Just goes to show what a visionary Elton was. Back in 1978 on the A single Man album he had the Watford players as backing vocalists on one of the tracks.

The track was called Georgia and they were singing "Oh Georgia take me to your southlands..."

The club really was way ahead of it's time back then.

The issues around this are manifold. What will the MLS make of it ? What of the season ticket holders whose game is moved abroad and cannot afford to attend ? What games will be televised and will it be the usual culprits thereby further increasing their exposure to the detriment of the rest of the league.

I think it is high time fans made a concerted effort to wrest power back from corporations who treat matches and supporters like commodities that are replaceable and expendable running roughshod consistently time after time over their opinions. It can work as with the ridiculous 39th game idea attempted by Scudamore.

Player unveilings often come across as rather staid dull affairs. Not so with Villareal.

What next ? Players parachuting into the stadium ?

Carzola, after all his operations and medical procedures, looks more like Frankenstein's monster coming to life than a footballer being introduced by his new club. Bizarre.

As for taking games abroad... a filthy idea. A national league should play its games in that country, nowhere else.
If the governing bodies and/or individual FA's want to reach out to a wider audience for ever more TV revenue then cut a European cup competition and introduce a world club cup competition. Or, as is more likely, let the Madrid's, Manchester's, Munich's etc., form a world league and just make the circus a truly global affair. I personally wouldn't watch just as I rarely watch European club competitions because they now exist more in the interest of the so called major sides than for the competition itself.

    Bah! Humbug.

It's not actually an unveiling. With his injury record they need to keep him inside a capsule filled with inert gas.

    Like some prototype cryogenic procedure.

The impact slightly marred by the struggle with opening the door.

After conjuring an elite athlete from thin air you would think that door opening should be meat & drink to a capable illusionist.

Barcelona roll over Sevilla 4-2 in the top of the table clash. Messi out for three weeks with a fractured arm. Real Madrid and Lopetegui will be parting company soon no doubt.

Sticking with Santi Solari IBB. ITV4 will be showing one La Liga game each weekend until the end of the season. Tonight Levante versus Circus Madrid.

According to the BBC article, it implies that he doesn't speak Spanish. He's lived there for nearly 6 years and still relatively young when he went there. He should be pretty fluent by now.

Huesca look like they might be making a fight of staying up, at last - 3 wins in their last 5 games and closing the gap at the bottom.

Opening game of the season starts with Bilbao defeating Barcelona 1-0. Veteran Aduriz pops up as a substitute to score a contender for goal of the season.

A tremendously likeable club who have not bought anyone in the summer but once more as is usual are promoting their youth players. The club strip is copied from Southampton a society member having brought these kits back to Bilbao as they matched the city's colours way back in 1910 and a junior branch in Madrid that later turned into Athletico de Madrid with the same strip colours.

Osasuna drew 0-0 with Eibar. I watched to see two players. Our own Pervis Estupinan and Chimy Avila. The latter was disappointing and played listlessly and without aggression and technique which was unusual. Estupinan on the other hand made several crunching tackles and intercepts and was rock solid down his flank. Seeing as we're struggling down the left flank we need to keep an eye on him and see how he carries on against bigger threats than Eibar. Foulquier on the right flank as well.

Forgot about Pervis - he's been in Spain three years now so should have been able to receive a work permit. Could we recall him?

He's on a two year loan with a recall option after the first.
His Watford contract is due to finish in June 2021, the same time his loan ends.

Shame he can't be recalled sooner, though he is still only 21.

I do get the general impression that the club's sucession planning with players has been a bit "off" - there appears to be too much of a gap between the age of the first team players and that of the prospects which are perhaps intended to be in line to replace them. We had the oldest average lineup in the Prem last season, and probably do so again this one. Meanwhile, most of our upcoming players are still too young and inexperienced to replace them, or haven't developed as hoped, despite the fact that we could do with more competition now.

Luka Romero made history with Mallorca as the youngest player to debut in La Liga.

    https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/06/25/luka-romero-mallorca-argentina-mexico-la-liga-youngest-player

Fantastic dribbler, passer and intelligent for his age with an eye for goal. Creates out of nothing with the speed to escape defenders and finds space between the lines with ease. The only big weakness is his one footedness and due to his small stature although he plenty of growing today winning the ball in the air. Reminiscent of Messi at times he has already shone in the Youth European League when playing against Manchester City and for Argentina u15 in the CONMEBOL tournament last year. Already called up to the u17 and Mexico and Spain can only look on as he has already declared his sole ambition is to become a senior international for Argentina.
