The Championship 2018/19

I don’t get what these Championship clubs think their leverage is to get a better TV deal.

 

I used to think that. In our good seasons it was great regularly steam rollering teams week in week out and I used to think that would alway be preferable to mediocrity in a better league.

This season has very much changed my mind. The standard of players we had in the championship although good for that league was light years behind what we have now.

We’ve finally got to a stage when we don’t aimlessly hoof the ball out of defence 100 times a game. Win or lose I far prefer watching quality players play quality footballl.

 

That’s not leverage, that’s just wanting more money.
Forming the Premier League was an exercise in concentrating big TV money at the top of the game, which has been achieved, so the PL have no reason to want to dilute that effect. We (and other smaller clubs in the PL) are lucky that those top teams need some opposition to play, so we get a share which Villa, Forest, Leeds etc. could also have if they get promoted.
On top of this, no matter how often they say what a great league the Championship is, the viewing figures show that the PL is far and away more popular to the armchair fan. So why would Sky or any other broadcaster pay over the odds to show EFL matches?
In fact, all credit should go to the EFL for signing a much improved deal which will help protect all EFL clubs below those ‘big’ few making all the noise.

 

But Leeds, Forest, West Brom, Villa etc are MAHUSIVE clubs.

Two European champions there, for a start.

 

Leeds being owned by Eleven Sport (one of our media partners) may have something to do with it. Leeds hate the fact that SKY are always moving their games for TV and their owner would love the Championship being streamed on his platform, making him lots of money in the process. Think he has been in the ear of a fair few owners.

 

If anyone wants a reminder of how crazy the Championship is, it's currently Villa 2 - 3 Forest live on Sky Sports. After 21 minutes!

Please, please, please let the “mighty” Leeds choke. Would be a beautiful thing. Had your usual Leeds supporter on talksport the other night saying they’ll win all their games and take their rightful place in the Prem “where we belong”.

Pretty sure the football world can unite on this one.

Edit: there’s an air of “anyone but Leeds” about the top of the Championship at the moment.

 

Anyone that appreciates a penalty winning dive, needs to watch Gayle's of West Brom just now against Forest.

If you like cheating, it is a thing of beauty.

Manages to attach himself to the defender's leg and then do a forward roll over it.
I expect Roy and Martin maybe just a little upset.

 

I don't think was any contact at all yet Tom Daley would have been proud.

It also highlights a Forest claim for an obvious penalty at the other end straight after. It all happened in the last few minutes when Forest had been 2-1 up.

I think Lee Mason ought to be feeling pretty embarrassed at his performance, he had tyhe perfect view of both incidents and I reckon he was scared to go against the home team. Two shocking decisions.

 

Unfortunately, we will reap the QPR tornado.

 

Embarrassing. If Gayle doesn’t get a retrospective ban then the entire concept is a waste of time.

 

The FA opted not to ban the Brentford player for his blatant dive against Barnet last month so I doubt this'll get one either. Seems like they've given up on that whole project and are now just hanging on for VAR to save the day.

 

That is dreadful. When VAR arrives I think that be a straight red card incident. I've no idea why but I really dislike Gayle, he just strikes me as a bit of a ****. Great move for the first Forest goal though

He always looks sulky.
He played for Palace (almost certainly related to Zaha,after last night's performance).
He reminds me of one of Musical Youth and I have 'Pass The Penalty' on my mind for at least 12 hours after seeing him play.

Charged with "successful deception of a match official".

 

Lee Mason has been charged with "unsuccessful impersonation of a match official" too.

 

A retrospective ban is a pointless punishment. The guilty players team should be given a points deduction or made given a -x handicap. If they win comfortably it may not have any effect but in tight games it will rule in favour of the other team. Diving is cheating and all pundits should be made to remember that

Ha. Gayle banned for 2 games. WBA say they accept the ban but agree with Gayle's account that he was 'trying to avoid anticipated challenges'.
