  2. Everton were having this debate a couple of weeks ago so it's an interesting point to raise.

Moreso for them as it was Liverpool of course but it's an interesting debate an a good question to raise.

I personally couldn't stand Liverpool winning the title as their fans would be unbearable (more than usual) so although a win would be absolutely brilliant, I won't mourn a loss as much as I usually would.

In an environment where inevitably the bigger clubs have the more success and horrifically arrogant supporters you take what you can get. If that means a former “giant” of the game going yet another season without the title then unfortunately that is probably as good as it gets. That it is the scousers is quality. TBH, supporters of these clubs are all a bit of a drag so and extra misery is a bonus.

Hell, the Man City fans didn’t take long to “out-arrogant” their neighbours so it comes with the territory I guess.

I don't really know any Liverpool fans. I live in the South, there are people at work who say they support them but never go and certainly aren't Liverpudlian. If they were smug Id just remind them that they aren't from Liverpool and never go to football matches. I don't see the problem. City always winning is boring.

The boredom of City winning it for another pales in comparison to the numerous Netflix documentaries, special reports on the news, awarding of city keys to Jordan Henderson, the carting out of Steven Gerrard to hold the trophy he never won, the mention of 'the champions' for the next forever number of years whenever it comes to a Liverpool title victory.

    It's just not worth it.

You do have a point. But lets just get it out the way. Otherwise itll just be the same build up next year.

Are you a bit sore because we walloped you 5-o? I'll let you off after what we did to you on Wed. Cor, I'm so proud of myself for that.

Was so terribly funny when Gerrard tripped himself up to hand Chelsea that goal at Anfield a few years ago which effectively blew their title chances.
Even funnier than when he came on as a HT sub vs Man U and got sent off in about 45 seconds flat for a horrendous challenge.

Me too. Really enjoy watching them. But I don't want them to win any trophies. Nor the other Mancs, because of their sense of entitlement.

I don't feel the same about Liverpool, as for most of my football-watching life Liverpool, along with Ipswich, were the country's best run club on and off the field. (Both have of course slipped badly more recently)

I meant seventh of course, not second.

  13. Should we do an Eddie and hope to hold out with 18% posession, nick one at the death, or go kamikaze like we did at Liverpool?

I’m okay with the build up every year when the payoff is them failing. Recent history says that we should just go along with that.

This thread is just setup for those few fans who say something along the lines of ‘was a free hit today, but at least Aguero scored 5 and is the captain on my fantasy team’.

I’ve never met someone who has won a fantasy football league. Just go to the bookies and bet on it...far more enjoyable.

Strangely a guy who worked in my office many moons ago won the Daily Mirror Fantasy Footie and, I think, £50,000. He was only in his early twenties so jacked in the job to go travelling.

As for Bournemouth tactics GOBE, it very nearly worked for them but to pretty much not get out of your own half for 90 mins watching the other team play football? No thanks. They gave us a bit of a lesson at the Vic but at least we gave it a go and had them on the back foot for the last 15. May lead to a 3 goal plus mauling but I’d hate for us to go out with no ambition to score a goal.

I think it makes sense to try to be tight and play on the break with a bit of pace but I was amazed at Eddie's approach. Especially after they went a goal behind. No shots and no corners in 90 mins when you were behind for about 30 mins is just embarrassing.

  18. It would be a bit galling to miss out on 7th on GD!

  19. Siohmy

True. For some reason though, and despite our generally decent defence this season, I still wouldn’t trust us not to concede 3+ goals even if we stuck 11 behind the ball.

It would be nice to be a bit more defensive but carry a threat but based on our Anfield lineup Gracia is very much, we’ll play our game and see how it goes.

There must be a place for Cleverley in this type of game. Maybe sacrifice Pereyra based on his recent output. Then revert to plan B if we concede. I would hate to see us refusing to chase a game at 1-0 down simply for fear of damaging our GD but happy we are as dull as dishwater while it's 0-0.

If we won, then we would be written into history as the team that scuppered man citys title charge in 2019. Which is about all we can hope to achieve in the premier league.

    Ok, stop it.

This was never intended to be the matchday thread - I gave my word that I wouldn't post on the matchday thread or shoutbox, so talking formations and tactics on here is ripping the pi$$.

  23. The mancs rightly have a sense of entitlement. They've at least won it in recent history. Liverpool have a sense of entitlement despite not winning it in 30 years.

Dear god can no one see the horror if they did?!

I did not feel confident at all when we went to Liverpool, but for some strange reason I have an inkling that we might just steal this one.
Probably wrong, but I just feel that if we set up correctly, and with Cholevas back, and if Capoue and Decoure can hold fast in midfield, we might just nick it.
    Everything crossed!!

Just for his sincere hatred of them, I want @Smudger to make the match day thread. His comments on the reverse fixture were very honest and quite humerous to some degree.

People's feelings towards Liverpool are a fundamental part of the 'are they an aching simpleton?' questionnaire when you meet a new person, particularly useful at work functions.

    Q1 did you vote leave?
Q2 do you think James Corden is funny?
Q3 do you hope Liverpool win the league?

3 yes answers and in 100% of cases the person is a ******* idiot and not worth your time.

This reduces to 99% for 2 yeses, and 98% for 1 yes.

Wanting us to lose is akin to being an Everton fan. This is not cool.

Wanting us to lose is beyond ridiculous, as for the city/Liverpool thing quite frankly I dislike city a lot more. They mugged us off with Sancho, their fans are plastic... Liverpool ain’t done nothing to us, decent club and stops the Prem getting boring city have arrogant fans and think they are the best club in the world. Also we need a result to help beat Wolves to 7th a great achievement.

I have to admit, in August I never thought us, Wolves and Wet Spam would be fighting for the coverted "best of the rest" crown.

Just goes to show what Javi has done in pure motivation to the squad. He knows we need at least two more players in obvious positions abd I hope Gino can get the right balance over the summer.

You can’t know any Liverpool fans then...

Liverpool mugged us off for Barnes (worth £50m), they have an abundance of fans who have never been to a game or even seen one but seem to populate office space up and down the country telling anyone who will listen about Anfield and famous European nights - which are basically nights at the Library with You’ll Never Walk Alone book-ending the 90 mins of action. They have not won the league in 30 years yet you’d think they’ve had over 30 years of dominance.

When you add that their ‘loveable’ manager is nothing more than a whinger who has regularly choked in the big moments and is starting to blame the wind and ballboys for his players shortcomings - then no.

Wanting us to lose? No chance. But Liverpool should not win the PL under any circumstances.

Ok relax and let's regress back to your childhood.. back.. back.. back..
Did your mother play "Ferry cross the Mersey" endlessly to you as a form of punishment? Did your dad have an affair with Cilla Black? Did someone steal the wheels off your pram during an early visit to Anfield?

Seriously since you started a couple of threads of how you were gonna get at the Liverpool fans prior to us playing them i saw you had a problem.
I think the majority view in the football world is that Liverpool winning the league will be insufferable. I'll include myself in that because living in Norway they are so dominant here (together with Man United) that it gets nauseating.
But when you want your own team to lose to help in it not happening.. and for that to potentially hinder us from playing in Europe for only the second time in our history.. you've crossed over the line.

Perhaps i'm getting old but i just can't hate any other club as much as that. In fact i don't really "hate" any of them... bar the obvious one.
