Wanting Watford to lose

I've never found myself in this position before, but I've just realised that on Saturday I shall be genuinely rooting for Man City.

If the game realistically meant anything to us, of course it would be a different matter - but my hatred of Liverpool runs nearly as deeply as my love of Watford, and in this nothing game (for us) I really hope we lose to put another nail in Liverpool's title hopes.

Has anyone else ever felt this way?

Of course, out of respect for you all I shall not post on the match thread or in shoutbox.

    I can't quite believe it.

I don’t mean to be rude but I think your attitude is quite sad. I too really want Man City to pip Liverpool for the title but nothing would ever trump me wanting Watford to win every game they play.

I don't think you're rude, and if truth be known I'm not especially proud of how I feel.

It feels quite petty and spiteful, but a lot about being a football fan is who you hate as much as who you support, and I can't express how much I detest Liverpool. Always have, right from early childhood.

You could always offer to write City's match preview for them.

In typical Watford styje, we'll go there now and win. A point would be a great result.

We are due an upset, though running the outcomes through my machine learning algorithm 1000 times a second still has not yet come up with any scenario where we don't get spanked.

The one game of recent years where I've been least gutted about a loss was the home defeat against Leicester when they were gunning for the league and we were pretty safe in mid-table, but that certainly doesn't mean I wanted them to win. I suppose if you offered me a defeat then in exchange for beating them at home for the next three seasons I'd probably have taken it though ha!

The fact us losing will shyt on liverpool will make defeat a little easier to take I must admit, but hoping we lose? WTF.

How is it a nothing game for us when 7th place might get us into europe anyway?

Difference is wanting us to lose and not caring that we lost.

Only time for me when was Todgers was in charge...couldn't stand him as he thought Liam 'no creativity sideways passing' Bridcutt was the answer to our probems.

Not worried about the result when we play L*t*n but otherwise always want us to win.

Maybe it's more this than actually wanting us to lose. It's a fine line though.

TBF when I lived near Reading and they were close to a UEFA spot and we were already relegated I was disappointed that we went and won 2-0 at their place to completely scupper their hopes with no impact on our season.

  18. As long as my main team Manchester United win I don’t mind what happens in this game.

I always want us to win, otherwise I know I'll be annoyed, pissed off and generally a miserable git off the back of a defeat. I prefer being happy than pissed off to be honest, so tend to back us every time we play.

I was at that one too - i felt no such compassion and enjoyed the game all the more for their grief - living in maidenhead could not be happy for them

Similar years back - at Swansea - last game of the season they needed a win to go up - we were 4 up at half time - got v nasty - had to run all the way to Swansea station

Yep, ******* on other teams chips is tremendous, no matter who they are. There's no better feeling really. It makes it all the sweeter if we do it when we're crap.

Man City play lovely football, the best I've seen for years, but who would want a club and owners that have engaged in every form of off-field cheating to win the Prem or anything else?

Nope would never want my team to lose. I honestly couldn't care less who wins the league and if by some miracle we did win there it would improve our chances of finishing 7th

But we didn't like it when Wednesday did it to us.

******* on Bournemouth, Everton and now Leicester (sorry Filbert) is fine, but not on clubs against which we have no grudge

The only explicit time I’d possibly want us to lose is if we do not have anything on the game and, by losing, we’d deny those knuckle draggers up the road something. This is my ideal, “ok, actually hope we lose” scenario. Hopefully will never happen but if we are in the same division and L*t*n needed to better another teams result to avoid relegation. We go out and lose to that other team 6-0 thus sending them down. In a perfect world it would be by a couple on goal difference as well.

Definitely hope we win, it would be a great victory, and would be a wonderful boost to us finishing second.
I couldn't care less who wins the title really, although if I had to choose, I think I would probably choose Liverpool.
Anyone who calls themselves a supporter of a club, and wants them to loose is beyond belief.
This thread just has to be a wind up, certainly succeeded in getting me a bit agitated anyway.

    Always Hornets to win.

I cannot imagine the mentality of wanting Watford to lose, or even accepting it! Watford to win. Every. Time!!!!

Except when I disagree with the line up, when I've turned on the manager or when we're playing so abjectly that I hope we get trounced, just to punish our players.

The only joy I would get if Man city beat us at the weekend is I have Man City as one of my teams in an annual prediction game I play, and coincidently Liverpool are my other PL team in this game.

Therefore it's a kind of win win situation for me whoever wins the match, though if I could chose the outcome I would prefer WFC to win of course, preferably 1-0 so not to much damage will be done to City in my side game, and likewise if City win.
