I’ve seen a couple of comments about us just playing sideways football. I thought we did exactly the right thing yesterday. We kept the ball, didn’t panic and waited for gaps to open up and when they did we exploited them, quite often at pace.
Thought the ref yesterday was excellent. Didn’t blow up for everything, let the game flow and no major decisions wrong. Good to see
I agree. This is the first time I've ever seen him officiate this way. He's normally very controversial and fussy. I think he had a game plan to be as invisible as possible. He's probably desperate to get another game in the Premier League. He's had only two in his career, both at Vicarage Road. Watford are clearly the first stepping stone for a new Premier League official. He'll be hoping to get a match at Burnley or Bournemouth, as the next stage of his development. I remember him being one of the biggest c**** in the Championship. Just dreadful when he did our games in the past, but I could not find fault with him yesterday. He let the game flow and didn't blow for some obvious fouls. I'm sure Kevin Friend, Mason or Moss would have sent Deeney off for the challenge on the keeper. I still think Deeney will get a retrospective 3 match ban. The challenge was much worse than the Capoue one, and using that as the yardstick, I don't see how he will escape punishment.
U wot?! Look at this image again that was posted earlier, a Cardiff player clearly headed the ball to Bamba: It was offside, no ifs, buts or maybes.
Spot on. When a team is camped with 10 behind the ball and no interest in coming out, you can either sling in aimless balls and hope for a mistake, or as we did, probe and switch, moving around until they leave an opening. We opened them up several times and scored 3 goals so the evidence suggests it was the correct approach
Agree. The goal being offside or not is the responsibility of the assistant on that side. It's unfair that the ref is being criticised by Their player and manager in an appalling act of bad sportsmanship. Trying to destroy a budding referee's career with zero justification is extremely classless of Warnock and Ethelred
Honestly, I looked at the goal a few times and I felt it came off Doucoure...however, if it did it was more luck than judgement from the lino.
Someone has hacked HB1's account. Posting that Deeney should get 3 game ban and that the Cardiff 2nd was onside. It's weird and making me uncomfortable.
He didn't though. I've seen the footage from behind the goal. It shows the ball possibly skimming off the Cardiff player but it's Doucoure who heads it back. No ifs, buts or maybes. It wasn't offside because Doucoure played the ball.
I only say he should get a 3 match ban because I'm using the Capoue tackle as a yardstick. It's clearly more of a foul than the Capoue one was, so by that definition he should get a 3 match ban. The FA review panel and arbitration thought Capoue's challenge was worthy of a 3 match ban. So it's clear what the ruling is for these types of challenges.
Well I'm big enough to admit I was wrong. I focused on the 2nd phase, which I'm not sure the Cardiff player touched it, however the original flick from the throw in Reid was offside and became active. I apologise for any distress caused to you and other members of this forum.
No, play it back from the throw in, Reid was offside from the original flick on, regardless of whether it was touched by Doucoure - which made Reid active from an original offside position.
An apology wasn't really required, but it's noted anyway. The rules of football and interpretation of the offside laws are freely available on the internet, for anyone else who is still in any doubt. Just saying.
Ok...if I'm wrong over this then I'm happy to admit it. But, the throw in was headed across goal by the first Cardiff player, then another one tried to flick it on, but either missed it or had the slimmest of touches. It wasn't conclusive whether he even touched the ball. It went across goal, not forward. It was Doucoure who headed it towards the two Cardiff players. I don't see how it could be offside. Had the Cardiff player headed it forward, then yes, of course it's offside, but he didn't do this.
If fans on here are having problems deciding what's what after studying footage many times, it's no wonder Linesmen and refs get it wrong, roll on V.A.R.!
https://www.goalsarena.org/en/video...ague/15-12-2018-watford-3-2-cardiff-city.html The original flick on definitely goes forward, no question.
It didn't though. The flight of the ball was unchanged. I think the Cardiff player missed it completely. It only went forward after Doucoure headed it. I've freeze framed it at both key moments. Once it goes on the official site I'll try and screen print it. That photo Lowerrous produced (#355) is deceiving. It looks like the Cardiff player is heading it, but look at the size of the ball compared to the head of the Cardiff player. The ball is twice as big as his head. It's clear the ball is nearer to the camera and the Watford and Cardiff players are standing much further back. There is probably a 6 foot gap between the players and ball. You don't get the sense of perspective with a photo like this. It only will confirm two Cardiff players were standing in an offside position. It doesn't confirm the Cardiff player headed it.
Look from throw in to first flick on...the ball goes forward...Reid is offside at the first flick on.
The final ball played to Bamba did indeed come off Doucoure, having gone over the head of Hoilett. You can see that from this angle.. If we take it back one play then yes two Cardiff players are in offside positions on the initial flick.. Most people were however responding to the photo of Hoilett seemingly playing a ball through to Bamba.. which he didn't. Well apart from a few smartarses who seem to always be ahead of the rest of us mere mortals.
Strangely, there was no mention of offside on MOTD. Instead they discussed Deeney's "foul" at some length, mainly because Warnock went into full Colin mode, moaning about the ref who actually had a very good game.
This forum:- Lose - argue about refereeing decisions and say Deeney is ****. Win - argue about refereeing decisions and say Deeney is ****.
