    Bias as wasn’t at ‘99, but Geri’s.

Facing down the barrel at 2-0 down to yet another Wembley and semi final defeat, the sheer audacity to attempt it to pull it off was a catalyst for winning.

On the other hand, GD clearly has the skills/ability to pull this off. It wasn’t so obvious that Nicky Wright did, so that made it more unexpected.

For me Nicky Wright. No TV replay on screens. Just the murmurs growing for those with good eye sight that it was a worldy. Over time that goal just looks more and more amazing!

Nicky Wrights for the sheer fact he had both arms beside his body, hands face down straight from fifa international soccer on the megadrive

  8. Nicky Wright's.

I was right in line behind it as it sailed in.

I can't believe I would ever say I saw a Watford player score a better goal at Wembley than the one by Nick Wright but I let out a Gary Neville squeal when Geri hit that. Torn

After deep contemplation & letting the dust settle it is still Nick Wright 99.

...& the fact he cost 250k had nothing to do with it.

Deulofeu's goal was stunning and so important to trigger the comeback. But NW's goal was so unexpected and so perfect I don't think that can ever be beaten.

    Genuinely can't decide!

Intent: Deulofeu's was a deliberate, exquisite and perfectly executed chip, Wright's was a hit and hope (all overheads where you can't see the goal, are) which by chance found the only spot no-one could reach.
    1-0 Deulofeu

Potential: We know Deulofeu, who came to us from Barcelona, is capable of that. We never knew Wright, who came to us from Carlisle, had that in him.
    1-1

Context of the match: Promotion to the Premiership is more important that getting to an FA Cup final.
    2-1 Wright

Timing of the goal: We were 2-0 down with 11 mins to go when Deulofeu scored, whereas Wright scored to give us the lead in the first half.
    2-2

So, extra time, which still doesn't separate the two. And then penalties. As penalties are a pure lottery, I've just tossed a coin.

    It's Wright!

One was sheer footballing class and the other was a fabulous athletic strike, so I'd say it was a draw

Of the two, the Wright goal was more important at the time it was scored because it gave us the lead while GD's might only have been a consolation. So the celebration of Wright's was much better.

Its incredibly tight, but I often think about what you might see on at an amateur game. Every now and then a video surfaces of some Saturday amateur league player scoring an overhead worldie - but outside of the very top level you don't see goals like GD's - not the chip itself, but the technique to apply the spin and dip. That was something special so just (only just) edges it.

NW's wasnt even the best goal that afternoon. I always preferred Smart's tbh. The pass from kennedy was sumptuous.

NW had his eyes shut. Hit and hope.

  22. Keighley

I preferred Smart's too but mainly because I was so far away from Wright's that I couldn't really see it. Surprised that @Horace_goes_up_north said he was right behind Wright's shot - I thought that was the Bolton end?

  23. Behind it as in behind him, not behind that goal, and directly in line as the ball flew.

Wow. Its a thing of beauty. Imagine the amount of multi angle replays it would warrant nowadays.

It was the tackle on the halfway line too. Time stood still while everyone waited for a whistle. Next thing you know Kennedys off and away. Glorious.

Yes looked like a foul to me too. VAR would have brought play back and given a FC to Bolton from which they'd probably have scored.

No way anything was getting past Sir Alec on that day no matter how hard Bolton, or Robbo tried!

They are both absolutely incredible goals. I think GD wins, however.

I don't think Wright could have scored GD's goal; the technique and skill required is on another level. I do think GD could have scored Wright's, however; he's more than capable of executing a bicycle kick, and Wright's goal undoubtedly relied on a good measure of luck; he had his eyes closed.

I suspect the number of players in the Premier League would could pull off GD's goal is very limited, while a hit-and-hope bicycle shot is something many players could do in the right circumstances.

None of this is intended to take away from Wright's goal; it was truly incredible, not the least because he tried it at Wembley and succeeded. I will never forget the feeling as I and those around me suddenly realised it's going in, followed by an explosion of euphoria and disbelief, people incoherently screaming with and hugging strangers, and general insanity.

I simply feel GD's was on another level entirely, and the fact we were 2-0 down at the time only enhances it.

Wright’s was a fluke, a wonderful fluke that 99 other times would’ve been headed away by Cox or gone over the bar. Smart’s goal is one of my all time favourite Watford goals: The roar as we break away, the anticipation of what might happen, the moment of silence as we watch Smarts shot travelling towards the goal - 39,000 frozen in time for a millisecond mouths open, and then the sheer ecstasy of knowing we were back in the big time for the first time since I was 10 years old. BOOOOOOOM!

Sorry I digress, Deloufeu for me.

GD for me...... but only until May 18th!

PS Vote for his goal on GOTM and inspire him to even higher levels. :)

  31. Smart's rocket is my favourite Wembley goal.

Del's goal was world class, I can think of maybe a couple of dozen players who could pull it off. So inconsistent but when he's on it he is unplayable. But then if he was consistent he'd be playing for Barcelona.

Smart's was great because it was down our end on a breakaway after 88 minutes to seal the deal.

I didn't truly appreciate Wright's goal until I saw a replay on the TV that night, it was quite difficult to see it in all its glory at the time as it was far away from most of us.

This is true for me on reflection, in fact I only really remember the journey there, a streaker, the celebrations of the Wright goal, the Smart goal and the post celebrations. I have more vivid memories of the millennium stadium, I can still visualise those goals (and slow down the James Chambers one. I don't think I'll ever forget GDs goal on Sunday, I was right in line with it and could tell straight away it was going in

Don't know about anyone else, I still can't stop watching the highlights a few times every day, since Sunday.

Troy's penalty was a rocket but it was lucky not to be saved, very little margin for error with that one because the ball cleared no more than a few mm above the keepers body.

Gray's initial control from Deeney's header & then the pin point lay off setting up the winning goal for Del was pure & utter class & looks better & better the more times you watch it. Most improved player this season & with this new found confidence, starting to become a very enjoyable Watford player to watch.

    Wright,

But Delafoo comes very very close due to the oddest statue goal celebration.

Both were fantastic. Id have to rank Doyley's as a close third as totally unexpected.
