Couldn't help but pop onto our friends' forum over at Everton to see how the £4m news went down. Lead balloon is quite an apt phrase. However, they are also annoyed that we won so convincingly and are 7 points clear of them.

They are basically saying, because we won 5-1, if Everton do not beat Cardiff in their next match he's got to be fired there and then. Personally I think it will be his last game if Everton play poorly and lose again.

I don't think their fans would tolerate a loss at Cardiff after we destroyed them. The thing is, we all know if a team gets hammered at home, there usually is a reaction. Cardiff will be determined to put on some sort of performance to eradicate the 1-5. Look at the run Burnley went on after they lost 1-5 at home (ironically to Everton).

Because of Watford's result. it places greater pressure on Silva to get a win. I'll be watching that game with a lot of interest on Tuesday. It's really coming together nicely. This Cardiff fixture is very well timed.

On his own, in a Watford shirt, he'd be ten points clear.

I tried to count on the sky replay and got to abut 25 - but it could be plus or minus 5 from that.

It was a goal of beauty!

Looked more like a "Money by the weekend or else" type situation, rather than a cuddle.

Five away from home in the top flight? I think it was at Spurs end of 84/85 season. Also last time we scored 5 away in any game.. at Fulham promotion season (on a Friday evening)

Lets see if we can improve on these records over the next 3 away games.. Liverpool, Man City and Man United!

I actually think we might just get something points wise from those fixtures, which is something I would have been unlikely to have even dreamt of in the past.

I am enjoying the wife and kids at the in-laws tonight. I wasn’t there but somehow managed to see even the replays live.

First half was like a cup match. We were better in any metric except pluckiness. We got a goal, got put under pressure by breaks and a deep rooted hope for some magic from the opposition. Got away with a penalty that should have been given, but whether the attacker running across the defender instead of toward the ball means anything I don’t know.

A Gerard that has lacked composure in front of goal scored a reaction goal, then took it round the keeper and that took composure. Then he did the same again.

We are a confidence team who while not the level of City, will put up a much better fight against those above us than Colin’s lot did today.

Through balls from marriappa, Del Boy with the confidence to do what he’s good at, Deeney being a link yet still banging then in.

We are not a lower prem team. With the bit between our teeth we are as good as anyone outside the big boys, and we are good enough to ruin their days every now and again. If Liverpool expect to win we will beat them.

I’m not going player by player but I think massinas movement was top notch. He got forward, pulled defenders away and opened up space. One of my biggest bugbears over our last few years has been a lack of movement going forward and there were times today where Cap and doucs had a ton of space to work with.

Cardiff tried to grind it out, we created, their game plan was done and we won well.

    Happy days

Absolutely smashing result. Well received in Canada, Sportsnet headline ‘Rampant Hornets Spank Cardiff!’

Regarding that penalty decision I have 3 things to say.

    1. It was probably 60/40 going to be given as a foul. 50/50 going to be given inside or outside the box. 70/30 penalty going to be scored. Odds of going in 1-1 minimal.

    2. Warnock said all his players could do at half time was talk about the penalty. There was nothing he could do. Wrong. You are the manager. You focus your team. You drill them. And you send them out prepared for the second half. It was only 1-0. The game was there for you. If you can't turn around your team, choose another profession.

    3. It's happened to us enough. Any neutral out there couldn't give a carp. No one cares and it will be forgotten in 2 days. In fact looking at Twitter, only a couple of Cardiff fans are actually even taking about it, instead focusing on their own shortcomings.

We would definitely complain the same. Of course we would. But 4 years in this division has tempered me because these things happenen.

Oh and 4. Gracia barely ever complains about refereeing decisions, always focusing on the team performance first and foremost.

    Called it.
And for good measure Black Eyed Peas booming in the car before the game
“I gotta feeling, tonight’s gonna be a good night”
    :)

    Just got home.
What a day, one of those ‘I was there’ games.
We dominated them with one touch passing, but Cardiff didn’t help themselves and we got away with the foul/penalty.

But 4 goals with the hatrick at our end.
    Brilliant.
Here’s GD milking it with his new clock replacement item for his mantelpiece.

    upload_2019-2-23_2-46-23.jpeg

Great support for a Friday night.
Best song/chant - ‘swing low sweet chariot’ - they didn’t like that for some reason.

    The only negatives:
    No clean sheet ffs.
The bl00dy roadworks and accident meaning crawling forever in the M4 tailback virtually from the bridge to the Cardiff turnoff. And endless roadworks and ridiculously long diversions and thick fog coming home.
Playing Friday meaning waking up tomoz with no game and thinking it’s Sunday. ( I’ll probably see Stevohorn in church).

But tonight’s for sleeping well with forty points. Well, that’s what I call her.
    :D

Watching the pen again enforces my initial opinion, Murphy runs into Janmaat. Watch the angle from behind, which is the refs view. Murphy comes across when the ball is going forward. You could still call it a foul on DJ but the fact Murphy comes across and NEVER touches the ball influences the ref.

There can’t be any positive eadlines about us. It doesn’t happen.

Are you sure it didn’t say something like ‘ Cardiff have an off day. Ref’s poor penalty division allows Watford to beat them’?

That's way I said at the time, Murphy tries to buy a penalty by running into/across Janmaat and falling over without even having possession of the ball

I think the ref got it right

I do have one moan, that Delifoo song we took from Everton is so sh1t. Worst song ever.

I know what song it's trying to be 'whoa whoa whoa its magic..' when sung by several thousand tone deaf blokes its just a monotonous drone.

Can the 1881 not come up with something better?

Interesting stat that they had 3 more shots than we did and the shots on target were pretty similar. We are lucky to have such an excellent and clinical strike force.
