Would love to see Penaranda on the bench for this game, he is the type of player who could really announce himself at a stage like this.

I've hardly seen him play. What is it about him that makes him so promising?

I am confident we can achieve, as a minimum, half of that plan

More from what I saw of him at Granada, direct, flair and an eye for goal - Think we will see more of him next season.

We have to go three at the back. Surely?

Well today’s ‘none at the back’ experiment certainly didn’t work out.

    Just 2, Masina and Janmaat.

Play four up top including Navarro.

    They won't be expecting that.

And put Deeney on Silva. Actually on him. Should keep him quiet.

Is it even a foul if he's already sitting on him from before the ref blows his whistle for kick off?

We could put Deeney on both Silvas (Silvae?)

For me, the defence has to change. We have to make ourselves solid. The way we played the past 1.5 games is pathetic. 7 goals conceded in a game and a half, and it's mostly down to weak, limp wristed defending.

I might even bring in Prodl or Britos for this match. We need something different. Mapps and Kabs are so out of form, I don't think you can consider playing either of them.

Kiko has been poor defensively, and Janmaat is a far better option for the final. Obviously Holebas and Foster will not be playing either.

My defensive line up would be:- Gomes, Masina, Britos, Cathcart and Janmaat. It's not very good, to say the least, but probably the best we could field, given the suspensions, lack of form and the voluntary goalkeeping switch.

    He's still younger than Messi.

Nailed on to start ahead of Gerry D

Britos could be a good call.

I am beginning to think we should stick with Foster after all.

Watford are appealing against the red card. There is a chink of hope, if they consider would Antonio have scored. I think the rule is he has to be in control of the ball and was likely to score. I think neither applied as he clearly had kicked the ball too far ahead of him, did not have it under control and the ball travelled away from the goal, with the keeper in close attention.

My opinion at the time, and even more now, is that HAS to be rescinded, but knowing our track record, probably wont be.

A lot of professionals, and ex-referees have said it should not have been a red, but I remember them saying the same over the Capoue and Deeney red cards.

It’s obvious that we can’t keep them out with any centre back pairing and obvious we can score with one up top. The only possible formation, therefore, is 3-5-2 or rather 5-3-2.

This also has the advantage of putting Holebas (presuming he can play) and Femenia/Janmaat, slightly further advanced to offer a threat.

Pereyra has to miss out to make the room, but may offer impact.

Worked like a dream for us in the Champo, less so in the Prem.

Can leave too much space on the flanks.

I don't think I know the rules anymore. I couldn't believe when Deeney vs Arsenal wasn't rescinded. I genuinely cannot see how that is a red card for Holebas yesterday, but I genuinely don't have any faith in the system.

I originally had assumed that the appeals process could review in the cold light of day and make reasoned judgements, but it seems that they are looking for ways to back up the mistakes of the referee of the game, regardless of the consequences of the decision.

Looking at how Deeney played yesterday, it makes it hard to claim his suspension cost us an assured European spot, but I think clubs deserve the chance to get their best players playing.

The thing is I don't feel that VAR is gonna help. I think that refs will still favour soft contact fouls against the bigger teams and have a higher burden of proof on fouls for pissy little teams like us.

There will perhaps be 2-3 decision per season, where an offside goal is ruled out or a penalty is overturned as a free kick instead, when its revealed to be just outside the box, but I expect we'll still get massively unjust decisions weighted against us, whilst bigger teams get the rub of the green.

Is it a foul if we have say Prodl and Deeney standing really close, but with no hands on Aguero, like in a sandwich, all game.

They just follow him around like that and he can't get out of their little trap.

So I've just been looking into who has beaten Man City - Leicester, Chelsea, Newcastle and who else? Spurs in the champs League.

It can be done. That Newcastle win is giving me a tiny flicker of hope in the gloom. I'm gonna go and read the match report now.

    Reasons we might win:

    1. Man City have won eleventy straight games - they cannot do this indefinitely - they are due to lose
    2. We have been on terrible form. We cannot do this indefinitely, we are due to win.
    3. We've an appalling record against top sides. This cannot continue indefinitely. We are due to break the run.
    4. We have an appalling record against Man City, we cannot continue to lose against them forever, we are due to end this run.
    5. Upsets happen when a ****** team beats an amazing team. Man City are an amazing team. We are appalling. All the pieces fit.

Three across the middle and back can assist. Working well for the Wolves. Their game plan worked against us up until Dendoncker stuck his leg out.

Each season since promotion we've beaten 2 of the "big 6".

    15/16 - Liverpool (H) and Arsenal (A - FA Cup)
    16/17 - Man Utd (H) and Arsenal (A)
    17/18 - Arsenal (H) and Chelsea (H)
    18/19 - Tottenham (H) and ........

    You never know!

    Is he fit?

Said the other day on WO site he had a toe injury and Prodl has a knee problem.

So looks like we are stuck with the current 3..
