I'm as frustrated as anyone when Holebas launches corner after corner at the first man, however the stats don't lie. We've a decent return from corners this season, so something must be right.
Pointed, like a paper aircraft?! Given the antiquated nature of it,I suspect he died long before Perikles!
Maybe kicking that stupid mascot is the only option. Stevo Horn would be my go to man with regard to the ageing of stands although you may have someone in your immediate household who is itk.
What happened? I was stuck on the far side near the corner and was blissfully unaware of any incident. I could hardly see the pitch anyway!
Another contender for goal of the season then - almost one every other game. Ben Foster must be one of the best keepers in terms of saving with his feet around - never seems to get beaten.
I confess that I hadn't consulted stats before I posted - it's incredible ! A couple of seasons ago Man City managed 4 goals from 259 attempts! I need to rethink.
Gino: 'Hold my beer.' The man has already done things for our club that we couldn't have imagined. He may just go on and do things we currently think are impossible. Can't wait to find out.
In his frugal Friuli fashion, he has. Does anyone know the Lesta wage bill for their Prem winning season? Vardy won’t have been on a fortune then but I fear we have hit our ceiling without a 15 a season striker.
Find it really odd that the broadcaster at the time didn't show any other angles. Hughes was all over the place and they showed one replay from quite far out. He was jogging into the box next to Sakho, who seemed to make some sort of movement and the next thing, Hughes was in a heap and couldn't stand up straight. How many times has a footballer ever collapsed with a concussion and no-one is even interested in how it happened? Also a bit worrying that our medical team allowed him to continue after the first assessment.
Yeah, football fans get disproportionately excited when their team wins a corner given the likelihood of anything actually coming of it.
I don’t think we all agree that Gracia is limited in his tactical thinking. We are 7th which in reality is as high as we can expect. He brought Sema on but it didn’t work so changed him for Cleverley which obviously did work.
I remember there was a season when Arsenal scored more goals (on the counter attack) from opposition corners than they did from their own.
Udinese had a couple of years of Champions League football, though the Serie A top 4 is a bit easier to break into than the Premier League equivalent.
Watford made three goals and won 1-2 anyway. Meanwhile Fulham scored three goals as well at Burnley but lost somehow 2-1.
Conservative - no just labouring for points. I do agree that we will probably be more than safe with another three points in reality but will stick to wanting to get to 40 until we are mathematically safe. Carry on as we are and we will be above 50-55 so relegation will not even be on our horizon. Still I will be happy for the 40 first.
I also fear that we're a team who are probably going to lose one or two in the summer. Doucoure and Pereyra look primed to move on and it won't be easy to replace at least Pereyra. Quina and Cleverley with hopefully Chalobah regaining some of his capabilities will mean central midfield is well stocked. But Pererya has made and scored goals that are the difference between us and a side like palace. We won't easily buy a 10 goal a season midfielder who can create a similar number of goals, without spending 40m
It was so evenly dismissed that I must admit, I fell for it a bit. My signal wasn't great for that portion of the game, so I missed the original incident, but the replay showed little, but it looked like he took a whack to the head, which Tony Gayle brushed off as Hughes having run into Sakho. Seems unlikely to me that he'd scramble his own brains by sheer force of his own momentum running into that man. Must have been an elbow or arm. Maybe a pure accident but still, to not even look at it?
A couple of seasons ago I made the decision to stop going to Selhurst. The Arthur Waite Stand, plus the way that it is run, are not fit for purpose. The last time I went I could only see half the match, I was ankle-deep in empty beer bottles and the crowd were poorly behaved (Especially the Watford fans). The adjacent stand apparently has no disabled toilets and so the Palace-supporting wheelchair users have to share facilities with the away supporters. It's a dump, run on a shoe-string and I don't want to spend a day and premiership money to be there.
Yes, I think this summer we will see exactly what the WFC Pozzo model is. Its obviously not in the first team's interest to sell Maxi and Doucs. Even with all our other midfielders and also Bertie, Lukebakio, Del boy, Sema, Quina and Hughes being able to play wide/wideish. If Gino sells that's his choice and he has every right to do it. If he keeps them as vital first team players it'll send out a big message. In my opinion both players are worth more to us on the pitch than their market value. The Pozzos kept Di Natale at Udinese and theyve kept Troy here. Hopefully theyll do the same with Doucs and Maxi. When u think of the potential value of players who've never even played for us in the prem like Luke, Cucho, the baby Serb, JP and Bertie we dont need to be selling our 2 standout players any time soon. What Im really saying Gino is: please dont sell our 2 best f****** players, cos I love watching this team!! Do it for the glory, not for the money. After all we are the 2018-19 Chav Cup winners =p
Lovely! Beat Burnley, beat Newcastle / Blackburn in the cup and lose to Spurs. I'll take that this Jan!
Exactly. A chance to catch your breath and cheer as you know the ball will end up in the mixer with 6 or more of our players there, so anything can happen. Exciting. Except that’s not what happens at Watford - the ball usually doesn’t clear the first man or is played short and is wasted. Where is Malts when you need him for the real stats on what happens at our corners? BUT - this season, when the corner routine does comes right from training ground practice, we’ve scored some quality goals, especially Bobby.
