Watford FC 2-1 Crystal Palace - 16/03/2019 - FA Cup Sixth Round

Discussion in 'Match Day' started by wfcSinatra, Mar 13, 2019.

  1. Can't think of a 'keeper I'd rather have in goal if it comes to penalties, as much as I believe Foster has the edge over-all.

I feel very confident about Gomes.

I remember lamenting the selection of Pantilimon in the 2016 semi final, and sure enough the Palace winner came from a relatively tame header that Gomes surely saves with ease. Well now we're in a position where fans are lamenting the possible selection of the back up keeper again, only now the back up keeper is Gomes. That's progress. I have no problem with it, Gomes is still excellent. He's no Pantilimon.

Charlie Nicholas prediction on SSN is a classic. I have no issue with anyone thinking we will lose bit at least give sound reasoning...

Apparently we don’t have a lot of goals in us (highest scorers outside Top 6). And whilst he recognises we are a better team, apparently the small chance that we might kick Zaha a bit is enough for him to claim a 1-2 victory for Palace.

How are these people paid for their opinions?

He said we lose concentration just trying to kick Zaha - now fair enough in the past but we've not lose in 3 games against them so we must have been doing something right.

No mention of how Palace a good away side and score goals on the road which would be a more fair reason to back them to awin.

Happy with Gomes but put Foster on the bench as Gomes does have a tendency to get injured

I equally love and hate these sort of games, so I'm going to get piddled and enjoy the spectacle.

Is the Wetherspoons the only early house in Watford that will allow away fans in on Saturday?

I'm pretty sure you can go to any pub on the highstreet to be fair, I've never seen any pub turn away an away fan but I may be wrong. If you're not in colours then no one will know anyway.

You'd need to put on a cultured Herts accent though, none of this Sarf Lundun cockney nonsense.

Nice one. I assumed that the Wetherspoons would be the only pub opening early. The O'Neills starts serving at 10 by all accounts.

I'm not sure I can manage a Herts accent. I'm going to pretend that I'm mute.

I had to reread to check you weren't being sarcastic.

Why do you support Watford and not man city? Man city are better. They won more, play more entertaining football and you could get more coverage as a fan.

Supporting a group of men you've never met kicking a ball is entirely sentimental.

It’s bad enough that we have to play this irrelevant tinpot small club twice a season, now it’s third game.

I can only imagine this type of game doing wonders for their budget. Must feel great to be palace fan right now. Coming to the mighty Vicarage Road in the lofty heights of Hertfordshire, a day I’m sure they will tell their grandkids about. What an exciting season for them, having three Cup finals against a team they consider their main rivals and aspire to be like. A massive time in history to be a palace fan.

I just hope their fans enjoy the day, take it all in and take mental pictures of being inside a proper stadium as their team is easily brushed aside.

A very easy win for watford as palace worry about staying in the league.

    Watford 5-1 palace

  16. If you watch carefully you can see Stripey Nigels with their laser measures running around the stand sizing up the place for RightMove. They can't help it. It's in their blood. Exciting open plan property, superb views to the south....

O'Neill's website says they open at 9am.. though their Facebook page says 8. Probably 9. There's also another Wetherspoons on the Parade that opens at 8 called The Columbia Press. It's next door to the Walkabout. Lastly The Wellington Arms near the Junction opens at 9 according to Google.. though their FB page says 11.

I recall a 1-5 win at your place in the 03/04 season. Watford didn't play that bad, but we seemed to score every time we attacked. I'll have some more of that on Saturday.

Thank you for the information, Stevohorn. Much appreciated. We're arriving early so will try all of them. The dry away end, plus the early kick off means we have to double our efforts to cope with watching Palace.

Blimey some Palace fans (not you Jimmy) really are relying on VAR getting our players sent off or Zaha winning a penalty.

What about the other 10 players in your team!

As your away from proves you're not a one man team and don't need to rely on penalties/red cards.

With all this sentiment around Gomes, it’s nailed on for Foster to get the nod ahead of Gomes, only for a Foster howler to lose us the game. FML

Zaha is the hip, happening break dancer with all the moves, the other lads just stand around in their tracksuits trying to look cool whilst nodding their heads to the incessant beat of that poxy drum.

Well he is due a bad game...

I wouldn't totally trust VAR anyway - sure it could have sent Capoue off but the ref was 2 yards away and thought it was a yellow so would he have changed his mind?

I don't like VAR. Human error is part of football and provokes discussion down the pub after the match as you grizzle about what a complete whopper the ref was etc.
Watching some of the high profile champions league games recently, VAR seems to be used to either sway a decision towards the bigger sides, or to stiff the little sides.
And it kills a goal celebration too as you have to wait for Trevor & Norman in Andy Townsend's tactics truck to give the Roman emperor style thumb up/down on each effort. It's not for me.

Rumour has it that Zaha is making a serious attempt at winning the "Fallon d'Floor" this year after coming close several times.

Harry The Hornet should do the presentation.

I support watford because I was born in Watford General hospital and not some god forsaken shythole in Manchester.

You may note that it's Watford I support, and not heurelho gomes. All I want is success for the team I support, and picking gomes just because he's been a good servant for the club will jeopardise that success.

Therefore I hope the cold, rational decision is taken and he's plonked on the bench with the other also-rans.

Like any defeat I’ve experienced as a watford fan, it has been eradicated from my memory. Watford have been the only team to remain “the invincibles” since 1985.
