5-1 away win, 7th in the table, Deulofeu scores a hat trick. The main headline on both BBC Football and Sky Sports? West Ham's tighter home victory.
Bloody marvellous. Love it. Get in. How many passes in the lead up to the 4th? About 50 wasn’t it?! - reminded me of the 5th against Fulham under Joka. Now in the unusual position of not wanting Muff to lose. Feels very wrong. Forgive me for my sins. COY(wonderful)H
Add to the positives above, £4m compo for the snake from Everton, FA cup 1/4 final at the Vic, safety for another season, played thrilling football this evening, Warnock will be upset tonight, we have a decent gaffer, value of our squad is soaring (double edged sword!)
Great stat from the BBC. Warnocks aggregate score against Watford in his last 4 matches is 16-2 to us. We are also his joint worst team to lose against as we have beaten his sides 16 times down the years.
Does anyone else find themselves compulsively rechecking the league table and taking immense satisfaction from the +4GD, 40 points, 7th position, highest goals scored outside the 6 boring usual suspects etc etc.?
Lots of WFC records broken this evening, biggest win in the top division since 1986 (same score V Leicester) 1st top flight hat trick since 1986, GD only the third player ever to score a premier league hat trick on a Friday!
Interesting post match Gerald Depardieufeue interview, interesting for obsessives like myself which you all must be too. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/deulofeu-amazing-day I particularly enjoyed Warnock having a cuddle with some one in the background near the start of the interview.
Oh yes. And after the game he didn't want to talk about the game, because his centre back had broken his leg.
I'm sorry, but how can anyone congratulate Deulofeu for that display? Come on. Gloves AND tights. Totally unacceptable
Watched the highlights now, from SkySports. Wow......we were incredible at times. Ok, Cardiff's defence made it easy for us, but we had so much time and space. If you give good players that extra second on the ball they will beat you. This is what you can say about Watford now. If you're not at it, we can hurt you. Cardiff were poor and we were very good. When that happens, you get a score line like tonight's. It doesn't happen often so enjoy it when it comes. Deulofeu always makes things happen. Today he was everywhere. He could have scored another two easily. I see Warnock wasn't very gracious when Watford players approached him after the match. He also made a big fuss about the penalty. Ok, I do understand it as 1-1 at half time could have made it a different match, but we ended up winning 5-1. When a result is that conclusive it's hard to accept the penalty would have made too much difference really. If you think that, then you're only deluding yourself. Cardiff are on a good run right now, which makes tonight's result even more impressive. They had won at Southampton, and beat Bournemouth 2-0 before that. Even though we've only lost one match this calendar year, that late defeat at Spurs, I don't think our performances have been all that impressive. Tonight that all changed. There was a massive uplift in performance from virtually every player on the field. If we play like that on Wednesday, we may even surprise Liverpool!!
Fingers crossed. I’m budgeting for a 0-3 (ie to them). But if we press them, Salah & Mané can be amazingly meh. Is Mooney fit?
I feel like a kid on Christmas day! At 1-0, I was thinking they it was so open and end to end that there was definitely going to be more goals. 4 more for us including a hattrick for Delboy and an amazing performance from Troy though, I was not expecing that!!! Tonight was the equivalent of waking up on Christmas morning expecting to get an orange in the socking for being in the naughty books a few days prior for giving your little brother an atomic wedgie that sent him to the GP for 3 hours but instead finding a brand new scalextric set with a note of "I'm proud of you son" attached to it. So proud of the team tonight, another season staying up and a chance at the FA Cup. Lovely stuff
Remember when our fans had beef with Holebas and after we got knocked out in the FA Cup to Southampton, only a few games into Javi's reign? Holebas was disliked with passion by many (including myself) at points. How times have changed
Now I'm not totally sure here but, when I rewatched the penalty claim in the first half it looks as if the initial contact is actually slightly out of the penalty area. I haven't totally convinced myself of that point of view but I think there's a debate to be had that it wasn't actually a penalty. Definite foul though. Great win.
Also that 4th goal was a thing of beauty. We must have strung together at least 20 passes before Deeney put it in the back of the net. Reminded me of Man City
