We managed runners-up in 2015-16, but we were 36 points behind LCFC!

Two wins on the trot certainly makes things look rosy. Christmas day will be a happy day in Hornet Households!

    The current position is:
    • 5 points better than this time last year (27 vs 22). This is 3 points better than after the last game.
    • 12 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (27 vs 15). This is 3 points better than after the last game.
    • 8 points better than the '40 point' line (27 vs 19). This is 2 points better than after the last game.

We got 9 points from our next three games last season. If we could replicate that...
36 points on the 2nd Jan (hopefully)

Unlikely we'll beat the 29 set by QSF but definitely moving in right direction after 2 years of what felt like standing still (at best)

Now we're at the half way stage, I think it's a good time to review and maybe predict what the second half will bring.

I'm expecting a couple of astute signings, and hopefully they will just nudge us a little further forward than we are currently.

We're so close to being an exceptional side, but have limitations that I think a good transfer window can rectify.

So with that in mind, I'm going to predict we'll end up with a whopping 60 points this season.

Sounds rather fanciful, and maybe a bit over optimistic, but I'll break it down.

Away from home the second half is going to be tough, with only 5 of the remaining 10 games against teams outside of the top 6.

However, the key is home. I think from now until the end of the season, we'll do very well. There's no reason we cannot win the lot. Of course, it's football and that is unlikely to happen, but I think we'll win most of the home matches and pick up points away.

Wow, very positive. I can’t quite see us achieving 60 points especially if Kabesele is out for a while. Even if he isn’t, we still need a quality centre back.

If we make 60, that’ll set some target for the future seasons.

I think I’ll go for 52 points without signing anybody of quality.

    Poll?

I’m not sure we’re close to being exceptional in the eyes of everybody. Unfortunately only by Watford standards (which I still think is fantastic)

I can see us losing our quality players: Pereyra, Delofeu and Doucouré in the summer which will make next season a massive challenge.

To make 60 points, it's only 2 extra wins in the second half of the season. Considering we should have beaten Fulham, Newcastle, Arsenal and Everton, I think it's very achievable.

As we have played every team once you could now make a prediction based on the following rules:
    • Teams we have beaten at home, we will draw with away
    • Teams we have drawn with at home, we will lose to away
    • Teams we have lost to at home, we will lose top away
    • Teams we beat away, we will beat at home
    • Teams we drew with away, we will beat at home
    • Teams we lost to away, we will draw with at home
Based on that we would pick up the following points (26).

    Liverpool 0
    Manchester City 0
    Tottenham Hotspur 1
    Chelsea 0
    Arsenal 1
    Manchester United 0
    Bournemouth 0
    Leicester City 1
    Wolverhampton Wanderers 3
    Everton 3
    West Ham United 3
    Brighton and Hove Albion 1
    Crystal Palace 1
    Newcastle United 1
    Southampton 3
    Cardiff City 1
    Burnley 3
    Huddersfield Town 1
    Fulham 3

Gives us 53 points for the season - easily our best PL season......

I like the positivity but as our second half of the season is usually a struggle I predict a forum meltdown and circa 48 points

That won't happen this season. The team is very different under Gracia.

The average number of points required for 10th place in the final PL table over the last 6 seasons is 47.

In every one of those seasons 50 points would secure a top half finish.

    The Pozzo Plan......

Three years to break out of the Championship
Three years to consolidate in the bottom half of the PL
Three years to consolidate in the top half of the PL
    Then......

30 points keeps you up this season & therein lies the very real problem. When the pressure is off the hunger of this team always dissipates, players won't get stuck in as much for fear of injury & it gets significantly colder for our little darlings. I would say do not get fooled into thinking it won't happen again because of Javi.

If we get to 50 points that will be a good enough incremental improvement.

Yes 50 points looks about right to me too.
That would be a great improvement. Lets not get complacent like Charlton fans from 15 (?) years ago who celebrated Curbishley leaving after top half finishes so they could get someone in "capable of taking them to the next level". That man was Pardew and he of course "did a job" and took them to the next level...the championship. Mid table with more loses than wins, given 12 games are against the top 6, would be a great achievement.

.... sell up, buy Sunderland and do it all again. Or take a short cut and buy Newcastle

More likely Charlton or L*t*n due to the ability to present them as "London clubs" to potential signings. No-one in their right mind wants to move to Sunderland !

They weren't too worried about our stadium :).
The attraction with us was being able to sell "London" to potential transfers and loans - they and their wives wouldn't want to be marooned in Sunderland !
I think they were talking to Charlton before buying us. That club is in a mess and has great potential. They are businessmen and if I was them I would sell us and buy Charlton this minute !

I watched a few of the Sunderland fly on the wall docs.

    Depressingly amateurish.

The head of recruitment presented a list of loan options from top prem teams to the chief exec, to be told the club couldn’t afford any.

He hadn’t factored in the wage bill.

They singled out a striker & a winger as the main targets.

So they got a second keeper who couldn’t get in the team.

And central casting’s archetypal fan declared that they would get promoted because they were a proper club ‘unlike Watford’.

    They were relegated.

Not too sure. The next 8 fixtures sees us play 6 of those away. It's going to be a tough run now to pick up a lot of points over the next few weeks.
