I seem to recall singing "Channon is a moron" when this song was out and we played Southampton (quite possibly the 7-1 game). I think we thought we were at the cutting edge of terrace humour. (full stop).

The source of that article is a twitter comment from a French radio journalist, which according to google translate, backed up with my own elementary recollection of French, seems to indicate that PSG had enquired about Doucoure (past tense), so given him now signing this new contract I can't imagine there being anything more to this unless PSG decide to come back again later with a big offer. I doubt he's really at the required level for PSG either tbh.

Also, the French journalist who first mentioned it is called 'Nabil Djellit' - I'd have taken him as a more reliable source if he'd known how to spell 'Lledjit' correctly tbh.

I think for PSG to come in for him a few things would need to happen...

First they’d have to sell Rabiot which they’ve said they aren’t willing to do...
If they do sell Rabiot, it’s widely publicised that they’d be in for Kante...
If they didn’t get Kante, it wouldn’t entirely shock me if they came in for Doucouré.

That’s quite a few ducks in a line to make it possible. The slight worry being that the European window closes well after the English one and with unlimited funds such as theirs, we could be vulnerable after the window closes. A huge bid would get him, regardless of our ability to not immediately replace him IMO.

But the full interview on the website has reassured me that he’s planning on staying and is happy.

We ll be in the Championship next season so he can play Ligue 1 standard teams all season in 2019.

Interview with him about the new deal now on the club's YouTube page.

    Key messages:
    - He's "very happy" to stay here
    - Doucoure says the club is aiming to finish top 10
    - He's happy with the profile of player the club has been signing, e.g. Deulofeu (though just one high calibre signing isn't that much though really is it?!)
    - He has the ambition of getting in to the French national team, and if he and Watford do well he thinks it's possible (lol, good luck with that here)
    - He was out of action for a bit this summer from appendicitis, however he expects to be fit for Brighton (though he was probably really out with "waiting to see if PSG or Spurs make a £45million bid for me-acitis"
    - He keeps looking at something off the camera to his right (probably Gino's gun)
    - There was no need for the video to be to 7 minutes long

Now linked with literaĺly everybody as a 'must happen' January deal.

    Try it.

Google 'Doucoure' plus any team on the planet, and he's definitely going there for £35m or a straight swap for some crocked has-been.

Each report is backed up by a pundit who has kept their eye on Doucoure for 'quite a few years now'.

Someone is certainly pushing his name out there. As you say, he's being linked to some top clubs. I've only seen links to PSG, Liverpool & Spurs, but no doubt that will expand the closer we get to January.

Yup, no surprises, it's been clear Doucoure's wanted a move to a top club for a while now (most likely instructed his agent to get the message out there)- can't blame him, he'll need it to stand any chance of getting into the French national team for the next Euros/World Cup and any sort of worthwhile silverware.

Amazingly, I'd be more worried about losing Capoue at the moment.

If Chalobah can recover his fitness and form, which is a pretty big if at the moment.

As for Doucoure, I'm still not convinced that he's actually good enough to be a regular for a Champion's League club, and I'd be surprised if any would actually be willing to stump up the no doubt ~£40mil we'd demand for him. He's not been great since Silva left (Capoue has outshone him since then), and his passing in particular is too sloppy for the highest level. Most top managers prioritise keeping possession and Doucoure would thus infuriate them.

In case we did sell him, and there are still question marks over Chalobah, then we should bring in this guy as a pretty much ready-made replacement; 20 year-old currently the stand-out performer for mid-table Toulouse:

We will want +£40m so that knocks out tight arse Spurs. I hate to say it, but I think Man Utd could be an option particularly if Pogba leaves in January.

Overall I wouldn't be too concerned if he left for the right money, bearing in mind we have Chalobah and Cleverley, plus up and coming prospects in Wilmott and Quina. Chalobah needs regular game time to stay in Southgate's mind.

It's a couple of months before the next window and 6 months before the end of the season. That means it's Tapping Up through the Media season. Throw out some vague BS bait to a scribe struggling for eyeballs on their articles and see if you get any nibbles.

Him leaving at some point is unfortunately inevitable, but I'd be disappointed if it were midway through the season, considering his importance to us and how well we are currently doing.

We do have a potential ready made replacement in Chalobah, but there are still question marks over his fitness and his ability. He's clearly talented and full of potential, but the truth is we still can't be sure he is definitely going to become as good as we hope he might.

Keep hold of Doucoure until the end of season, keep this very good squad together and see what we can achieve, and then let him leave in the summer for mega bucks and when we have time to properly invest some of the money back into the squad.

In style of play, Chalobah is more of an alternative to Capoue, he doesn't play at all like Doucouré.

I'm also a bit perplexed as to how Chalobah is quite so highly rated by everyone. He was an excellent 17/18 year old on loan but since he's been back he's made five league starts for us at the beginning of last season, having never really shone in his other loans.

He'd started promisingly but was being outperformed by Doucouré. Given that he's since had a terrible injury since then, it's extremely optimistic to think he'll step up to replace Doucouré.

He did look a bit of a rolls royce of a midfielder though in those 5 games. I was impressed. Southgate has been interested every since. To be honest Southgate is an idiot. At which point I look in the mirror and realise I am also.

One of those games was the 6-0 home defeat against Man City, another was the ten man bore draw against Brighton - no-one really impressed in those. Which leaves the 3-3 against Liverpool, and the two 2-0 away wins at Bournemouth and Southampton. Don't get me wrong, he was good in those games but I didn't think he was exceptional, he wasn't as good as Doucouré as far as I remember.

I'm not convinced he quite merits the reputation he has amongst Watford fans.
