At 28 he's not a typical Pozzo signing either - value can only decrease.

If, and that’s a big if, the club so splash out on another striker, I think there has to be movement going out as well. If we spend over £10m on a player now, I think it’s reasonable to assume he will be expected to be 1st choice. Gino won’t ‘green light’ a big outlay on a player for him to be in and out of the team like Gray has been I doubt.

I honestly don’t think Sala’s age would be the problem if we could be sure we’d get a return in goals from him. The biggest obstacle in signing any striker is Gino will be worried of repeating the same thing that’s happened with Gray IMO.

I don’t think it’s that the money isn’t there to spend I doubt. It’s thats it’s not there to be wasted anymore I suspect.

I think it's far more likely we would sign someone like Chalov/Stuparevic than Sala. Maybe Sala on loan with a view, but the fact he's still got 18 months on his contract, means Nantes are not quite at the "desperate to sell" stage yet. That means his transfer fee will be a little inflated, especially in the January market. Watford tend to steer clear of deals like this

Chalov has 18 months also on his contract, but is only 20 years old. If we were to go for him, I suspect it would be in the summer.

Clearly we do have a bit of unwanted talent on our books. Zeegelaar and Britos are just making up the numbers and Kaboul is not even in the squad. All three need to be paid off, or shipped out for nominal fees just to get them off the books.

Prodl could be on his way as well. Even though he's only just signed a new 4 year deal, as he appears to be 4th choice behind Cathcart, Kabasele and Mapps. I think it would be Prodl's decision to go though, especially if we sign another centre back in January.

If we do manage to sign a "first team" striker, then Okaka would be the most likely player to make way.

Having said all this, I can't really see too much activity which will have an immediate impact on the first team. Usually the big signings are made in the summer. One or two additions only, plus a few youngsters possibly.

I don't think this guy would be available for £10m and I don't think that £10m will buy you a 1st choice striker.

Agreed. Unless relegation looks a possibility I think we will have a very quiet January other than a few £3m-ish punts on young promising talent for the future.

I’m just talking in general when I quote those numbers, not about Sala specifically.

£10m likely won’t buy us a striker who is 1st choice elsewhere. My argument that if we spend £10m on that player (whoever that may or may not be!), they would likely be scouted now with the understanding they would be our 1st choice.

Nantes have named their price according to a few papers this morning, due to more than one PL club being interested.

    £25m.

Surely there is a hotshot in one of the tertiary Eurpoean Leagues we can snaffle for 10m.

Strikers are so rare, but every single club has them

If Andre Gray cost us (up to) 18m, then logical equivalence dictates that a striker with composure has to cost at least (up to) 700/800m.

    25mil is a steal.

So you're looking for a striker around 40 times better than Gray? Mmmm.... fair enough.

You're right. Seems a bit unambitious for a Premier League club.

Perfect for us. We either get to see how crap he is, and smile at how our crafty owners don’t waste money on desperation buys like this, or we get to see that he’s great, perfectly suited to English football and pick him up in the summer after Cardiff go down.

But he's Spanish - surely bozo Warnock would be against bringing him to the British isle?!

  22. Warnock will probably be happy if Cardiff can deduct the Settles Status Fee from the £18m transfer fee.
