I'm quite partial to a cheap charity shop or 2nd hand DVD box set that I binge watch and then donate back to a charity shop.

I picked up Tru Calling a month or so ago and just finished it. It stars the delicious Eliza Dusku (Buffy/Angel, Dollhouse and Arnie's daughter in True Lies) as a morgue worker who gets asked by the dead to save them by doing a groundhog day thing. I missed it when it was first aired.

It's a really interesting concept which halfway through the 1st series introduced a counter character (bloke from Beverly Hills 90210) who's job it was to try to stop her for the good of causality. Unfortunately the series got canned halfway through the 2nd season so it's ends fairly abrupty with a lot of loose ends which made me sad. but worth a catchup if people are into sci fi type stuff.

There's been a couple of attempts to reboot the same sort of concept.
The most recent being Reverie (with Semine from Person of Interest) where she goes into peoples computer driven dreams - which again was unfortunately cancelled early at the end of the first season, and another one called Stitchers which is a bit more teen targeted, but decent and unfortunately cancelled at the end of 3 short seasons.

Why is stuff I like always cancelled early.

I see Arrow has been cancelled - I gave up after seson 2 when he wanted to keep his identity a secret, then proceeded to tell half the city who was.

Although, give me a car battery, clotted cream and Emily Bett-Rickards and I could have alot of fun.

Wonder how it'll end. I've given up and then gone back to it multiple times over the years. Think I gave up again a few episodes into season 6 and haven't seen anything since then. Same with The Flash, think I gave up after the season 3 bad guy was revealed to be yet another fast villain.

    Think it is on 4od.

Watched the first episode in the second series of Derry Girls last night. Tries a little too hard I feel but a fairly enjoyable watch nonetheless.

Watching After Life. I like it. Very sad and dark in places, with some funny bits intertwined.

Yep I would’ve done the same, but I had a family gathering yesterday so got home at 10pm and started watching it then had to go to bed eventually. Watched four in a row then just finished off the final two now. Really really good stuff and very thought provoking in parts.

Yes it is. As is "Deutschland 85" and the, frankly, good awful 'Robot Chicken' - although their 'Star Wars' specials have the far too infrequent good/funny gag.

So did I, today in fact. Thought it became a bit flat and samey towards the middle it had a feel good factor by the end. Some may be put off that it's written by and starring Ricky Gervais and honestly, that's fair enough. I was his biggest fan (by that I mean of course I liked his shows) at the time of The Office and Extras. I laughed out loud at his podcasts and laughed out more at his live shows....until Humanity I think it was. When he crossed the line from being a perceived terwat to an actual terwat. I'm forever grateful in one of his stand up shows talking about a gay rights march to get the age of consent for homosexuality down to 16 (from 21), the same as heterosexuality. Gervais noted that there weren't many 16yr olds in the march and it mostly consisted of 40 year old middle aged men.
That said, he has become a twatish parody of himself yet still I do continue to love a lot of his work. After Life sort of hovers my opinion....(which after Derek is quite substantial).

We binged that in a couple of weeks, the first series is one of the funniest few hours of telly out there. There’s a bit more pathos as it goes on but still bloody funny.

Anyone else think the new episode of Partridge last night was really weak?

The CPR with the dummy and the IRA song at the end were funny but I thought it was a bit wishy washy on the whole.

The whole premise for this series is really lame.

The Sky Mid Morning Matters ones were brilliant.

    What’s different?

Partridge doesn’t need slapstick. MMM reveals the inner Alan. The BBC one showcases a buffoon.

Alan can’t relate to women. Sidekick Simon is a splendid nuanced fragile foil. The BBC woman who is always in the right has little point.

The Partridge character is bottomlessly deep. Coogan lives him for a week to understand every Alan reaction. Small scenes give beautifully framed vignettes of pure Alan. The BBC version treats him like a 2 Ronnies pastiche. Long, laboured sketches.

In sum, the plodding Beeb want a 70s sitcom Alan. A sort of Frank Spencer who is fighting back but rather unsuccessfully.

    Just not funny.

Always good to analyse the humour.

Offensive language & nudity from the beginning would be ideal.

This is THE thing on the New York stage.

    Tix going for a grand!

Same actress as tv. Didn’t pay the grand & indeed haven’t watched the prog.

    Worth all the fuss?
