Maybe it's just me, but the new floodlights did seem a little dim the other week, especially when I watched the game back on TV

I thought that too, I put it down to the crap stream I was watching or my aged CRT monitor.

Could somebody who actually goes confirm?

The Spanish company Proyectos Metálicos Caballero are at the ground again, down Occupation Road just before you turn into the Rookery End.

An area had been taped off by the big gates beneath the flats down there with quite a few metal/aluminium 'struts' type things left on the floor. They were approximately 10 foot in length, possibly longer. I'm afraid I'm unable to elaborate any further and no, I didn't take any photo's.

    That is all.

Probably just spares. You never know when you might need another metal strut type thing.
(A distant second explanation is they are building a cage to keep the new-model-non-diving-but-otherwise-quite-belligerent Harry in).

There was a pretty big digger parked in the space behind the big screen at that corner at the Huddersfield game, so obviously something is afoot.

I know the floodlights on the vic rd end have been replaced. Have the ones on the rookery been done already? Maybe the metal struts are for that if the answer is they have not.

New floodlights for the Rookery to match the new ones on the Vicarage Rd end.
They never announce any intended work do they, they just do it. Unlike Baz who announced it and never did it. I wonder if the expansion is still on though?

There are lots of new lights in the ground, many of them on top of the stands. Most appear to be pointing in our faces. Maybe someone forgot to point them at the pitch.

What you talking about. He spent over £550k on doing up the Red Lion. :D

Seriously though, I've not heard anything recently on the SEJ stand extension. It was supposed to have been done in the summer, but clearly things have changed.

Personally I think it does need to be done. We have a ST waiting list and it also gives the impression Watford are a serious EPL club, with a stadium to match. Only Bournemouth have a smaller stadium. It all adds up to the overall image of the club and is an easier sell to prospective in coming players.

    I agree.
The next few years will determine if the owners are ambitious or just content to take the profits until relegation.

The fact that we are not quite selling out for home matches may have put that idea on hold.

The conclusion on a separate thread is that there aren’t any profits unless we make a major sale.

Balancing the books is a handsome achievement in a league fuelled by oil/dubious money.

How many times has every seat been occupied?

Gino is fully justified in fixing this before building a potential white elephant.

That's not really the point, IMO. There is a waiting list for season tickets. This tells me there is a greater demand than current capacity allows. Increasing the SEJ stand by around 5,000 would not be a "white elephant". Regardless of people actually turning up, the club will sell the seats. This will increase revenue, so financially makes perfect sense.

There are also all the other benefits, as I've already stated.

I think it means more detailed analysis needs to be done about the reasons why there are empty seats. As I've said on here plenty of times before, the fact a lot of the seats left are often at the front or far fringes of stands, and usually only in twos at most, must make significantly more sales difficult. More capacity should solve that. Plus we do sell out for the big boys and the club have to weigh up the likelihood of that carrying on even if another 3,000-5,000 seats are added.

Hasn’t Duxbury said we would expand to 35k if possible?
Not sure that’s feasible but now just waiting for the Doucouré money to tart up the SEJ stand. Work to start this summer?

He said he wanted to extend to a total capacity of 30,000, which is about right for a club of our size with an eye on an ambitious future. You have to create the infrastructure in order to grow into it.

I think we must already have the money from the Richarlison sale. It depends whether we are going to invest in the squad or stadium. However, the cost of increasing the SEJ stand would not be too excessive.

  28. Empty seats in 'sold out' stadia is a problem across the premier league, Arsenal are a perfect example

Doubt there is an easy fix

  29. They should add an extra tier to the GT which would help with the 'sun in your eyes' situation* in the SEJ, and presumably would not affect anybody's right to light?

*After Wolves away, reminded how bloody annoying it can be if you forgot your peaked cap!

A lot of assumptions being made. Other People's Money does tend to be the easiest money to spend.

How long is the ST waiting list?

How does this compare with the regular number of no shows (which has been over 2000)?

What is the cost of the stand expansion?

What are the financial implications for when we drop out of the Prem?

The simplest solution would be to increase prices until supply & demand balance. Before that, make STs half season & require a level of attendance by Christmas, otherwise ST not renewed.

These are not assumptions. Scott Duxbury has been quoted on numerous occasions that he wants to increase capacity to 30,000 and that there is a waiting list on season tickets.

The cost for expansion should be fairly affordable. It was built so it could be easily expanded. Obviously it will cost money, but it shouldn't be a prohibitive cost.

The no shows is not a major problem for making a decision on increasing stadium capacity. If we sell 30,000 tickets and only 20,000 turn up, it's more of a problem with atmosphere, not a financial hit. We will still be getting income from the 30,000 sold tickets.

As explained here by Scott Duxbury back in April. It makes financial sense to do it.

As regards to financial implications if we drop out of the Premier League, well that's just a negative barrier which would stop any progress. Clearly SD and GP do not think this way or else we'd still have a 3-sided ground.

Also, the Huddersfield game was recently ‘sold out’ but there were plenty of empty seats in the ground. I think the club need to correlate what it says online with what you can buy over the phone. I’ve lost count of the amount of times it has said there’s no seats available online only for a call to the ticket office to say otherwise.

But, empty seats won’t mean a jot to Gino as long as they are sold ie. non-attendees.

I think it's ridiculous that I can't get a season ticket (on waiting list) and yet I attend every single home match and pay full price, and there are a great number of people that don't attend with their season ticket and yet renew every year. Minimum attendance is definitely a good option to sort the waiting list
