Very sad event but in the past did we always get such an outburst of sentiment when someone of note died?

I think social media exacerbates it. People feel like they have to say something to make themselves relevant and it just works into a frenzy of idiots trying to outdo each other in showing their compassion for someone they have never met.

Just wondering, was there this amount of mourning from us for Jimmy Davis, who died in much more tragic and horrific circumstances?

No, but how did you decide it was more tragic and horrific?

Not that I remember. the first game of the season against Coventry (I believe) was cancelled, but as he was on loan from Man Utd they felt it worse than we did.

Well he was much younger than Salah and just starting a career of great promise, he looked a really good signing (we might have had a much better season with him than fighting relegation), his death was completely avoidable, and it was a car crash where he had been drink driving at over 120 mph and caused injuries to another driver. Whereas we still don't know for certain whether Salah is dead...

I feel as though everything you just said actually argued against the point you were making.

I can't answer for Luke but, for me, one died through his own misadventure and the other was just a passenger in a plane. Both tragic/horrific but if we're ranking them I have a lot less sympathy for Jimmy D and certainly would say Sala's demise was worse.

First league game cancelled, minutes silence at start of league cup game. Man Utd gave him a shared minutes silence with Ray Harford who had passed at charity shield I think.

Spot on. One guy (Davis) made a ridiculous decision to drive at high-speed while massively over the limit, and paid the ultimate price. If there's any saving grace in his situation, it's that he didn't take anybody else with him.

By all accounts, Sala was sent to his death on a plane that was piloted by a guy who wasn't qualified to make such a flight, in the weather that was forecast for that night. Sala had a flight booked for him, by people who he trusted and unwittingly stepped into a situation that ended his life. He was sold down the river.

I think I read that Jimmy had been drinking up in Manchester and couldn't sleep as it was too hot at his mum's. He decided to drive back to the hotel in Watford where there was aircon and he'd be able to get some sleep.

That's a tragic story but would be equally horrific had he been the passenger.

I think there may be a wider issue with the private flights used by football clubs here.

If anything good comes of this death it will be that rules are tightened up for insurance reasons of nothing else.

As most prem and some champ teams now fly, they charter private planes. You’d expect this area to be highly regulated.
I know a football director who’s plane was grounded at the weekend on the way back from the game. Engine failure on a two engine plane, one pilot. Flying single engine planes with expensive players.
Bad maintenance and single pilots seems a bad idea to me going forward

Wouldn't it be the responsibility of Cardiff City to arrange transport for one of their players?

(For clarity, I'm asking a question not making a statement about Cardiff)

I would think they have people to arrange transport for players. As I understand it even most champ teams do. There are some shady airlines around. Making no judgement here. But you hear stories.

Single pilot. Single engine plane seems a bad choice

Yeah doesn't make sense, even if they paid first class on a scheduled flight that would have been better.

Well 5 people were due money from the transfer so goodness knows how many agents etc were involved advising the player and Cardiff.

Apparently they offered him commercial but he preferred the option the Mackays offered him, as it gave him much more time on the ground in Nantes.

Ok, I didn't know that. Sounds like he wasn't that keen on the move.

    And a lot cheaper.

As I say I don’t think this will continue the insurance companies just won’t allow it

Apparently there wasn't a fee involved for the flight as the pilot did it for a favour for a friend of a friend due to him not be licensed to take fair paying passengers!

A free flight which turned out to be the most expensive flight anyone could take! I am sure the whole sorry episode will have many ramifications in the way people look at light aircraft, their convience and the way footballers travel!

    Holy crap, that is horrifying.

The McKay's surely must be investigated and certain safeguards put in place. Endangering someone's life just because they didn't want to spend a couple of extra grand for a private jet.

Carragher is talking abou Man City’s “twin false eights”. What’s he on about? Is this a false 9 iteration?

It's worth noting that Sala didn't have to get onto the plane; nobody forced him to. He bears a share of the responsibility for what happened to him. He was clued in enough to not feel safe, even to the point that he told his family how unsafe he felt, but he went ahead anyway.

Frankly the biggest finger of blame should be pointed at the pilot, not the agents. The football agents aren't qualified pilots and likely know nothing about air safety, like most of us. The pilot had no excuse and should have known better.

I'm also amazed that Cardiff didn't have some kind of travel safety restriction clause in his contract. That seems incredible when you're spending up to 30 million on a human being; you'd think they'd restrict unnecessarily dangerous activities.

Could be right if tonight's game finishes as it stands.

Still while they're not one of my favourite clubs, I really do hope they hold on to win it, apart from you lot the only teams to have won the title since the Arsenal Invincibles are Chelsea and the two Manc clubs (and Utd not since 2013), and it's getting really boring.

Klopp moaning to the officials ?

In my humble opinion, the draw is the worst case scenario for Everton on Wednesday.

If Citeh win, they go top on goal diffference, however they'll want to win handsomely to out an extra buffer between them.

If Citeh crush them by 4 or 5 clear goals, it could be the end of Sliva because they'll want to stop the rot before our game.

Then again, I could be wrong and Moshiri genuinely doesn't care anymore.
