    Not so sure about that.

£4m isn’t much by PL terms and can be afforded by all clubs currently in it. Doesn’t feel like it’s enough to deter other clubs from doing the same.

I think the PL have really let themselves down here by seemingly being very insistent that the clubs sort it out themselves - they seem to have been very reluctant to get involved and that has somewhat allowed Everton to circumnavigate a harsher punishment.

It’s time to let it go and move on but they’ve come out of this looking just as bad as Everton as far as I’m concerned.

Let down by the Premier league. But good to have finally resolved it. We made a stand and quite rightly so. I cant help feeling that the after match trouble was partly influenced by the situation. I for one will continue to dislike Everton, I want us to finish above them and I do hope that they sack Silva but if he continues to perform badly maybe its best they keep him.

I think you're right here. But the fact that the compensation has been offered(?) despite Everton appointing an unemployed manager is probably enough to insinuate to the general public that there may have been some 'underhandedness'.

It'll probably be enough to deter Everton from doing the same.

Seems a little odd given that it wasn't about the money and we pursued this path apparently knowing we would potentially receive no compensation. Wonder if there was something back from the enquiry suggesting an unfavourable outcome?

I know we just published a loss but can't see that affecting it, we will have known the end of year position a long time ago.

    Frankly a little disappointed.

What a result! Imagine getting £4m compo for someone we sacked who turns out to be a fraud of a Manager! Everton will sack him soon and pay far more!!

I think that's the most likely reason and I expect the club continuously reviewed it's position. I genuinely don't think we were winning the PR war either. Neither the Linekar tweet nonsense nor the hostile atmosphere at the home game (with violence afterwards as well) saw us come out looking great to onlookers. It doesn't fit the image Gino and Scott are trying to cultivate.

No point holding out to uphold a principle if your reputation is battered on other fronts as a result.

It was always a case of the Premier League didn't want to get involved with this. I'm surprised it's taken so long to get to this stage.

I believe Watford wanted to make an example of Everton, and waived their right to compensation, but the EPL didn't want to get involved. In the end, just to draw a line under it and move on, the club have accepted Everton's offer of £4m, which is pretty good seeing as they've paid us for a manager we sacked.

It's a clear admission of guilt from Everton, or why else pay anything at all? Watford get some money out of it, and at the end of the day, £4m is £4m and worth having.

It does nobody any good dragging this on indefinitely.

I do wonder had it been the other way around would the EPL be more active? We'll never know of course.

I think Everton have got away with it lightly though, due to the reluctance of the EPL to get actively involved. They could have had a big fine or a points deduction.

I'd like to think the EPL gave Everton a steer to compensate Watford and to not do this type of thing again as it's been duly noted.

To be honest, after we beat them I stopped caring about them.

I've moved on and looks like the club have as well.

Good enough outcome. The principle was proven & that's the main thing.

No guarantees that the legal process would have been more fruitful & it's also quite difficult to prove & substantiate that an approach must then automatically lead to loss of form & moral issues to develop, it's too subjective an argument.

Gino will be happy with the 4 points & the 4m off them, but most importantly that very chain of events has led to our best manager in recent times. Everton have effectively paid to do us a favour.

Clearly we have accepted a low compensation offer from Everton to help the EPL avoid having to make an awkward decision in return for 18 months of favourable refereeing decisions starting today.

I don't see why we should pay for someone wii was sacked 6 months before we hired him. Say the thick as pigs droppings Everton fans in chorus.

I think we may have looked at the season we’re having and thought we don’t want to distract from what the current manager is doing so let’s agree on £4m and move on.

    Isn’t it a token amount?

In the old days, a guinea.

Purely to signal who wins the case.

I’m amazed they paid us anything. We stated we weren’t accepting compo. Rather humiliating for them.

Perhaps we took the £4 million because recent evidence suggested Silva is quite simply just useless and there was a risk the Premier league wouldn't believe our poor run had anything to do with Everton (even though it 'definitely did')

Extra money in the coffers and in all that's nearly £45 million we've got out of Everton

That £4m could shout us all a hot dog each at the next game.

Or our next 6 centre back signings.

What is clear is that the minute we have £1 from Everton over this issue, it’s clear they are in the wrong. I think we wanted a symbol of guilt. Gino will have it privately, but it’s a shame the fans don’t get it....beyond the 4 points.

Actually not necessarily. There comes a point when legal fees far outweigh any victory, be it moral or financial, you hope to achieve.
Gino's case had less merit with each passing week that our slump was simply down to Slivva being a crap coach and nothing to do with Everton's approach.

A fantastic outcome IMO. Obviously the best outcome, with the benefit of hindsight would’ve been to have taken the original £15m or whatever it was when they initially came calling. The downside to that of course was that we don’t have the benefit of hindsight and it would forever have been a case of ‘what might have been’

Like Vydra, Fessi etc a large proportion of our fan base would’ve forever eulogised him based on our great start to the season.

With this outcome we’ve got a better manager, £4m in the bank and we’ve also got to see that Silva is actually a terrible manager. I couldn’t think of a more perfect outcome.

Good spot. I didn’t noticed that. In that case I take it all back. If that was deliberate then the guy that does the twitter feed is genius.

Could the £4m be used to buy the copyright of "Traditional Tunes: A Collection of Ballad Airs by Frank Kidson" and then refuse Everton permission to ever use it?

I presume the deal includes £4 million upfront. Not to be sniffed at, and the end of Silvas claim for unpaid salary following dismissal. Plus I bet Gracia Basic salary package was less than Silva was on last year, probably means we made money on head coach trading in the 17/18 season. Also persisting with the enquiry would divert management attention from the key things we need to do this spring and summer. The presumption of guilt is with Everton who thought it better to pay £4 million than defend their actions and honour to independent lawyers. All in all it seems a very acceptable outcome to me. We can now drop all this wasted energy on Silva and Everton, and concentrate on our football club.

People are forgetting how much Everton overpaid for Richarlison, so the total compensation figure we received is probably nearer £39m.

We don't want Z Cars either, nor any of this horrible, loud bass tuneless stuff that we have to put up with.
A nice piano or violin concerto would be lovely though.
