Play the kids vs Brighton & save the big boys for Toon.

Let's not be presumptuous. We still have the 2nd leg against Wokeing Academicals to come before we play Brighton.

Yes midweek away game. 2-0 down and turned it around to lead 4-2 vs Souness's Blacburn. He almost exploded after the match.

BUT can our reserves beat their reserves?

Win the FA Cup or finish 7th in the league? Come on Javi, play the first team in this and put the stiffs out v Spurs the following Wednesday.

    Hope we get Blackburn

If nothing else, if you win the cup you're straight into the group stage of the Europa League. 7th place means starting the new season about a week after this one ends.

8th & the Cup sounds a decent compromise.

I see you keep mentioning these "International TV games" but there were six 3rd round games shown on UK television spread over 4 days, all with staggered ko times. Some of these games might be sold abroad but that's not the primary reason the games are spread out.. it's the domestic tv schedule that does that.

Anyway i think it was an ok draw. Either payback time for Newcastle this season or a trip to Ewood where i haven't been before.

But why were there 7 KOs at 12:30 on Saturday, for example?

Newcastle and Blackburn are at risk of relegation and promotion respectively, so either would field a weakened team. Let's hope we don't

    Where are they?

On that basis it may well be the case that we won't have a 3pm Saturday slot even though I am pretty certain we won't be on UK tv.

I love the idea of being ‘at risk’ of promotion. Presumably scared to death of getting battered by Man City et al next season?

Hopefully Newcastle win. Blackburn will be up for it against another premier league club, especially an established club like ourselves.

Newcastle have a 6 pointer against Cardiff right after us, they will be more focused on that game than the cup. We have battered Newcastle in both games this season, the final results were just down to poor finishing from us.

Fancy our chances much more against a weak Newcastle than a fired up championship club.

I know who we play cannot be confirmed until the replay, but when will it will be confirmed if it will be a 3pm Saturday game?

Thursday or Friday I expect. That should be when they announce the TV picks which then see everything else move around over the 4 days.

Ooo Blackburn away, my first away day club coach experience and thankfully not had many more. Midweek, in I think the league cup, when Shearer was playing for them and Daglish managing. We lost 6-1 but it was a strangely fine night in which we were in fine singing voice. There were crazy surges and general OTT exultation when we scored our consolation goal. Afterward I recall reading that Daglish paid special homage to impressive Horn away atmosphere.

    End nostalgia mode.

I was there for that, my joint worst away score (equal with 5-0 at Wimbledon) but as you said it was a strangely jovial atmosphere.

Not been back to Selhurst since that Wimbledon loss, it was a bad experience all round.

I should imagine Spurs vs Palace is already the Monday night game as Spurs Carabao cup second leg isn’t until Thurs 24th - FA won’t make them play at the weekend you’d bet.

Got a coach up for that as well but thankfully a private coach. Was very drunk. Had this been postponed a week earlier or is my memory deserting me like Nathan Jones has done to the scum

That postponement does ring a vague bell now you mention it.

Thought I’d have a look at the history of FA Cup winners. The big 6 have won 23 of the last 25! We’ve got to hope it’s like the World Cup where the big sides kept having shock exits. I worked out (very unscientific maths) we’ve probably got about 1% or less chance of winning the cup. Newcastle or Blackburn away are games you can’t fear when you look at the big picture.

Only if you count Everton in the big 6.

    Wigan 2013
    Portsmouth 2008
    Everton 1995.

Having said that, you have to go back to Wimbledon in 1988 to find another non-big 6 winner. So it’s actually 29 of the last 32.
