Bassini taking over Bolton?

The EFL often get bashed for these things but what really can they do? They've pointed out before the tighter and more subjective the 'fit and proper person' test gets, the more likely it is to be challenged in the courts. A lot of prospective owners, even the dodgy ones, are wealthy enough to be able to find the cash for legal action in the High Court to tie them up in knots. The EFL are sports administrators, not a forensic accountancy service. Baz had not even been signed off yet and it was an independent disciplinary commission that only banned him for 3 years. Companies law has a lot to answer for.

This just gets worse for Bolton. They surely can’t carry on with this sale

Given that this is the current owners Anderson's mess Bolton face the horrible prospect of Baz being the one asked to sort it out when and if the deal goes through. What can possibly go wrong?

    Statement by the club:

"Mr Basssini addressed the squad prior to the game against Aston Villa on Friday 19 April. At this meeting he gave a commitment to arrange payment to the players and coaching staff who are still due their outstanding salaries from March by no later than Wednesday 24 April.

Despite further promises made to both the team manager and senior representatives of the squad no funding has been made available to allow payment to the staff or players.

Mr Basssini also failed to make the funds available, which he confirmed would be placed in the club’s account prior to the Aston Villa game. These funds were required to ensure the attendance of the emergency services under the stadium’s safety certificate.

Mr Basssini gave assurance the monies required had been sent by Metro Bank on numerous occasions. [..] it became clear that Mr Basssini had not transferred these funds [..] During the past ten days numerous further undertakings have been given by Mr Basssini but as of today no funds have ever been received."

I really feel for Bolton. Looks like they'll have 7 contracted players for next season, including two keeper. Could easily have been us in that sort of situation. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Pozzos.

One can't pay, one won't pay, so the team won't play. Is their game today postponed until a later date or is it awarded to Brentford? Running out of time to play it at short notice, and with Bolton's "flexible" attitude to paying bills as well....

This is part of his interview with SkySports. What a joke. He thinks everyone is a fool. He's a man full of empty gestures. The latest being a Bolton shirt with his name on it. He promised to make payments to cover salaries and running costs. He said funds would be available on three separate occasions, and hey presto, no funds were made available and the Bolton players went on strike.

I'm stunned he's still allowed to get away with these "I'm so misunderstood" games he plays. He's a fantasist who needs help...not a football club.

Yeah but that shirt cost about £40 I bet. Plus the name on the back is probably another tenner. Significant investment right there. Although I imagine he’s kept the receipt.

I watched that interview earlier today. It’s genuinely frightening. I fear for that club if he gets hold of it.

Sounds like the backers got cold feet at the eleventh hour. No way he ever had the funds himself.

Alternatively would not rule it was just some sadistic plot by him to get some publicity.

Wouldn't put it pass him to be the later of the two scenarios, he tried it on with Portsmouth a few years ago he is and proved it on the sky interview not the type of person who should be anywhere near a senior position in a sweet shop let alone a football club, roumoured to be 200 million pound in debt and not paying their staff!

I saw that, but surely the debt has to be more like 20 million? How could a club like Bolton rack up 200 million in debt?

It is between £20m - £30m according to everything I have read. An uneducated write-up from that cOckstain Rod Liddle in the Sunday Time said it was £200m but he was confusing it with the debt owed to their previous owner who wrote the lot off.

The problem is most of their debt may not be serviceable. The real fear is that as soon as Ken Anderson sells up, debtors will call in their money and whoever buys it can’t pay up. In reality, Bassini would need £20m just to square the club up. And then he’s claiming he will pump in another £20m.

We all know he hasn’t got £50 for his next gram, let alone £40m.

Can’t confess to know much of what Ken Anderson has done there but it must be some frightening stuff for Bolton fans to believe Bassini is the lesser of two evils. Let’s hope for a last minute saviour for their sakes.

I cant think of a situation whereby he would be the lesser of two evils.

Surely there best bet if they cant find a buyer is to go into admin or liquidate. Either start in non-league (they have a big fan base) or in league 1 with a 12 point deduction and hope to stay up without debt.
    Maybe a fan led consortium.

I think, odious as he is, he would be a better option to run a club.
He could at the very least be a figure head, would attract publicity and exposure, I don't agree with any of his views but you wouldn't describe him as simple minded. He is probably financially solvent to some extent and may be able to attract investors. I doubt he would do anything too shady or underhand in terms of financial dealings.

    The devil himself?
Would probably get away with any misdeed. Youd know what you were getting. Could potentially do well. Friendly with most premier league refs already from their weekly naked sacrificial meetings in secluded woodlands where they burn effigies of Watford Players

An empty coffee cup with mould in it?
Wouldn't cause any harm. couldn't get them into any more debt.

I only knew Bassini’s name through posting on this forum, which started doing after he’d gone so by then he was just the ‘Red Helmet’ and a punchline to jokes.

I noticed that today is D-Day for his deal to buy Bolton so during lunch I’ve been educating myself on Mr. Bassini/Bazini. How the **** anyone is even entertaining the idea of the bloke buying and owning anything let alone a football club with so much debt is mind blowing.

*And i’ve only now noticed that the forum autocorrects his name!

As Burnsy said, the owner -Anderson wrote off £198m owed to him in 2017 as Bolton racked up accumulated debt of over £225m. Basically they have made a loss every year since 2007. Their cumulative losses whilst in PL till 2012 was £101m and even with the parachute money after that , they have made losses of £75m since in trying to retain their “status”. Sad as it is, it’s been a long time coming

    This will be interesting.
