I don't see it as ridiculous. He's pretty good with bags of potential and is English. Don't forget we spent £18.5m on Gray and I know which deal I would prefer.

They've signed Nathaniel Clyne too, so doing good business early.

I don't disagree and I did think of Gray. I guess it's yet another example of crazy transfer fees in general.

Yes, that's a good move for club and player.

It may well work out for them but £19m does seem steep in the context of what Liverpool paid for him 18 months ago and what he's done since then. At least Gray had a goal-scoring record of sorts. I suppose if he bangs in 10-15 goals between now and next Jan they'll have a £50m player on their hands, the way the market is going.

So they save cash by getting some of Defoes wages shipped to Rangers then spend it on an unproven youngster instead. Aw bless them and their underdog status.

That's what strikers cost these days and that's why we almost certainly won't be buying one !

15 rising to 19 million is very expensive, Wilson must be off..

I think they are paying some of Defoe's wages.
Bad news for AFC,will only leave them with Private Fraser if Sgt Wilson leaves.

I was speaking about Callum Wilson the other day to my pal from football who is good friends with Callum Wilson they both come up through Coventry City's academy together and have been good friends since. He said that Callum Wilson is very keen on the idea of going to Chelsea. Maybe Solanke is a replacement.

Seems more like a Defoe replacement.

Surely if they are replacing Wilson they'd go for someone good.

I know they're not very popular on here but I actually quite like Bournemouth. Nice to see a team with a young English manager playing decent football doing things the right way.

I agree. Reminds me of us in the 1980s.

I don’t have an issue with them so much. I just wish they’d stop all the falling over because it’s not necessary. And I wish the media would see through all this ‘plucky’ nonsense because the money they’ve splashed out since joining the PL means they are anything but plucky.

Kevin Affleck, whilst opinionated, is an employee of WFC and even he saw fit to tweet regarding the actions of their bench on Tuesday towards the officials.

I see them as just another PL club really. I think Solanke has done nothing to justify being worth this sort of fee but that’s just the nature of the transfer market now. As HB1 said, we dropped £18m on Gray - although at least he had a record to speak on in English senior football. But I thought they overpaid hugely on Ake and they’d easily make money on him now - so I will reserve judgment on Solanke.

Still rather have Abraham though. Or Defoe to be quite honest.

The price is simply jacked up by Liverpool. Liverpool seem to think they can sell people for exceptionally high fees as the player has worn their shirt.
Muff are mugs but have the silly money behind them to be mugs.
Sinclair will look like a right bargain after this.

He was prolific at youth level and hasn’t had much of a chance at senior level.

They’ve overpaid, but he certainly has the potential to reclaim a chunk of the money if he’s a failure, and make their money back many times over if he’s a success.

Surely this transfer proves that to be correct then?

If Wilson does leave, this will be the first & last time that we'll be able to make this excellent reference.

Unless Fraser also goes to Chelsea.

Liverpool are indeed good at selling tat for big big money. Benteke, Ibe, Sakho spring to mind. Solanke may or may not be added to this list.

would be a nice thought if we only put in a cheeky loan bid to force bournemouth into paying an extortionate amount to secure him permanently instead of on loan

    Plucky Fulham - 104 mill
    Aspiring West Ham - 91mill

These 4 alone have a bigger net spend deficit than Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea combined!!!!!

    Plucky Southampton - 50 mill
    Plucky Huddersfield - 36 mill
    Plucky Burnley - 30 mill
    Plucky Cardiff - 30 mill
    Aspiring Leicester - 27 mill
    Diving Palace - 10 mill

    Thrifty Newcastle +8 mill
    Little Old Watford +22mill
