the current trend.

My best mate is a lifelong Brighton fan.

The armchair twitter fans of other clubs will call it harsh with all the usual insults - but that’s from the outside looking in, and we know only too well about that. This sacking has been on the cards for weeks. Hughton only has one tactic, one formation. They spent a lot in the summer and yet he continued to rely on the ‘old-guard’ of the nucleus of the team that got them up, and didn’t trust the new signings or integrate them well. To the owner, that will just look like a waste of money.

They’ve just brought in Dan Ashworth from the FA who is lauded as the man behind England’s recent upturn in fortunes throughout all age groups. Think his input will have been key on this.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Boothroyd amongst the favourites to be honest.

Brighton basically being accused of racism because they have sacked Hughton - harsh as the same owners appointed him in the first place and they have a few black players!

From a footballing point of view there has been negative reactions from Brighton fans about him and of course sacking anyone is a risk if the next appointment doesn't work out but that is the risk clubs take.

  6. How dare they sack the manager that kept them up. Unbelievable. Who do they think they are? They should be happy that they stayed up.

I obviously have no idea about the football being played, the situation at the club or anything else about Brighton, but I have this strong opinion based on nothing whatsoever and they are foolish to let him go.

I hope they get relegated next season now.

    Yours sincerely,

You are (insert smaller club here, not like bigger club's fans know the difference between Brighton and Plymouth Argyle), what do you expect, Champions League football? Football's gone mad, I tell ya, MAAAAAD!

Initial reaction is that this is probably just about the right call. They've been bloody awful this season (saved only by three other teams being even worse), played some dreadful football and he hasn't even properly tried to integrate most of the new signings they made. Next season should be tougher for them, think they'd have gone down under Hughton, now, if they get this appointment right, they have a fighting chance. There's definitely a Javi, Poch or a Wagner out there if you're willing to do your homework. As long as it doesn't negatively affect us, I hope they do get it right, hate all these sneering big club fans who jump on any opportunity to criticise sackings when they don't even watch anyone outside the top 6

As for Hughton, he'll be absolutely fine, he'll walk into another job very soon. Can see him go somewhere like Boro, and you wouldn't back against him being able to fire them to promotion

Brighton fans wanted him gone. Football was boring and their form was horrendous the second half of the season. Same reasons we got rid of Mazzarri.

Sadly, any club that employs a black manager will be accused of racism the day they sack him regardless of anything else.

I wonder if we could snaffle Dunk and / or Duffy from them. They have both been immense this year.

Probably, if we give them £40m-£50m.

No one sensible is accusing them of racism. That will surely just be a few odd balls on Twitter. There’s no point even mentioning that as a noteworthy discussion point.

36 points is a sackable offence for any team looking to stay in the league. Brighton have a good set up. Why on earth would they be happy with that? It’s abysmal.

Was Adrian Durham one of them? I remember he talked rather eloquently about Raheem Sterling's treatment in the media, but then a few weeks later, he talked about Darren Moore at West Brom, and while he was hard done by, him using the racism angle there felt very forced

Sol Campbell 'forced' to start his career at Macclesfield. What nonsense.

He was actually coaching some kids at England level before taking the Macclesfield job...

So wasn't quite out in the cold.

And sure someone like Campbell is hardly forced to do anything going by his personality.

Isn't it a bigger story that the 3 joint top scorers this season in the Prem are all African?

Cue: English strikers aren't given a chance.

Absurd decision, in my opinion, by Brighton to fire Chris Hughton after his first bad run. He’ll be snapped up very quickly and Brighton will almost certainly get someone less talented

If one of our managers finished with 40 points, spent £80m and then finished with 36 points the next season, they'd be fired without an ounce of criticism on this forum.

    I'm surprised at the hypocrasy.

Graham Potter takes the job leaving Swansea.

Will he want Ken Sema? - probably not!

Ah well, that means the three B’s are going down after all, unless Derby go up (in which case Burnley will just survive).

Awful and baffling appointment on paper, but you never know in football...

  34. reids

Why is it awful? It's a very different style to Hughtons and one probably more fitting with the players they've got and are likely to get, but Potter has done fantastically well with Swansea considering what he's had available to him, and was fantastic with Ostersunds as well. I think it's a great appointment.

But weren’t Swansea supposed to get at least close to the play-offs this season? Even 10th place flattered them a fair bit.

And we’re talking about a manager who has only managed for one season in English football, in the Championship, which is still a significant gulf below the PL in quality (the Swedish first tier is probably marginally better at best) and has very little playing experience at Prem level.
