    ‘Upcoming’

    No, the English is ‘forthcoming’
As is, “go forth and multiply..”

Swimming against the tide with this one but I still bristle at all the "Amercanisms" (is that a word?) that are taking over the English language. I think I am the only person left who still goes to the cinema to watch a film, rather than taking a trip to the movies.

I still go to the pictures!

Also annoying is the Americanism of theatres for cinemas, particularly when promounced 'th-ee-ay-ders'

Even though I lived there for 15 years and even though I know many Americanisms are actually an older and purer English than we use today in the UK, I too dislike a lot of them. I still ring somebody rather than call them and TV programmes aren't shows and they come in series not seasons. Seasons are reserved for football, (but it's fine if they want to call it soccer).

Especially if you pronounce it in the Irish way.

Oddly in one lab I worked in we used Irish/Joackanese pronunciation to differentiate between ion and iron (pronounced eye-RON) also film (thin/thick layer of a substance on a substrate) and fil-UM (video/spectroscopic recording of film formation). Gosh weren't we exciting.

You are most certainly not alone.
I spend a large amount of time with children aged 6-11, correcting such irritating uses:
"Movies", "I'm good" instead of "I'm well thank you and how are you?" "mall," "cookies".
On and on they go,like a nun's knickers.

These really annoy me as well , but in particular the ‘corporate’ ones which people use at work .

‘Touching base’ , reaching out’ (why can’t you just say contacting !

‘Talking to’ .. no talking about !

and the worst one of all I don’t have the bandwidth .. what ??? People actually use these phrases at my office .

So. The Spear-Danes in days gone by
and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness.

I know that is the usual phraseology but I’m not sure it’s correct.

‘Couldn’t’ plus ‘less’ = two negatives, therefore signifying that you do care.

Less is simply an adjective here and not subject to negation. Only verbs can be negated in a double negative.

When you are having a conversation with someone and they say 'well I'll let you get on' - they might as well just say 'I can't be farking bothered talking to you any more' and be done with it
