Isn’t the point of the forum for people to discuss Watford stuff? There’s been endless reams of garbage written over the years (including from myself). I thought that was to be encouraged!

There are a fair few suggesting Gomes should play in the final so you can immediately rule them out. :).
    Otherwise, what Jumbolina just said....

If Gomes is so good why doesn't he play in the league matches?

Or do cup matches require a different suite of goal keeping attributes?

If this is the case, what goalkeeping attributes does Gomes have that are superior to Fosters'?

    Just wondering.

Gomes has longer arms. Easier to pick the ball out of the net without causing long-term back issues attributed to RSI.

    Play Foster.

Foster has experience of playing in a cup final at Wembley, he played for Man Utd and didnt let in a goal in a 0-0 draw with Tottenham - and was the hero in a victorious penalty decider.

In the league cup this year Man City played their number 2 throughout the competition - including the semi final - Ederson then played in the final.

The keeper is going to be very busy, play the no 1.

Foster's kicking is better and this will be vital against Man City as we will need to win free kicks in their half with good passing from the keeper to relieve the pressure and give us a chance of scoring, if it keeps going back to Man City it will be wave after wave of attack and we will easily lose unless Man City dont play well. Foster's pass was responsible for one of our goals this season against City.

Gomes has played in 5-0 and 6-0 defeats against City in the league for us in the past.

How many farewells does Gomes need? He had what I thought was his farewell against Palace - then he plays in a wonderful semi-final against Wolves. I dont believe it will get any better from here in the final unless Javi decides to bring on Gomes for Foster just before a penalties at the end of extra time. This is the most likely way we are going to win and Gomes may end up the hero if this happens.

Heart says Gomes and head says Foster, but only just as they are both great keepers IMO.

However I expect Javi will make the right decision for the right reasons, I'll be happy with whatever he decides.

  8. I hear there's a "What Undies thinks is the best team v What Rellies thinks is the best team" planned for 4pm to get us all in the party mood before KO. Only rumours though at this stage.

In the same game Foster played in - there was a picture of them both in the Wolves programme together.

What if we both want the same players ? One half each ? Arf'n'arf scarves ? I think my team may play 4-2-4.

Which was precisely the point I was making in response to Happy Yellow's comment.

Perhaps a better example of citing Foster's Wembley experience would have been to add that he was also on the bench the following year when United beat Aston Villa, and of course was Birmingham's goalkeeper in 2011 when they beat Arsenal - three League Cup winners medals in as many seasons.

Or if Gomes plays, which he will and which has already been decided by Gracia who is in the best place to decide.

Destiny, team ethic, in the moment.

    Gomes all day every day

He deserves it, i think it is poor form to change a keeper who has played every cup match

also if city win and it is a strong possibility, gomes bar an absolute howler of a match leaves head held high, foster will be here next season and if he has a shocker that will be hard to carry

So you think we have a better chance of winning with Gomes in goal ? Just asking, no problem if the answer is "yes", that's your opinion.

  17. Given the goals v Manure and Fulham, it actually seems like the logical conclusion; Gomes is in better form than Foster, he will give us a better chance of winning by your own logic, after that it is just opinion. Why would you pick the player in the worst form of his season?

You would do it because you trust him, and fair dos. I would trust him too.

But I Also trust Gomes, and right now, he is arguably in better form than Foster.

Gomes will play. Is Foster the better keeper? Yes, without any doubt at all, he’s being talked about as being in the team of the year. I would prefer to play Foster as I feel we should play our best team but we won’t.

an equal chance gomes or foster

for me it has always been about the defence turning up, foster is a better continuity keeper but gomes is as good but not at a regular scale

I assume he's joking Jumbo. The only logical conclusion to be drawn.

  22. I think that there's only one option - leave the decision to Javi.

    It's worked so far...

  24. I don't blame him for any of the four goals we conceded, but I do believe his judgement was in question for three of them, and as I have been saying for some time now,I believe Gomes would have been blamed for them, on this forum, if he had conceded them.

I have no criticism of Foster, but that is how I see it.

Gomes, so we can beat the premier League champions then go around singing "Watford's, number 2"

It may come down to who is best at saving penalties. Sentimentally it would be marvelous if Gomes saved a last minute penalty that won us the cup.

Foster struggling to get in Watford’s team of the year, it would seem.

It's a bit of a false equivalency because Gomes is not the goalkeeping equivalent of a past it, couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo striker (which when you think about it is a strange analogy. Assuming you're using the striker's main tool, his feet, then a banjo would be hard to kick accurately and a cow's arse is not such a large target for so unwieldy a projectile).

But the simple, widely agreed truth is, Foster is better than Gomes. How much is up for debate and depends on people's opinion, but in a cup final where we need every single % of advantage possible, I agree that it makes no sense to play even a slightly weaker player in any position.

Let Gomes have a swan song away to huddersfield where it will make no difference.

And for the record, does the loan window open before the final? We can bring Bonham back for Auld Lang Syne and let him have a chance of redemption.

A better example of Fosters superior Wembley experience over Gomes is a game where Foster was on the bench? That’s not a compelling case for not having Foster on the bench for the final haha!

If the argument is about Wembley experience alone then Gomes plays on that basis - as he’s played there far more recently and won....eg. On Sunday.

Dropping Gomes would destroy the team mentality. Much has been said and written about it this year and the damage such a decision would cause is immeasurable.

    We will win with Gomes.
