  1. It's important we keep them sweet otherwise they will never pay £40M for Ken Sema

Surely you’ve got more to say about the referee/non-given penalty than that?! ;)

Most of their shots were long range desperation shots that went miles over the bar. And I think 2 or 3 of their shots on target came in the scramble leading to their goal.

I had a lovely dream. I woke up and checked my phone at midnight and it said we won 5-1.

Now to check for real and get my booing hat out of the cupboard.

Unfortunately the best quality screenshot I can get before MoTD shows, but just to reiterate, the contact for the not given foul is initially just outside the box/before the line; therefore it 100% should not have been a penalty, whether you think it was a foul or not:

Deulofeu will get the headlines from Watford quarters but Deeney gets enough stick when he’s poor/anonymous, that he should be praised when he does well. Battles superbly for the first and adds the assist and then wins the ball back and plays an excellent pass for the hat-trick goal. Couple that with two goals for himself and it’s worthy of highlighting.

I don't understand how anyone can seriously argue it's not a foul by Janmaat? Murphy is moving towards the ball, which is in the immediate vicinity, and Janmaat launches himself from the wrong side, impeding Murphy completely (by stopping his getting the ball and taking him to ground). Murphy doesn't have to be in control of the ball to be fouled.

Yes at home to Blackpool when we were losing 2-0 at half time and ended up scoring 7 in the second half!
This was our last hat trick previous to last night, (Troy home to Bournemouth before that)

Yup - when the Blackpool fan said he gave his ‘goal alert’ vibrating phone to his missus so at least she could get pleasure from the game.

Janmaat made his lunge first putting himself between murphy and the ball, murphy went through the lunge. I think it probably ia a foul but the point is theres enough in it to put doubt in the refs mind.

  20. Right at that moment imo it's a 50 -50, the ball had been kicked forward and Murphy is chasing after it, but doesn't have a right to it. Janmaat is closer to the ball, he doesn't have to get out the way or ensure there is no contact.

It's at this point Murphy decides to throw himself across Janmaat to buy a pen.

What does it matter? Even if it was a foul, it's not a pen.

It’s a foul, absolutely 100% a foul. Not a penalty as the contact is outside the box but is definitely a foul

    Exactly.

I can agree that the initial contact was just outside whilst the majority of contact was well inside - so a penalty is questionable - but if that’s not a foul, then nothing is. Trying to claim different just makes us look biased beyond reason. Janmaat’s immediate reaction says all you need to know - he knew he’d fouled him and immediately protested innocence.

All of which would be perfectly fair points if Janmaat was simply standing his ground or running naturally towards the ball. But he's not.

He's committed to a tackle and lunged for the ball when he has absolutely zero chance of winning it from his starting position. The ball might be nearer to him in that screenshot but Murphy was the only player who was ever going to get it. And, for what it's worth, I don't even think Murphy's playing for it. He's leaning slightly towards Janmaat as if he's expecting to roll him and then run onto the pass. Instead he gets slide tackled from his blind side.

We win 5-1 away and all the focus is on a penalty incident. Warnock has made this the biggest talking point but I think his management was poor in the lead up to the match and has been poor since.

In the lead up he was saying it was impossible for a side like Cardiff to win 3 on the bounce in the Premier League.....and yes that was proved.....but what message does that give his players? That was a terrible thing to say pre-match.

At half time, if you think you've had a major injustice from the referee, then that should be your team talk. Use something like that to motivate your players.

Seriously, a penalty doesn't mean goal. This is controversial, but had Cardiff been given a penalty and missed it, how deflated they would have been after that? It can work both ways. Instead of a situation potentially motivating a side, it could have demoralised them.

Football is a combination of small events. Yes, they may have got to half time at 1-1, but you have the look at the game holistically. We were by far the better team on the day. Had it been 1-1 at half time, then I would say we've let them off the hook.

When the final score is 5-1, you cannot possibly go back to a penalty incident as your post-match team talk. The gap in score line is far too wide. Had there been a red card, then yes, that can effect the rest of a match, but not giving a penalty is similar to disallowing a goal controversially. It's only one goal, so for his side to collapse so completely in the second half has no bearing on the penalty incident at all.

Huge win, with so much to be happy about.

    Javi deserves massive credit for
not meandering towards the finish line as other coaches have in seasons past. Delivered PL safety and so much more.

I'd love us to play a few youngsters now and reward their patience - I don't even see such an approach jeopardising our push for Europe.

Too many good performances to list - suffice to say Deulofeu was just different class. Even though he had every right to wheel away and run down the touchline on his own, his goal celebrations were all about thanking the team. Great to see.

With regards to the merits of this particular challenge. It was a foul and with the naked eye, in real time, it would have been no surprise had a penalty been given. Next season with VAR, it would be interesting to see if a penalty is awarded or whether it's given on the edge of the box.

Simon Hooper, doesn't seem to be very good. We've had him 3 times this season. He's disallowed a perfectly good Southampton goal, not given Watford a stonewall penalty and now not given Cardiff a penalty when most referees would have. Had he given a free kick on the edge of the box I think those analysing the game would have said what a fantastic piece of officiating to have made that call.

In the Cardiff match wasn't there a couple of shouts from Watford for handball in the box at the other end as well? Not sure I've seen it reported, but I was told we could have been given something also.

But at the end of the day, the score line was far too emphatic for this penalty shout to be a major talking point.

Come on - we did exactly the same as him on this very forum after the 0-3 v Liverpool when Will Hughes should have had a penalty at 0-0. Would have changed the game, momentum etc......

It was a penalty. If we didn't get it we would be screaming penalty. So its a penalty.
