Would laugh if Man city got dropped points or a transfer ban. Maybe they could let us win if we meet them in the fa cup.

This was always known that City offered financial assistance to the family, now there is proof of bribing the agent.
    Won't help us though.

If proper authorities were in charge of the game - what a position we’d be in. But the reality is, Man City won’t get punished at all. Or they won’t get punished in a manner than is relatable to their wealth.

If proved, they’ll get a fine. Which they can pay...obviously. Or a transfer ban...which they clearly won’t suffer from.

The punishment for running roughshod over clubs in your own country should be severe - points deduction and not being allowed to register players (youth or otherwise).

If we got any recompense now it would be through gritted teeth, the authorities always bow down to the mighty big 6, in fact they are set up to let them run roughshod over the smaller clubs. It would be their view that Watford are not respecting the right of man city to do as they please and we'd be fined for insolence.

    Per the BBC:

"In April 2017, Liverpool were fined £100,000 by the Premier League and handed a two-year ban on signing academy players from other clubs for offering inducements to a 12-year-old academy player at Stoke City."

That must really hurt a team like Liverpool or Man City!

I think fines should be based on how rich a club is and levied in % terms, then it would be a fairer system.

Also I wouldn't stop at football when it comes to fines, I think all fines imposed to whoever for whatever should be based on a % of income and not a fixed amount, then all organisations or individuals would be equally punished for their misdemeanour's.

The trouble is, how would the football authorities even begin to find/agree a figure on which to base the percentage? What do they take into account to work out how 'rich' a club is? Watford's turnover is huge but as we've recently seen we also made a substantial loss on paper.

Normally I'd agree, but Man City are the only club that can save football by keeping Liverpool from winning the league.

I'd be happy with a nice financial settlement.

A bit like financial institutions (at least in theory). I work for an Insurance firm. I work in IT before you think I’m really boring....oh never mind. We are, both as a company and inidividuals, liable for many areas of regulation. For example, if the individual does not report suspicious, potentially money laundering acrivities, the company and the individual can be liable. In very extreme cases this can mean large fines and jail times.

I think the problem lies in an industry, and it is that, which has failed to recognise it has become a business and still works as though it was just a sport. Hence the piss poor punishments, vague rules, make it up as you go along nature. The fact that some crimes exploit young people is especially heinous. They could probably fill a prison with crimes committed by agents alone.

Every large organisation has its quota of incompetents and its devious self-servers. I wonder if, however, you are being a bit generous to them: Are there really a load of bumbling old fools in charge, or is it a good cover? There is a sh1t-load of money involved in the modern game. Effectively, the clubs pay the FA and the FA is supposed to regulate them. Do I detect a conflict of interests here?
My take on human society tells me that if there is money, power or gain to be made from an action, no matter how evil the action, there is somebody out there who will do it.

Lol. Yep. And Conflict of Interest is another module you have to read up on at my company. I suspect there are no such requirements at the FA or Premier League!

Man City have been doing this for along time. A couple of years ago, they tried to persuade Jermaine Pennant’s nephew to leave Leicester’s academy, by offering to buy his mum a new £350,000 house in Manchester.

Buy the whole Moss Side estate for that and have a spare quarter of a million to put a Trump wall around it.

Restitution. Where there has been an illegal transaction the contract should be made null and void and the parties returned to the original position. I wouldn't mind Jadon Sancho turning out for us.

So he spent 3 years old n out academy, moved to man city's academy for two years after allegedly illegal payments and then was sold for 7m.

Man city should not profit from illegal dealings, fines ought to be at least 7m minus the pittance paid to us. £66,000 probably doesn't cover the lunch buffet for a player at man city.

3/5 of that 7m should go to the club he was at 3/5 of the time under normal circumstances. The Garfield academy boarding school was the first (only?) of it's kind in England and to say man city are repsonsivlr for developing him into the player he was is laughable

In this case man city should receive a fine of the rest.

This is impirtimp on proncoppr more, a few mollipm is not game changing to us anymore but theany chamipchampi clubs who hwt players poached are.

    From The Times:

Watford could take Manchester City to arbitration for a “loss of opportunity” regarding the sale of Jadon Sancho following allegations that City made an illegal payment to his family. The Times understands that the club have written to the FA asking to be kept informed about its investigation into whether City made payments to Sancho’s family and his agent, Emeka Obasi, before the then 14-year-old left Watford’s Academy to move to the Etihad Stadium four years ago.

Watford have not made an independent complaint to the FA, but have asked to be kept abreast of developments and any conclusion as the outcome could materially affect them. If City’s alleged illegal payments are proven they would constitute a multiple breach of FA rules, which may have cost Watford tens of millions of pounds. The club are reserving the right to take City to arbitration. Both FA and Fifa rules state that agents are not allowed to represent players until the year in which they turn 16, while it is prohibited to make any financial inducement to a young player’s family. Section K of the FA Rules provides that any dispute between two or more “participants” shall automatically be referred to and resolved by arbitration under the FA Rules. The revelation of Watford’s letter may increase tensions in the boardroom when the two clubs meet at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.

Watford received just £200,000 in compensation when Sancho joined City in 2015 as part of a set tariff determined by the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan — £25,000 for each year he spent at the club’s Category 2 Academy — but he is now valued at over £100 million. The 18-year-old left City for Borussia Dortmund for £8 million in 2017 and after making a huge impact in the Bundesliga has established himself in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain both considering making a bid for him this summer.

Watford are prepared to take City to arbitration if it is proven that Sancho’s decision to leave them was influenced by an unlawful payment from another club. The Times yesterday revealed the existence of City’s internal document from 2014 proposing to make a payment of £225,000 to the player’s family for “family support”. It is not known whether the payment was made. German magazine Der Spiegel have previously alleged that City paid Sancho’s agent, Obasi, £200,000 connected to the move, but tried to conceal the payment as an agreement for him to work for the club as a scout.

The FA has confirmed they are investigating the allegations, but declined to comment on Watford’s letter. City refused to comment on the specifics of the Sancho case, but issued a statement yesterday saying that accusations of financial irregularities were “entirely false”.

We all knew at the time, what City did was wrong morally, but it looked as though there was little we could do about it. Hopefully, their wrongdoing will be proved and we receive a windfall through arbitration. If there is a way to get something out of this, I'm pretty sure the Pozzo's will find a way.

Not just for Watford, but for the good of the game and as a win for the smaller club, this could turn out to be quite an important milestone case.
