Elton has never produced a decent Watford song.

I’m still standing encapsulates our underdog never say die spirit. I approve after Wembley.

    I’m still standing:

You could never know what it's like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use

And did you think this fool could never win
Well look at me, I'm coming back again

I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
Once I never could hope to win
You starting down the road leaving me again
    The threats…

In other news Chris Sutton is an actual anagram of “Hornist see you next Tuesday”

When they played that last night I was astounded at how much better it was than the sh*te that is Z-cars. I thought it might be a bit weird seeing the players walk out to something else but it was a bl**dy revelation.

    Ditch z-cars for good.

I’m normally quite a traditionalist about things, but I’m up for the change to be honest. Be good if it got to a stage where everyone joined in with the chorus, or repeated it when the music went off, something like that.

  7. Like brexit, this is not a subject suitable for referendum because, like brexit, there are too many possibilities. If the club wants to do it. I will happily go along. I'm Still Standing sounded great, especially when it went into the brilliant guitar solo.

Only just read the OP link. Love it that Elton picked it out. 100% behind this, hope the fans start singing it. Maybe a change from the fans to ‘we’re still standing ‘?

Not sure a cheesy 1980's pop song about being a former victim is the sort of motivational encore I want the team to run out to. At all.

Just had a thought, who is the demographic that actively buys EJ's music? I don't mean that disrespectfully. Can anyone enlighten me?

  20. Does anybody actually buy specific music anymore, rather than subscribe to Spotify/itunes?

I haven't bought specific music for at least 10 years, probably a lot more (when did Napster start?)

It's Elton's choice and, just as importantly, it's unique. No one else uses it.

Given that SEJ knows a bit about music I'm comfortable with it.

Also is a bit of a double entrendre with the safe standing issue.

  30. I like Z-Cars. I think having a sing along theme tune is incredibly naff. Swapping every few weeks with a tune for the month becomes incredibly turd like, take for instance, every time we have gone for a tune other than Z-Cars in the past.

It is frankly my favourite part of match days, and it is practically perfect. Starts with the drum roll, goes into a catchy tune, then goes F-ing mental for a bit. If this is it for Z-Cars, so be it. It is the only thing left of the Club that I can still remembers from my earliest days going along, and when I hear it I do get excited that the game is about to begin.

I think it is right that people in general do not get a say in what tune is used. Few people will agree on a 'gold standard' anyway and, in most cases, even the people who suggested it will realise what utter 5hite it is by the third time through, then you lose the impact of the audio cue, and it becomes subject to the artist singing it and 90% or more of the people listening to it wandering why the **** it was chosen.

At least now people know that we play Z-Cars because it is a tradition, and because when it plays they remember, maybe, the first time they heard it, when GT came on to the pitch to it, or Duncan and Stuart came out to it, or we came out side by side with an incredible Liverpool team to it and then made them look ordinary as we stormed into Europe for the first time.

Yep, every tradition has to start somewhere, but if people want to change the tune to something they like, then it is going to be a tough job turning it into a tradition when everyone else thinks it is crap, and the precedent has been set that you can changed it because you don't like it, rather than because it don't work.

I've heard it said many times by other teams that they wish they had something like Z-Cars to come out to, because it is different and not ordinary or obvious. Last year Talk Sport were saying it is the best tune any team came out to, the presenters were raving about it, saying that by far Watford and the northern basterds had the best tune.

I look forward to whatever utter rubbish we are coming out to next season, and then November, then December. If we're lucky, it'll come back again, just as it always has before. Guess it depends on whether it's Gino behind the change or marketing. It strikes me that Gino would not want to change something like that, and, if things don't go well, I imagine he would rather sit next to his pals with his team walking out to Z-Cars than some forgettable pop-5hite.

    Rant over.

It ain't broke, so don't fix it. Z-Cars still sends a tingle up my spine on a matchday (it's bad enough that it's prematurely curtailed to accommodate the poxy Premier League anthem). Leave it as it is please.

  33. Elton did a song that included the line "Ho ho ho, he he he, Watford are the team for me" back in the 70s that would lend itself to a football song (Who'd be a turkey at Christmas time). I'm still standing, a song I like, doesn't do the job any more than Z-Cars does. If it had, the fans would have picked it up years ago. I love Elton, but I'd bet the first thing he said was not "Yeah, I've been thinking about this for years and I've got just the song!". I'm guessing, not without insight, it was more likely something along the lines of "It may be naff, but why on Earth would you change it? Get my secretary to pick one and I'll approve it."

Hope this isn't like one of my very elderly grannies who sadly showed me a huge expensive-looking DVD box set she'd been given for Xmas by one of her offspring.

"But of course I've got it all on me Sky Q, but I had to pretend to be grateful...."

  35. Bit in bold exactly. I'm in my 40s and this exactly sums up the feelings of nostalgia that get stirred up in me when this starts playing from when I went in the late 80s onwards.

    I'm 100% behind keeping z cars.
