Not a laughing matter . Pretty sure Gino had no plan to sell Richarlison but relented when that silly offer came in

I don't really regard the offer as "silly money". You wouldn't be able to sign Richarlison for £40m now, as his value is way higher.

I think we cashed in far too early, without having an adequate replacement lined up. We're doing ok because other players in the squad in other positions have stepped up this season, but we've not replaced Richarlison. Even though he went through a major drought with us, he was clearly a player who would regularly score goals in the Premier League.

He's gone to a better side I hear people say, but are they really? Ask any Everton fan and they will tell you Richarlison is their best player. He wasn't even the best player in our side. Watford are above Everton in the league after 20 games, and they've had Richarlison in their side and he's scored 9 goals for them. So this tells me, Watford have a much better team than Everton, only the switching of Richarlison between the sides has it evened out a little, but we still have the edge over them.

Everton have no strikers who you could call natural goal scorers and a patchy defence so really pretty much like us to an extent.

Except they've spent 100 million plus trying to sort that out.

The other day when they scored 5 - 2 were from set plays and another via a penalty - all count I know but still not really a scoring force form open play.

They are probably just easier on the eye to watch compared to under Big Sam - not hard.

Everton have good players, but they are not a "team". Drop a good manager in there and they would be flying. I honestly believe (and I hope the Everton board do not read these forums), but if they had Javi, then they would be a real force.

We are punching above our weight to a degree. Let's be honest, we have a Premier League midfield, Premier League wide players, etc, amalgamated with a Championship strike force and central defence...….yet we are still above Everton.

That's because we have a coach that can get the most out of his squad. Silva cannot do that. His idea is to buy better players and spend vast amounts of money chasing the dream. Must be a Portuguese thing as Mourinho has the exact same trait.

I don’t think this is true. Gomez is class and Sig has improved a lot this year.

Rich has gone missing like he did for us last season and if you look at their forum the jury is definitely still out on him.
Doubt there’d be any bidders at £50m+

The Rich that played for Watford was not the Rich that we originally signed or the Rich that is now playing at Everton. I'm not confident we would have ever got him back so we cashed in at the right time for what I consider decent money.

I'm wondering if Doucs is hitting a similar plateau. He might kick on or he might stagnate. At £50M I'd let him leave but only if he wanted to go.

"Could Abdoulaye Doucouré be interested in OM? "They already contacted me but I wanted to join England at the time. It's a big club, but my heart club is the PSG! "

He's certainly not dampening the recent links to PSG with comments like that. Not selling at any cost? Maybe someone needs to tell him.

He's from Paris wouldn't expect him to say anything else. They'll get him in the summer for 50m but if they want him now they pay much more.

Doucoures constant losing of possession would not be tolerated at a big club.

Someone **** like PSG suits him perfectly.

Define much more? I’d say it’s probably more accurate to believe that £50m would get him now and he’d be £10m or so cheaper in the summer on current form...

Being born in Paris or not - its not hard to be diplomatic and avoid the question in a respectable manner. I had no issue with the answer he gave but he’s hardly doing his best to bat away the rumours or saying he’s concentrating on Watford...

They could be nudging Doucs to give indiscreet, ‘honest’answers which suggest his lack of loyalty.

Leading fans to holler ‘Traitor. Gino, sell this villain.’

I'm sure I read last week if PSG wanted him in January they would be forced to pay £60m.

He's lined up as their Rebiot replacement so I'd expect they'll hold off until the Summer.

  19. hornetboy1

That's seems to be the situation. You can have him, but if it's in this window you'll have to pay well over the odds, which PSG are unlikely to do.

The stance the club took with "selling at no price" is a strong one, but clearly if they tabled a £60m bid then the club would do business in this window I'm sure.

If we sold for £50m in the summer, which I think is highly likely, no one would have a problem. PSG seem to be the club he loves, and why not. The biggest team in France.

We have Chalobah, I believe could step up, and that money could really boost the budget, if you tie in the Richarlison fee as well, which has not been spent on the team as yet.

It would put us in another level, if we received a £90m cash injection over the two windows, so in the summer we could really get those players that would make a big difference.

My only concern is that it could start falling apart. Doucoure going, rumours over Pereyra, Richalison already gone and not replaced. It's all very well having the money, but it's hard for a small club to attract quality players. We've done well in the past with Deulofeu, Chalobah and Pereyra, but it's not a guarantee players of that quality will continue to sign if they see us selling top players.

The latest quote from Doucoure suggests that any transfer would be in the summer (if at all) and not now. "To hear that such clubs are interested in you, it's a honour. My performance will decide what happens. I'm glad to be at Watford now, this club trusts me. I'm happy with what I'm doing here."

Here's his interview. It's actually reads very well for Watford, and a lesson for the tw&t Silva on how to conduct yourself during speculation.

    https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...aris-saint-germain-link-but-happy-at-watford/

Dourcoure shows an excellent approach towards his career path. Of course he would like to play for PSG and Champions League football, but knows he's not ready yet. He probably feels that if he went there under a big transfer fee, great things would rightly be expected of him, when he knows deep down he's unlikely to deliver at this current stage of his career.

He seems to be a very smart chap and staying with Watford will give him time to develop into an even better player. It's a win, win. We either retain an ever improving player or sell him for a large amount of money.

To think Mazzari wanted him gone, wow.

Spurs have just accepted a bid for Dembele from China which you would think would mean they are potentially in the market for a CM. Although I’d be surprised if Levy went anywhere near what we’d want. Can’t see them smashing their own transfer record....

Some French chap on 5live said PSG only have £30 million to spend this January and they might wait to raise funds in the summer for someone of better quality than Doucoure (or Gueye) of Everton ...

Playing for a club basically guaranteed Champions League football in the country of your birth doesn't come along every day. I for one would not begrudge him that chance.

He has given us 3 years during which he has conducted himself admirably on and off the pitch. We will get around £50m which if reinvested properly will not weaken the squad.

The silver lining is of course that the Snake will never get hold of him as I can't see him in the running to manage any champions League side any time soon.

It doesn’t come along every day. And from his comments, it hasn’t arrived yet...he openly says theirs been no contact from PSG.

I don’t begrudge him wanting such a move but I find his latest comments disrespectful towards us.

I know contracts are only signed in Football now to make sure clubs get increased transfer fee’s - but Doucoure needs to remember he signed a 5 year deal just a matter of 6 months ago. None of us really expected him to see out more than a year of that deal but I think his form suffers when he talks about transfers etc. Shut up, play the game and the inevitable transfer will happen.
