It’s a bit of fun and generally harmless. But the bad side to it is that it could do some of our rivals team-talks for them for upcoming games. It’s a bit naive of the social media team to be honest but they do seem to be taking that department in a different direction!
If we did win the cup, whoever finishes 6th would have to play in the Europa League qualifiers in July as the cup winners automatically get through to the group stage.
Didn’t I read somewhere that if you win the cup, you are contractually obliged to undergo a pre-season tour of the Far East or America or something? I mean winning the cup will be amazing if we do it and I would not swap that - but Deeney said earlier this season that our success was born out of trip to Austria and the squad love it. Would be a shame to have to forego that.
Well, they are bottling it. All 3 other contenders and West Ham lost winnable games at the weekend. Ours is by far the hardest fixture so it would hardly be a crippling embarrassment if we lose tonight. I'm sure they all expected to use this weekend to pull away from us and now, worst case scenario, everyone ends the weekend exactly where they started.
...no, though if we suffer an away defeat this weekend that could be described as such ! IF, big if, we did win tonight and at the weekend we would be really well placed for that 7th spot. I still think the cup final, brilliant though it is, will be a distraction. We have worse form over the last 5 games than Wolves, Everton or Leicester. I think Leicester will get 7th.
I'll be throwing some money on a Huddersfield win. That would be typical Watford. But we have to be favourites for 7th now. The cup final is a distraction, and maybe tonight will show how much as the players have talked a good game so far. They seem to genuinely want to finish 7th and take the league games as they come. Plus, it helps a lot we have a head coach who has made it clear in his team selections that if people go into cruise control they'll be dropped for the next match. Dropping Deulofeu for Wembley will have sent a big message to anyone thinking they're a shoe in for the final just because of who they are or how often they've played this season.
Agreed. I won't be able to wear my home Watford kit in a public place if we don't finish 7th. Disgraceful from the club, I'm so embarrassed
From the idea that a horse is so far the favourite in a race, that the jockey only needs to "shoo" it and it will romp home.
Deeney is a brainless moron! Peak Deeney that. Score a vital goal to get us to the FA Cup final and then get yourself sent off in the next game and be banned for 3 games (three huge games that we need to win). Have to think that's 7th done now, especially if Pereyra and Deulofeu are out injured for the next couple of weeks! We will be relying on Gray and Success upfront with Sema as back up!
Nah, tonight makes no difference, we absolutely love getting beaten by the top 6! It’s all about the 4 games against the rest, and we’re pretty damn good at that!
It was a bit daft, but I don’t actually think he meant to smash him in the face, he just did one of those little nudges and happened to be against a member of the Baggins family.
I think it’s only right football goes out of its way to look out for little people and their right to join in with the rest of us. They just can’t take the rough and tumble normal humans can but I for one am glad to see clubs like Arsenal giving them a crack at getting involved.
We'll likely need to beat Wolves. If we do that I still think we'll get 7th. If Deulofeu is out for any length of time then we'll probably miss out.
They did not mention it in the match commentary, but did I see 10 yellows being shown against Capoue's name on the screen? If so doesn't that mean he will miss the next two games. Deeney out for three games and Capoue out for two plus Pereya and Deulofeu out injured for who knows how long does not bode well for our run in me thinks
I would expect a tweet like that at this point of the season from one of our more moronic keyboard warriors, not the official club twitter account. To borrow a quote, the brain of whoever is in charge of that account appears to be so minute, that if a hungry cannibal cracked their head open, there wouldn't be enough to cover a small water biscuit.
I did not know that, well that's a bit of good news then Now lets hope Deeney's red will be overturned, but I doubt it will be
I think some gentle piss taking of the league rivals is fair enough, especially as Leicester and Everton were even worse than their awful opponents. The Brexit thing is weird as **** though.
Watching today's "The Debate" on Sky Sports. They're discussing the Manager of the Season, it comes to Javi Gracia and Watford. Paul Merson says that Wolves / Nuno achievement is greater because Watford are an established Prem side so why shouldn't we expect them to do as well as they have? Before the season: https://www.skysports.com/football/...for-the-title-arsenal-to-miss-out-on-top-four Grade A bell end.
Exactly. Stoke will struggle to finish 11th in the Champo. But to be fair, that was the season before this. Merse had a Damascene revelation about Watford at the time of Peak Ssssnakey. He realised that we know what we’re doing. He is the unlikely winner of the Cleverest Idiot prize.
I saw that. Darren Bent was the other pundit. I don't know what it is, but this has been a consistent theme for everyone in the media right throughout the season. Everyone has orgasms over Wolves and Watford are something they trod in. They looked at the 4 candidates for 7th. They spoke of Everton needing to do it, Leicester being now wonderful since Rodgers took over (although we beat Rodgers' Leicester), praise was lavish for Wolves (even though we've beaten them twice) and were the club both expected to finish 7th......and Watford were completely dismissed as "why are they there?" type of attitude. The presenter kept to trying steer them towards Watford with his questions, but they were having none of it. It was Wolves who are brilliant, Leicester are now wonderful, Everton strong and expectant......and Watford....oh yeah them. When the presenter pressed Merson about why not Watford over Wolves, he came back saying "well is it really an achievement for them, with the players they have?". Giving Watford no credit at all, just now insisting that we've been in the Premier a long time now and should be well established......a far cry from his pre-season predictions of Watford being utter crap…..but of course that's long forgotten now.
